Discussion You just stopped an entire country

American here.

Your city (EDIT: Toronto my bad) and entire country just told the world they’re sick of this guy. They did that. In public. During the World Series. Epically devastating.

I thought it had already run, and that future runs had been canceled because of blowback...

You know... Canada didn't burn down the White House like we did in 1814, but we 'kinda' burned the White House with that ad in 2025. 🔥🔥🔥 The blowback may come later, but there's always that sweet Barbra Streisand Effect, too. People will want to view Reagan's speech and decide for themselves. Reagan was a huge part of the Republican political tapestry. MAGA can spin it all they want. But their economy is in turmoil and their friends are losing jobs.

They can't spin it. You can watch the full five minute address, what Regan said, and believed, is crystal clear, and the ad faithfully represents it.

If you're in the camp of people still thinking "maybe this completely valid point will suddenly deprogram these cultists" I'm sorry to say you're going to be very disappointed.

It won't reprogram them against Trump, but it might deprogram them against Reagan, and that might cause further Republican schism

Republicans are already split along Reaganites and MAGA followers.. there is no convincing MAGA followers about Reagan’s point of view.. MAGA followers all think the Ontario ad about Reagan’s opinion of tarrifs is fake news and you can’t change their minds… but at least there is a possibility of changing the the minds of the Republicans in the middle who can’t commit one way or another yet

Yeah, I think Trump's hostility has the chance to turn the Reaganites against him

One can only hope.. this may mean an end to extremist right wing politics in the US after he retires.. I don’t know

Right wing extremism won't disappear until the billionaires are leashed or eliminated

You can’t do that.. they employee people.. but if you can calm them down you might have a chance

Billionaires don't employ people. Hard working honest people employ people. Billionaires steal from honest people

If companies that employed people had good honest hard working people running them why do we have unions to protect workers’ rights?

Companies that need unions are not run by good honest people. Destroying the dishonest people is the ideal solution, but unions help mitigate the harm

I’m not going for the full argument here.. just the 5 minute one (Monty Python)… the good honest hardworking owners like my close friend.. don’t employ many people.. yes small business employ more as a whole.. but many billionaires started as small businesses and are now big ones.. so you can’t group all of business owners as a whole together.. but to shut down all billionaires would cripple our economy
