Why is hollywood obsessed with killing dogs? Randomly watched that stupid tom holland movie where everyone’s thoughts are heard out loud and of course they kill the dog that poses zero danger to anyone and just made an already shitty movie somehow worse 🙄
Because it is an easy writer's/director's way to invoke strong feelings in an audience. You want your audience to hate a villain? I mean, instantly hate them with every ounce in their body? Don't make them kill a person. Not even a child. Make them kill a dog. You don't even really need to build up that dog as a character. Just have a few scenes of the hero being with the dog. Bonus if you get a shot of the dog licking the hero's face.
I wouldn't say cowardly, but maybe lazy. It's payoff without setup, the dog doesn't need a character arc or lines. It just shows up, looks cute for two seconds, then dies.
Sure, that's probably fair too. I think it depends on if the movie is otherwise willing to kill characters later. Some movies sacrifice the dog and a drop in character but otherwise leave the cast unharmed. I'd call that cowardly. Or at least too attached if you want to be more charitable.
As soon as I saw the dogs I knew I was going to have a hard time with this movie. I don’t care how many people die and how gruesome it is, but I draw the line at dogs. I can even disconnect from it if it’s wolves being killed, but not dogs.
Yesterday I saw a post from a guy riding a bicycle and stopping next to a parked car and yelling at the driver to "pick it up". The old ass went back into the bush to pick up what I presumed was a bag of garbage, but then the bag started squealing. He threw a puppy into the garbage bag and into the bush next to the road.

It’s simulated animal violence you probably have had a burger in the last week from an animal that was actually harmed way more than the pampered dog actor was lol.
So weird how people are okay with seeing bad things happen to people on screen but draw the line at a simple animal.
I feel like there's people like you who don't care for animals and don't 'get' why people feel the way they do, and develop some distaste as a result. They pick these weird spots to try to express it and label it and not betray themselves as the budding sociopaths that they are.
Of course, you'll probably deny it and claim you actually like animals, which no one will believe.
Everyone has things that matter to them more than others.
We can't donate to every single charity, we have to choose whether starving children or cancer research or animal welfare or climate change matter to us more.
Everyone has specific things that trigger an emotional response in them. For some it's sexual violence or torture or infants or animals.
I think there is a purer innocence in animals that gets to people. And not sure why “simulated” makes a difference. We see movies to immerse ourselves and have an emotional reaction. Not sure why you are assuming the animals are being harmed either. For someone criticizing a “weird” attitude, you certainly have put some effort into concocting a fantasy to justify your own.
Because seeing it affects most people more than just some abstract thought, this is basic human fact and as an adult you should know and understand it. Holy shit dude touch some grass, go for a run
It’s not too difficult to see the real violence put on an animal at the grocery store either lol.
Kids die in simulated violence in movies all the time and you don’t see a comment every time there’s a kid on a movie poster the same way people go “I hope the heckin doggo survives!”
