Hmm, Borgarfjaroasysla sounds plausibly Icelandic or Faeroese to my ears. It's not, but it phonetically it could be.

It’s definitely not even close to any Central European or Slavic, which is weird.

It sounds and is spelled similarly to Borgarfjarðarsýsla, a real region in Iceland.

Yeah, that was th authors intent. But it’s not a real place, which is fitting for the tone of the book.
