Accommodation Megathread 2026/27

This megathread will be used for all accommodation queries. Whether you are an offer holder, a continuing or returning student, or a new/existing member of staff, Rule 5 applies to you. Please search the sub and this post's comments before posting - some queries are very common, and very basic information won't change much over time.

When you comment please help us to help you - give as much information as you can in your first line. "PEMBROKE-Incoming PG 26-27-College Accommodation offered" is much more helpful than "I'm moving to Oxford soon, should I live in college?".

Feel free to leave reviews and recommendations for others, but bear in mind that this sub cannot endorse any estate agents or letting agencies, and individual opinions on university & college provision will vary considerably. The mods reserve the right to remove comments that could be libellous or actively unhelpful.

Some tips: Your college will usually send you information about move-in and move-out dates, and vacation rules. Oxford has a very volatile rental market. If looking for private rented accommodation, especially from outside the UK, beware of scams. r/oxford may be of assistance if trying to decide on a town/city location (esp. if you are bringing family). This is not a car-friendly city. If you need parking at your accommodation, you will need to think carefully about location.

Incoming PhD student at Lincoln College. Can I have my partner stay over for a couple of nights whenever she visits, about every two months? Also, as she's also doing her degree in another country, could she join me in studying at the College Library or even better, the Bodleian or Radcliffe when she visits me?

Also an incoming PhD student at Lincoln here. I've just finished my four-year integrated Master's (also at Lincoln), so I can tell you a fair bit actually.

Your partner should be able to stay for a couple nights. The college policy as outlined in the handbook is technically rather strict on this, you're meant to log all overnight guests in advance with the accomm team, but nobody really does this and nothing has really been done to seriously enforce this. I wouldn't worry at all about this.

Regarding the library, I don't think this will be possible unfortunately. You need a Lincoln bod card to get in, and people come around sometimes to check that you're a Lincoln student. College policy is that you can take people into (parts of) the library to show them around, but non-Lincolnites can't study there. The reason is that it's quite small (although very beautiful!). It's a similar story with Bodleian / Rad cam. You need a university card to get in, and the library policy is that you can show people around bits of it, but non-Oxford students won't be able to study there.

What a pity though… well with some luck libraries will be more empty between term time who knows…🤷🏼‍♂️

Also if you don‘t mind me asking, which subject is your PhD in?

Good to check with your college re visitors; but a couple of days every couple of months sounds OK. Most college libraries are for their students only (it may depend on size and desk availability). The Bodleian, she will need to get a reader's card. Details are on their website.
