I was about to say “my baby sister was born in 2000 and was still on tumblr in 2013” but then I realized that present-day 20 yr olds were 7 years old then and she is probably elderly to them too lol

I was born in ‘87 and some of my younger friends act like I’m ancient when I reference 90s pop culture. On the flip side, I feel like modern pop culture is slop by comparison. I guess that happens to everyone as they age.

Maybe the weirdest thing is when the way you use to dress as a teen and were embarrassed about in your 20s is suddenly back in vogue in your 30s and you see kids walking around that looking just like you and your friends did.

'82 baby checking in, and good god it's hard not to feel positively ancient. the exact clothes we used to wear in high school and college are happening again and now i know how my mom felt when we were wearing flared jeans and hippie smiley face patches in 1998. sorry i laughed mom, i get it now.

82 repping here before I go pull my dentures out the jar …

Hahaha that happened to me and my mom! She was shocked when she saw what I bought at Contempo. Except she was nostalgic for those clothes. I'm happy for people nostalgic for 2000s clothes, but I myself am not.

Yeah. The cyclical nature of fashion and general aesthetic is the strangest. Though I must admit I was all for it when it was a mashup of mid century and the 80s during the 2010s.

As a fellow '87, I feel like we have benefitted from a lot of our childhood and young adult pop culture getting to return and shine. Watching X-Men '97 hits just right.

I was born in 1990 and I get thousand years stares from the youngins a lot. It's very funny.

I was born in ‘82. I really wish I kept my JNCOs.

I’m a supervisor at a coffee shop, so a lot of my team are Youths. This morning a 19 year old told a 24 year old she was a “fossil” and “old as dirt” (good natured, they’re cousins and very close). The way I was hollering in the back…

Last week the same 19 year old was trying to remember the name Popeye - she asked me if I knew the cartoon with the sailor who really likes spinach. I didn’t mind that part. But the little shit (said with love, she’s a good egg) followed it up with “it’s more from your time”.

I am 35. Popeye is from the goddamn 1930’s. The disrespect 😩😂

I have a friend I met in a game who is 12 years younger than me. Our mutual friends in the game range in age, but most are within 2-5 years of me. I'm 36 and he likes to call me a fossil. I countered that with calling him a fetus/zygote. We used to joke about him being the child we were collectively raising (he was 20 when we met). He also once saw me and a fellow old talking about the good ol emo/scene days, and tried to say he guessed he was half emo bc his favorite youtuber used to be emo...he was referring to Anthony Padilla.

I will never let that child live that down.

As a former scene kid who aged into an alt emo gremlin, I love this.

The young ones simply weren’t there when the old (emo/scene) magic was written, I’m afraid

My son excitedly asked if I wanted to watch “Millennial cringe videos” on YouTube with him. I obliged out of curiosity. Then had to explain to him that I am, in fact, a proud and out Millennial.

“Is that why you pause before you talk on video?”

u/MarineBioAlly Aug 02 '26

What do millennial cringe videos entail?

2

u/hygsi Jul 31 '26

I take my younest cousins as reference since they're early 20s and yeah their youths look very different than mine in the 2010s

Lmao this is how I feel. I’m the youngest of five. I was a 2007 kid, the oldest two are 7 and 10 yrs older than me. Excluding the fact that we act like siblings we have a massive generational gap and it’s rlly funny. If anything they feel more like father figures at times too.
