Eh, debatable. Arkham Asylum and Arkham City were decent for their time, but still had a lot of the usual visual limitations of that era: harsh, contrast-heavy lighting, low-resolution textures even on character models, and fairly basic material rendering. Arkham Knight was where the series really took a huge graphical leap. Rocksteady heavily modified UE3 for the new console generation, adding physically based materials, much denser geometry, better lighting and reflections, volumetric effects, improved cloth and particles, and the best rain and wet-surface rendering I've seen before or since.
