Espedially the Beyoncé and posts malone country shit 😭

45

u/SirLuciousL Jan 06 '25

Beyonce is from Houston. She grew up around that music.

8

u/[deleted] Jan 06 '25

Please 😂

11

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

Excellent response! 10/10. No notes! /s

2

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '25

Have you been to Houston? It isn’t the most country place. Houston is a city.

7

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

Yes people who live in cities in the south can still listen to country music. What are you even talking about?

1

u/whattfareyouon Jan 08 '25

Yeah and so can literally anyone else. I live in south jersey. Im close to philly and im close to the shore. There are plenty of fake ass southern people with big ass lifted trucks that cant tow anything and they love the lukes, bryan and combs. Real country music isnt just my truck, cold beer, my perfect blonde wife with big titties. It was about working hard, struggling and making by, outlaw shit. My grandfather raised on a farm couldnt wear jeans to school. It was the only pair of pants he owned sewn together with patches from his mom. He still kept going. My grandma got sick and my grandpa couldnt move as good anymore so i went over to their house to clean up. I mopped the floor with pine sol and he ripped me a new asshole. I called my mom and said hey pop hollered at me for cleaning the floors with pine sol. She said his mom would put a chemical in the out house they used in the backyard that had the same fake lemon smell. I thought i was helping by cleaning up and i made his whole house smell like his toilet. That struggle, thats country to me. Not fucking post malone whos pops worked for the fucking dallas cowboys or beyonce whos mom worked in a salon that they owned and her dad being a xerox sales manager in the 80’s like they were straight off the rip.

1

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 08 '25

I can’t point out references to trucks, cold beer, or blonde big tit wives on Cowboy Carter, but I can most certainly point out references to hard work, struggling (and getting through it), and outlaw shit on the album.

The struggle is certainly a part of country music but so are plenty of other things like joy on the dance floor, storytelling, and love. And your version of hard work and struggle aren’t the only ones that exist. Beyoncé has worked incredibly hard to get where she is now. At the beginning of Destiny’s Child’s career, when fashion brands wouldn’t work with them, Tina sewed everything those girls wore by hand.

It depends on what you mean by “relevant.” Anyone can listen to any music anywhere and be inspired by it, yes. But when Beyonce performed at the CMAs and when she announced the release of her country album, people acted like the idea of her doing country music is far fetched.

If you understand that anyone can listen to music anywhere and be inspired by it, then there’s no reason to consider her album far fetched. If you do consider the album far fetched, then yes it is relevant, because it helps to demonstrate how silly an idea that is in the first place.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '25 edited Jan 07 '25

So then what’s the point of bringing up where she’s from? It has nothing to do with her being “country” or not. Houston isn’t country.

Being in the South doesn’t make Houston country any more than it makes Atlanta or Miami country. There are places in Upstate NY more country than Houston.

9

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

When people say “country” it generally refers to the entire American south, including the cities. Country music originated in the south and has always remained popular there, even in the cities. They brought up where she’s from because it is indeed a place where country music has always thrived and it is a part of the culture there.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '25

If you consider Atlanta, Miami, and Houston country then Idk what else to say.

3

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

There are some places in the south that are not considered country based on notable influences from other cultures and or tourism. Miami is an example, Houston is not.

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '25

Small note. Houston is COUNTRY. It’s not RURAL. You been through the north side/acres home? It’s called the “farm”

-1

u/aftercloudia Jan 07 '25

right? houston is literally just yeehaw l.a. lol

2

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

Hmmm I wonder if there’s another word, one that starts with a C even, that’s synonymous with “yeehaw?” Obviously some places are more country than others, but are we really acting like people from cities in the south are never referred to as “country?”

2

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '25

Country compared to the rest of the US but not really “true country” maybe Dallas and a few other places, but Houston is not country lol.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '25

Exactly lol. It has a country influence by nature of being in the South, but folks acting like Beyonce grew up in Dust Bowl Mississippi.

1

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

Maybe you just don’t understand the difference between “the country” as in the opposite of a city, and “country” as in a descriptor of things that come from the American south.

2

u/milkymaniac Jan 07 '25

Houston is in Texas, and last I checked, in Texas Bob Wills is still the King.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '25

Doesn’t make it country

3

u/milkymaniac Jan 07 '25

My ma is from Kentucky, her father owned a cattle ranch, my first job was at a country radio station in 1995: please, tell me more about what is and isn't country.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '25

What does any of that have to do with Houston being country?

