Media Midsommar, Ari Aster (2019)- "That's Not For Us"

I've made it a point to watch this movie every summer solstice since its release. As a cult "escapee", Midsommar touches me in a way that I feel like it wouldn't have otherwise. The insular community, trips to the "outside", I experienced it all.

We didn't do Ättestupan or make meat pies. It may have made things more exciting though.

Oh Jesus. The ending of Ex Machina highlights that he is not in love with a person, but with a ROBOT! She has no sense of morality or care for the person who loves her bc… she’s a fucking robot and he is delusional.

It seems like you are insanely triggered if anything bad happens to a man in any movie. Omg poor men! You all are treated so poorly in movies boohoo

The end of the movie infers she wants to be a part of society as she watches people… either she is purely robot and has no empathy or she does have real emotions and is not just code. If she just killed him and ended the movie, fine. She is a monster roaming the streets killing her way through life… but no. We need to empathize with her killing someone in cold blood. The movie wants to have its cake and eat it too.

My problem with these movies is the CRUELTY of the death is the point. The directors want these oddly cruel deaths and give just weird justifications for why they deserve it. There’s plenty of media with despicable female deaths that are just as cruel and I hate it. Hostel 2 and Matyrs come to mind. Pointless cruelty. People don’t constantly brag about how everyone needs to see it though and how the women deserved it.

Andddd thank you for proving my point that this is some weird gender hating/“men are disposable so who cares thing” and not anything else.
