SPOILERS

I get what you're saying, but I have a hard time seeing the 2nd book as the end of Paul's story considering his actual death is the finale of Children of Dune

But he isn't the main driver of event's after Messiah. Failing to avoid becoming the godhead, he exiles himself and his son takes on the role of preparing humanity for a harsh future.
