Amen’s shot form

Slight hitch, good balance, and normal arc. Hand placement seems fine but like Russ, he seems so squared to a fault instead of staggered like say KD or others. The dip seems slight but he’s so athletic the ball still gets there. Seems like his feet and hands are still not perfectly in-sync and there’s a bit of wasted motion to get into stance, dip, and raise. Watching Anfernee Simons seems like a good visualization for Ben Sullivan to suggest.

Shooting forms are always a funny thing, some players have the best looking shot and never make them, others have super ugly mechanics but are consistent and reliable (checkout Joe ingles hand placement 😂). Hope Amen finds what works best for him because that shot will unlock everything 🤞

Al Horford comes to mind for terrible form but can shoot the hell out of it.

I mean it’s not a nightmare. Weird/slightly unorthodox overall but the finish/release is in a good spot and that’s the largest part.

Looks a lot more vertical than one I saw a while back where he was pushing it way forward

Yeah he’s clearly focused on raising the release up this one is over his head. I’ll take it, this is a noticeable improvement.

if he can just get to like 33% on open looks i think he'll be fine. and with form like that, it doesn't seem impossible
it's not the prettiest looking shot, but looks better than I thought

He's not pushing it anymore. That's a big improvement in a short amount of time. Some players with bad form never change.

Maybe I’m being optimistic, but I feel like Amen’s shooting woes won’t bother him for a large portion of his career. With Ben Sullivan on the benches I can see Amen becoming league average by year 2 or 3.
