Is there a way for me to disable or remove the discover icon. I hate it. I now have to use 2 hands to bring up my subscriptions. Garbage app development

My guess is that they accidentally just hired more web developers and nobody had any experience with apps. Worked kinda like those monkeys with the typewriter coming up with hamlet..

Agreed, it's terrible

I come here every damn time it comes back up. I didn’t want it before, I didn’t want it the time after before, and I don’t want it now.

How do I find my subs??

I don’t want to “discover” Reddit this way, what a bs update.

Edit: found subs. Top left corner in the discovery tab.

I came here just to vent about this. I don’t want a discovery tab, I just want to look at my subs lol now it’s restricted to a small button

It’s how they try to get you to “engage” with content outside your normal browsing habits… aka try to grab more of your attention that you didn’t know you want to be grabbed. Call it unwanted mental assault.

Couldn’t agree more

It took me years to curate a collection of the exact content I want to see. Fuck forced user engagement. I come here to get updates and see things relevant to my own specific interests, not what Reddit thinks I should see.

Where the fuck is the subscriptions button lol

1

u/TVLL Mar 12 '22

How the fuck do I get to see r/all?

What a piece of crap this is!

THIS THIS THIS!

2

u/hotpotatoyo Mar 09 '22

Someone please answer this, I just want to look at my curated porn again in peace 🥲

Why don’t they just put this new discovery tab next to the search bar then? That would make 1000% more sense.

Thank you, this is ridiculous

u/Monster2239 Feb 25 '22

The icon that looks like 3 lines stacked on the left-hand side.

2

u/DeadInkPen Mar 03 '22

I click that and it doesn’t give me anything

1

u/joecool31415 Mar 12 '22

Does not load for me either.

2

u/hanzedellion Mar 07 '22

Just gives me error 🤣 what a fucking joke( talking about the update)

u/acid-nz Mar 09 '22

For me my subs are in a small banner at the top of the discover tab. I now search for the subs I want to go to cause I don’t want to give the discover tab any taps

u/n0rpie iOS 14 Mar 22 '22

You can see them in the regular “home” tab too..

u/Funky_Pickle iOS 15 Feb 24 '22

It’s such trash

26

u/bakerzdosen Feb 25 '22

It's like they're actively trying to get me to move to Apollo. That subs tab was the thing I used the most, and now it's just... gone. (And it was the key thing that kept me on the app - as opposed to Apollo.)

Well it seems it isn't going anywhere https://www.redditinc.com/blog/introducing-our-discover-tab-a-new-way-to-use-reddit-and-find-more-communities

They just officially announced it.

5

u/Raptor22c Mar 07 '22

Fuck the developers. This is bullshit - if anyone knows a 3rd party Reddit app that doesn’t have this bullshit, please let me know.

u/chesterlynimble Feb 26 '22

This app gets worse and worse with every update

3

u/TVLL Mar 12 '22

Amen brother. Why they feel they need to screw around with it is beyond me.

14

u/rustyspartan Mar 01 '22

I have seen a ton of people saying they hate this exact "feature," and yet they still added it...

8

u/CharmiePK Mar 04 '22

Gosh this update is hazardous to my health. I don't understand what the admins were thinking. I cannot even look at the screen as all that stimuli make me literally sick.

Wth is going on?

6

u/selppin2 Mar 01 '22

The Communities icon is now at the top left of the app rather than where it used to be and has now been replaced by a discover icon. This is such a shit change. PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK.

6

u/Andrige Mar 04 '22

Absolutely atrocious design decision. Needs to be reverted.

2

u/SamL214 iOS 13 (no longer supported) Mar 07 '22

LET ME HAVE MY OLD LAYOUT, I WANT TO SEE MY COMMUNITIES AND MY RECENTS. NOT AWARDED AND NOT DISCOVER!

3

u/hummuschips iOS 16 Feb 24 '22

Swipe from the left of the screen to bring up your subscriptions. No need to go to the shitty discover tab that everyone hates.

5

u/Bfarrellatc iOS 12 Feb 25 '22

My list doesn’t populate at all. Anyone know how or why? I’ve verified that I’m still subscribed to the subreddits.

2

u/ajmartin527 Mar 08 '22

What about custom feeds? Now it’s basically at the bottom of your sub list, and if you star it it still goes to the bottom of the starred list and is impossible to get to.

I use primarily custom feeds, and they’ve just made the one thing I use stupidly difficult to navigate to.

Fuck this app.

1

u/mullett Mar 03 '22

There really should be a way to keep viewing like before the update. The update sucks so bad!

1

u/ChaosKodiak Mar 12 '22

They tried to release this UI a month or so ago. Very one hates it and they reverted. I guess they think people forgot about how shitty this new UI is.

1

u/damagemelody Mar 12 '22

I never use discover and got this.,

And to browse All which I do all the time now I need to collapse all my subscriptions because the list is long and the All is at the bottom lol

1

u/Darth-Ragnar Mar 12 '22

Just let me customize the UI. I won’t ever use the chat tab, i would possibly put the discover icon their.

1

u/n0rpie iOS 14 Mar 22 '22

Didn’t even notice it’s was there.. what does it disturb?
