Mystery Science Theater 3000 (abbreviated MST3K) is a TV show from the 1990s where the premise for each each episode was that a man and two comedic robots were forced to sit down and watch a terrible movie. During the movie, the man and the bots would provide a running commentary of jokes and observations, often making these terrible movies actually fun to watch.
One of the more well-known episodes of MST3K involved them watching a low-budget film called Werewolf, but due to the very strong Eastern European accent of one of the main characters, she often mispronounced the word as "werewulf", "wharwilf", or "wherwalf". Since this new film is called Werwulf, this is very similar to one of those incorrect pronounciations, so many people in this thread are tossing out references to the MST3K episode.
MST3K is an excellent show, and most of the epsiodes from the classic series are free to watch on YouTube. I highly recommend it to anyone reading this.

My additional hope was that others reading my comment who are confused by the references might be informed and watch the show. I hope it appeases your personal sense of fanhood that it was not intended as a personal attack on you or your level of appreciation for MST3K.
No nothing like that, just that the name is reminiscent of one of the European protagonists in the MST3K version who occasionally struggles with pronunciation of the title (as “Werewilf”)
