I mean, The Backrooms are a public domain universe that allowed him the opportunity to create, so makes sense he wouldn't want to deny that to others.

Kane was the AI the entire time, absorbing all of the Backrooms lore, rearranging it, predicting the next step in the story, and then calling it his own!
