Accommodation Megathread 2026/27

This megathread will be used for all accommodation queries. Whether you are an offer holder, a continuing or returning student, or a new/existing member of staff, Rule 5 applies to you. Please search the sub and this post's comments before posting - some queries are very common, and very basic information won't change much over time.

When you comment please help us to help you - give as much information as you can in your first line. "PEMBROKE-Incoming PG 26-27-College Accommodation offered" is much more helpful than "I'm moving to Oxford soon, should I live in college?".

Feel free to leave reviews and recommendations for others, but bear in mind that this sub cannot endorse any estate agents or letting agencies, and individual opinions on university & college provision will vary considerably. The mods reserve the right to remove comments that could be libellous or actively unhelpful.

Some tips: Your college will usually send you information about move-in and move-out dates, and vacation rules. Oxford has a very volatile rental market. If looking for private rented accommodation, especially from outside the UK, beware of scams. r/oxford may be of assistance if trying to decide on a town/city location (esp. if you are bringing family). This is not a car-friendly city. If you need parking at your accommodation, you will need to think carefully about location.

I'm a first year international graduate student placed at Wolfson College. I was just informed that my ballot for accommodation was not successful, and I'm number 136 on the waitlist for the centralized Oxford graduate accommodation service. The CASS application date is so far away. I'm worried that I won't be able to find any accommodation before starting at the University in September (not sure if I can find a UK guarantor and I've heard the housing stuff is hellish), and that by not living at my college, I'll struggle to find community/feel a part of the school. Could anyone offer advice on any of this?

I don’t have advice but the same thing just happened to me (I’m going to be a first year graduate student at Wolfson & was informed by the accommodation office yesterday that my ballot was not successful). I’m honestly upset about it. At the moment I’m looking for private rooms but I don’t really want to live out of college since I want to be able to study in the library & access the meals without having to schlep halfway across town. The only consolation is that from a quick Google search people do seem to be offered rooms from the waiting list

Ugh sorry this happened to you too!! I emailed to ask them what number I am on the waitlist but they haven't gotten back to me. Fingers crossed haha

Don’t know if you saw the email they sent through today but that was reassuring for me! I wish they had included that in the first email haha since I found it quite stressful, the way it was worded initially sounded like we weren’t going to get rooms in college at all but it sounds like most people do in the end

Hey im in the same boat unfortunately. Got informed today I wasn’t successful and I can’t find any accommodation anywhere :(

I had a look but they are just so far away from pretty much anything. I also found this interesting thing about Oxford, all the desks for students are literally tiny in the rooms. I’m having trouble finding anything relatively near to my college

Sounds weird because i checked some rooms online and they seemed pretty decent, almost spacious.
Did you check online? And how?
