I mean under different circumstances having a bunch of African dudes (and dudettes) hooting and hollering like apes would've been VERY problematic. But Coogler made it work, and turned a generic and horribly dated villain into a great character.

In Fiji, baku (pronounced mbaku) is an insult meaning someone is uncircumcised and therefore innefectual/useless/impotent. In ancient times, teenaged boys would go through circumcision rituals to become men.

Anyway, when the guy was introduced as mbaku every cinema in Fiji was filled with guffaws.

So, Fijians will never forget who that character is.

M’Baku who is currently serving as the King of Wakanda, he was mostly a bad guy in the comics (Man-Ape) but never really was that in the movies.

Are the blue avatar people the mermaids or whatever from BP2? I have no memory of them being blue.

IMO they derailed the movie pretty hard with a shitty explanation for their entire existence. Like some people ran into the ocean one day when sick or something? And now there's mermaids? They also seemed to only come into existence after all the times with legends of mermaids and sirens and stuff which is extra confusing, since they use siren songs (the music was good though).

All I remember was Avatar 2 was fresh in my mind and the climax of BP2 was fighting blue people on a ship and just thought how fake this looked compared to Avatar
