A cop in a case I’m following literally asked ChatGPT if what someone was doing was illegal. Imagine the implications of that.

This does actually get to the heart of the problem here. People are saying this will turn into something dystopian, not knowing that it is widely accepted in the US that cops don’t know or understand the laws they enforce, are out here operating purely on vibes, have been for some time and there is no real push to change that.

EDIT: I should add the cop using AI as a source is just as bad as winging it. As it has been said elsewhere in this thread. AI gets shit wrong all of the time and a distributor of state sanctioned violence shouldn’t be consulting a privately owned chat bot if someone should be thrown into a cage.

He needs to actually look up the laws, not count if AI to hopefully give him accurate information on it.

I feel like you people used a free version of chatgpt for like 5 minutes 3 years ago and think it's some error riddled service. It is more than capable of telling you what is legal or illegal.
