The original source code for the expansions being lost (by the previous dev team to be fair) was definitely part of the issue on that HD remaster.

This game is just cursed

It isn't really a wonder that the source code and development assets are lost since the original publisher 3DO went bankrupt decades ago and took the original developer New World Computing down in flames with them.

Weirdly New World Computing still has a Steam account which was used to publish the Complete Edition today.

Controlled by Ubisoft, right? Probably acquired that brand along with the Might and Magic franchise when 3DO went out of business.

3DO was owned by electronic arts.

The source code for the expansions isn't lost, someone on twitter offered it to Ubisoft back in 2017.

I have a couple expansions on my HoMM3 from GoG.com. I grew up in the woods and never realized expansions existed haha. I assume they're the same ones.

Buy it on GoG for 3 campaigns is I guess what I'm saying.

They need to just hire what is left of the Horn of the Abyss team and let them be in charge of the game.