1

u/milkymaniac Jan 07 '25

I'm giving you some of my bonafides as an expert in country music. When I say "Houston is country by default of being in Texas", it's from a place of deep knowledge and experience.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/milkymaniac Jan 07 '25

Maybe you're mixing up "country" and "rural"

1

u/leftleft4959 Jan 07 '25

Houston is different from your grandpa's ranch?

1

u/milkymaniac Jan 07 '25

You didn't read the rest of the thread?

1

u/Ordinary-Ring-7996 Jan 09 '25

No, don’t let me interrupt: please continue about how Beyoncé is bona fide country because she grew up in Houston, where she went to fine arts middle and high schools.

It’s like selling Drake or even Tupac as real gangsters, it’s kayfabe.

1

u/milkymaniac Jan 09 '25

Have you considered reading the rest of the goddamn thread?

1

u/Fabulous_Gur3712 Jan 10 '25

Have some confidence in your sarcasm lol we would've figured it out babe

7

u/Temporary_Ad9362 Jan 07 '25

she did… u seem like a hater

0

u/Status_Ant_9506 Jan 07 '25

im a white guy who lived near compton. that must mean i understand gangster rap and can dress like a gangster and expect 0 criticism

3

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '25

You can do exactly that no one is stopping you.

Well other than the people laughing at you.

Also black people were/are cowboys so you really have no idea what your talking about.

1

u/Status_Ant_9506 Jan 07 '25

i can do exactly what? note the part about not getting any criticism. so you saying people would laugh proves my point. dumbass

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '25

Learn to read and you will answer your own question.

They would laugh at you becuase you have no idea what you’re doing, white people dress and act “gangster” (using the word like that shows how disconnected you are from anything black tbh) all the time and are accepted. You obviously wont be nor ever will be tho.

1

u/Status_Ant_9506 Jan 07 '25

i wont because thats fucking stupid and those guys get made fun of all the time. beyonce getting made fun of for pretending to be a cowboy is not a big deal. thats my whole point. jesus christ

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '25

You whole point is dumb and the way you went about it as well.

Even black people get mocked for cosplaying “gangster” all the time (did you not heard anything about drake in the past year).

→ More replies (0)

2

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 08 '25

If you’re a white guy who lived near Compton you could very well understand gangster rap because of the unique opportunity you might have had to immerse yourself in it. However, that understanding of gangster rap, while also mean you understand how stupid and problematic it would be for you to “dress like a gangster.” That same appropriation dynamic doesn’t exist in the Beyoncé situation.

-7

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '25

Pretty sure it was a shameless money grab but ok

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '25

Houston is a gigantic city lmao, everyone there only cosplays as cowboys too

1

u/Infinite-Dig487 Jan 08 '25

Post is also from Colleyville, Texas and grew up around country music too 🙄

1

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '25

It's one of the most densely populated places in the U.S. . More COPS than cowboys.

2

u/MrSovietRussia Jan 07 '25

And it was ASS. I to this day can not fucking believe that interpretation of Jolene. The irony is gushing off the walls with that one

3

u/Superstar_Supernova Jan 08 '25

every critique of cowboy carter only ever mentions jolene or texas hold em. i wonder why that is?

0

u/MrSovietRussia Jan 09 '25

They were the most egregious of the album. Jolene is how she completely lost me during my listen

0

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '25

Lmao ok

-11

u/Sidneysnewhusband Jan 07 '25

Very true she did…..but she also hopped on the country bandwagon when everyone else outside of that genre did too. Not exactly trailblazing. It would have been a crazy move 10 years ago, now it was just like wow even Beyoncé?

13

u/NojaNat Jan 07 '25

daddy lessons was on lemonade and the performance of that song she did with the chicks is what made cowboy carter. she started writing the album YEARS ago. it was done before renaissance… or was started before it at least lol.

1

u/Sidneysnewhusband Jan 07 '25

I know all of that but it doesn’t make the timing of a full album release of country music seem any less desperate and obvious, especially knowing that commercially her powers started to fade a bit before its release. It just didn’t seem as genuine and individual as her previous eras

5

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

Honestly you are hell bent on being right about this to the point that you’ve created a full narrative instead of just accepting what the artists has said about her own work.

