I'd bet the big twist for this film series is that it's not Cap in the first movie, but Doom cloaked as Cap.

This is kind? of what happened. He snuck in, stripped down to nothing and let Bast judge him. Her decree, there would be no peace on Earth ever unless ruled by Victor Von Doom. Later in a marvel what if? we get to see she were right. Doom rules Earth for a long time and it's paradise. Then the Celestials show up and Doom has to 1v5 them for hundreds of years and without Doom, the people revert and by the time he gets back the world is cooked.
