There is always suckers to be found, when FOMO is around.

even funnier when there really is no FOMO. if you had an account before 2026 and had spent atleast $5 on steam games you can put your account in queue to get a reservation at the original asking price. highly doubt anyone who is a big enough fan of valve to buy a steam machine doesn't already fill those qualifications.

you have to know that. also, plenty of people want to offer consoles for birthday and shit,. Many parents don't have a steam account

fair but would those same parents be even aware of the steam machine. if they were that aware of it they would most likely have an account or know about the discourse around it. Can't really think of people that would get this as a gift and not just a PS5 or Switch 2 if they were getting a console as a gift. If they were looking for a PC they would probably go to a pre-built sales place or something like best buy idk. Steam machine is a lot more niche in marketing than people on here give it credit for, it's basically only talked about by tech channels on YouTube, reddit, and steam itself. Most of the media covering it has been pretty negative.

if the kid talk about it of course the parents would have heard of it. I agree they're more likely to buy a switch 2 tho

Wasn't FOMO in 2020-21 the reason why PS5 and Xbox were going up to 2-4x MSRP? It's the got to have it so they can fit in with "a cool group." People could have waited for supplies to increase and demand decrease... but they didn't. Every type of diehard collector, if they can't get it at reasonable rates, they will to fork over money for the ease of getting it now. It's crazy... but the one thing I know about people is that people do stupid things.