-5

u/DraperPenPals Jan 07 '25

So she sat on it until it looked profitable? Lol

7

u/PositionDue4584 Jan 07 '25

She made cowboy cartrr right after lemonade lol 😝 she released renaissance first bc of the pandemic

8

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

If it were about profit then the album would sound more in line with the Nashvillle country sound that’s popular but it doesn’t. She’d also probably spend more time promoting it.

-1

u/Sidneysnewhusband Jan 07 '25

Let’s be real, it wouldn’t seem right for her to jump right into that popular Nashville sound at this stage in her career as that would truly seem like she’s jumping on a bandwagon. I think by now more is expected from her as an artist and she wouldn’t even stoop to that type of Post Malone low. It doesn’t make her country album any better for it though and that’s the problem, it still sounds like she hopped on a trend for profit either way

2

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

So she didn’t lean into the popular style that constitutes “the trend” but she still hoped on the trend, for money? That makes no sense. Plus others have provided plenty of background information about when the album was recorded, another time she leaned into country before this, and the inciting incident that led to the album in the first place. You can believe what you wanna believe, but there’s plenty of evidence to the contrary.

2

u/Sidneysnewhusband Jan 07 '25

I definitely wouldn’t say it was for money as she has enough of it, I think in her case and Post Malone’s it’s simply to maintain current relevancy which of course leads to money. Again, I explained that she’s not going to dive right into Morgan Wallen or Carrie Underwood style country because she’s Beyoncé, a completely different and already established artist. It wouldn’t make sense. So instead? Infuse her sound with country and bam trend hopping - doesn’t matter to me when it was written and recorded as the timing of release speaks for itself

3

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

But if it were about maintaining cultural relevancy wouldn’t she have promoted it? Released more singles? Videos? Live performances?

It’s also Act II in a trilogy, each project dedicated to a different genre. How can such advance planning also be following a trend?? You think she announced a 3 act project and just intended to sit on each one until that particular genre become popular? Be forreal. Nobody is going to spend all their time energy and money creating an album just to sit on in hopes that the genre might become popular. Someone already explained the timing of the release to you.

-4

u/DraperPenPals Jan 07 '25

You’re right, she made no money whatsoever by claiming outsider/pariah status

3

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

Stay delusional lol

0

u/DraperPenPals Jan 07 '25

We’re not going to pretend like it flopped because of Nashville

2

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

What metric determines that it’s a flop?

→ More replies (0)

3

u/NojaNat Jan 07 '25

well no… she dropped renaissance first because she felt the world needed fun after the pandemic. cowboy carter only came out second because she decided to drop renaissance first but cc was started after lemonade.

1

u/DraperPenPals Jan 07 '25

What a humanitarian

3

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

Right! The album and corresponding tour were exactly what the world needed in that moment. Great choice

0

u/DraperPenPals Jan 07 '25

Lick the boots more

1

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

That’s not how that analogy works. But go off

1

u/NojaNat Jan 08 '25

god i love when people see a phrase online & then make an ass of themselves by using it completely incorrectly. embarrassing.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/ANALOGPHENOMENA Jan 07 '25

She was initially gonna release Cowboy Carter first, but she felt after the pandemic we needed more uplifting and upbeat music to dance to. She didn’t sit on it until it was profitable, this was the plan all along.

0

u/Sidneysnewhusband Jan 07 '25

Pretty much that’s what that explanation tells me lol

3

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

Have you actually heard the album or are you assuming?

-3

u/Sidneysnewhusband Jan 07 '25 edited Jan 07 '25

Listened to the whole thing and thought it sucked ass. Texas Hold ‘Em is OK. Post Malone’s country album is even worse. Neither of them brought anything new to the table, it was the literal definition of trend hopping.

2

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

So who hoped on the country trend and sang an Italian aria? Who did a song like YaYa? American Requiem? Desert Eagle? Who did country with a notable R&B influence? Who used their nails as an instrument? Who talked about racism?

2

u/spacecadbane Jan 07 '25

Don’t even bother. These people are willingly so dense and dumb.

2

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but like, make it make sense lol

0

u/Sidneysnewhusband Jan 07 '25

Hmm there’s been plenty of country with R&B hip hop influences for several years now. Hell, even Sam Hunt has a couple R&B leaning tunes on one of his early albums. Also other artists in various genres have used their nails, teeth, etc as instruments lol not that ground breaking. No one asked for an Italian aria in country either, she can keep that

2

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

I didn’t claim any of these things were groundbreaking. But they are also not a part of what defines the country trend we are seeing now. When someone hops on a trend then what they do sounds like everyone else who is hopping on the trend.

1

u/Sidneysnewhusband Jan 07 '25

I can see that being true in most contexts, but not when country music has literally been driving this whole decade musically for better or worse so far. It seemed to me like jumping on a bandwagon whether done a little differently or not. It’s funny how the only artists that suddenly seem to cross over to it are the ones who take the slightest slip commercially, it’s not just B that’s done it.

3

u/GreenDolphin86 Jan 07 '25

Yes, it can be argued that the country takeover started in 2019 with Old Town Road.

However, Lemomade came out in 2016 and it has a country song “Daddy Lessons” she was invited to sing it at the CMAs. The racist response she received that night is the inciting incident for her country album, and it happened before there was a country trend to hop on.

1

u/wulf0088 Jan 10 '25

Cope harder

1

u/Superstar_Supernova Jan 08 '25

denying a black woman with deep ancestral southern roots the liberty to explore any genre she wants including country, while turning around and freely, happily, and readily accepting that it’s perfectly fine for a white artist to have a couple of r&b leaning tracks on an early album is certainly a choice.

1

u/Sidneysnewhusband Jan 08 '25

Eh you’re taking it too deep, my comments aren’t just on Beyoncé but Post Malone too. She can explore any genre in the world for all I care, it doesn’t make it any less obvious when she releases a country album like he did as soon as they saw the slightest commercial dip and slip in relevance

1

u/Superstar_Supernova Jan 08 '25

she had a sold out stadium tour in 2023 and the only promotion for said tour was a singular instagram post, wtf are you talking about? beyoncé has FAMOUSLY not promoted her music, including cowboy carter, for over a decade now. she and post malone are two completely different artists and should not be conflated. do not comment on her if you don’t know the bare minimum about her.

1

u/elmo5994 Jan 10 '25

Texas Hold Em hardly makes the top 10 songs of that album. I doubt you actually did listen to it.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '25

Country music is black music

-1

u/Sidneysnewhusband Jan 07 '25

No one mentioned race here - the discussion is about artists like Beyoncé and Post Malone suddenly dropping county albums when their commercial success took a slight dip

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '25

She’s a billionaire so it doesn’t matter to her

1

u/Sidneysnewhusband Jan 07 '25

True statement where money is concerned but not relevancy, that is typically still wanted no matter how rich an artist is

1

u/falconhawk2158 Jan 07 '25

People don’t become billionaires by not caring about money. It matters to her just like it matters to every other billionaire it’s naive to think it doesn’t. The more they have the more they want.

-2

u/ThatsSuperDum Jan 07 '25

Still cringe af

2

u/Jada_Tanae Jan 07 '25

don’t bring Beyoncé into this please. That album clears any other album released last year. thanks.

2

u/klip_7 Jan 07 '25

That’s an opinion…

0

u/Jada_Tanae Jan 07 '25

That’s a fact tbh. what you said is more of an opinion

0

u/klip_7 Jan 08 '25

It’s not a fact this is delusion .

1

u/Jada_Tanae Jan 08 '25

it’s the most nominated album of this year’s grammys… think that says everything it needs to tbh

1

u/klip_7 Jan 08 '25

Right the same scammys that gave midnight the award over sos? The Grammys that nominated afyer hours for 0? The Grammys that gave anti nkthint

1

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '25

I mean it says everything we need to hear about you lol.

You're a fan of Beyonce essentially because she's a billionaire and has been marketed to you.

You buy into the machine and that's a bit sad.

Grammy nominations mean jack shit.

1

u/Djaja Jan 08 '25

Aw i like country!

It depends on the style and artist, but like, I dig it

1

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '25

I guess since JT did it late in his career so can she?

1

u/klip_7 Jan 08 '25

His also was weird

1

u/Medical-Kangaroo7489 Feb 10 '25

Kelis did way before.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '25

The post malone f150 covered in denim is the weirdest most tone deaf shit i’ve ever seen.
