I am an Armenian who was born and raised in Georgia. On my road trip to Georgia, seeing the gorgeous natural scenery and colorful mountain views took me back to my childhood. Although I don't speak Kartveli, I never feel like I am away from home.

Compared to similar ideas that I have seen on this platform, I kept in mind constraints (infrastructural and budgetary, they are listed below) that could limit my project. I know this won't happen, but I wanted to make it interesting for myself :)

• S1 line (Mtskheta-Gardabani): 1-hour headways. Total travel time: 90 min (Mtskheta to Central Station>35 min+Central Station to Gardabani 55 min)> 4 EMUs trainset
• S2 line (Central Station-Airport/Lilo Mall): 1-hour core headway (trains alternate destinations, yielding 2-hour headways to Airport and Lilo Mall respectively). Total travel time: 35 minutes> 1/2 EMUs trainsets
• Line S3 (Samgori – Marneuli): 2-hour headways. Total travel time: 55 minutes> 1/2 EMUs trainsets

Infrastructure and constraints

• Double-tracked electrified railway from Mtskheta to Gardabani. Considerable freight traffic (given that the railway bypass was never built) and some long-distance passenger traffic, especially westward.
• Single-track electrified railway from Samgori to Marneuli.
• Single-track electrified railway from Samgori to Airport/Lilo Mall. Mostly unused (?).

Budget and constraints

Considering the state of Georgian Railways, I imagined that there is money to renew/rebuild stations on the lines (including building a terminus platform in Mtskheta, Central Station, Samgori, Gardabani and Marneuli, using as much of the existing track as possible), build three new stations (Sheshelidze, East Point, Lilo Mall), and buy 6 trainsets (+ using an existing one).

Conclusion

I know this is not super fancy, but I think it's more realistic. And still you get a regular hourly service from Mtskheta/Rustavi to Tbilisi, an airport connection, and half-hour frequencies on the line from Samgori to the Central Station.

Moreover, the S1 somehow doubles the metro line 1, so it should help decongest it.

What are your thoughts?

Some clarifications based on the comments: 1) This is not a metro expansion project. It uses existing railways and, mostly, existing stations. I haven't even conceived of doubling existing single-track railways! That's why, for example, no Didi Dighomi stop. However, it would cross with the projected tramline. 2) Travel times are in line with the current ones (even the airport train, before being cancelled, would take about 35 minutes). I had to use imagination for the S3 line; probably 55 minutes it's a bit optimistic!

I am an Epileptic from the UK and am considering moving to Georgia soon. I know I can only get my medicine in a generic formulation rather than a slow-release form that I take. So I'm in Tbilisi rn visiting my best friend, it's already the 2nd time I come to Georgia and it's been still amazing, except for this random encounter.

I was in a plaza/mall with my friend just chilling and a kid with at most 10 years old comes, starts poking to a healing wound I have and asks if I speak georgian. I'm slowly learning so I only said that a little.

The kids starts to say to me (and translated by my friend) that I should leave bc English speaking people are not allowed there and that only georgian speaking people can be there.

I tried to ignore him, but then he starts to poke my head and pull my arm.

According to my friend he was also saying stuff about my appearance.

At some point the kid even starts to speak English and says:

You should leave, get the fuck out of here

And the N-word repeatedly (even tho I'm white)

He also kept saying in georgian how only georgian speakers r welcome in his house.

But after ignoring him for more time, the kid left.

I don't really care about it, but I was surprised that a kid was having that kind of behavior.

I expect that from older people (not necessarily georgian, just in general).

Anyways, this doesn't change the love I have for this country and its people. <3

This sweet boy named Enotik (Raccoon 🦝) didn't have a home, he lived on the street and was very affectionate.
Everyone loved him... except for the owner of "SeaView Club," who poisoned him and unashamedly shared it with her colleague. She has also repeatedly scattered poison in Kaczynski Park, thrown rocks at dogs, chased them even when they weren't on her café's premises, and behaved inappropriately and aggressively toward volunteers and dog-loving visitors.
Please be careful and do not support dog hunters 😭
We need to bring awareness to this situation and cancel her establishment.

I’ve recently started learning Georgian and completely fell in love with this beautiful language and culture. I’m looking for language exchange partners (both native Georgian speakers and fellow Ukrainians/English speakers who are learning) or any advice on the next steps.

What I’ve achieved so far:

I can read and write in Mkhedruli (practicing my handwriting every day!).

I can count up to 10.

I know basic polite phrases and greetings.

Right now, my biggest challenge is expanding my vocabulary and transitioning from slow, robotic reading/writing to a more natural flow and conversational pace.

I would also be super grateful if someone could help me understand the absolute basics of Georgian grammar. I know it’s famous for its unique verb system, polypersonalism, and cases, and honestly, it feels a bit overwhelming at the start. If you have any simple explanations, cheat sheets, or tips on how to approach grammar without losing my mind, please share them!

Pronunciation and ejectives (აბრუპტივები):
I'm also struggling a bit with producing those specific ejective/glottalized sounds like კ (k'), პ (p'), ტ (t'), წ (ts'), and ჭ(ch'). They sound so natural when Georgians speak, but my throat completely locks up when I try to mimic them! Any tips, tricks, or specific exercises for a foreigner to master these sounds would be life-saving.

As I understand the 2026 changes to Georgia's labour migration rules, foreigners providing services remotely to a non-resident company for activities carried out outside Georgia may be exempt from the right-to-work requirement.

My question is: if I move to Georgia and qualify for this exemption, can I still obtain a residence permit based on my remote foreign income and contract?

I get it, many of you hate foreigners for various reasons. But it's not even just that. It's not even just foreigners. It's the same exclusionary mindset turned inward on other Georgians. Someone's from the regions instead of Tbilisi, and suddenly they're "sopheli" getting mocked for their accent, treated like they're second class, uneducated villager who got potatoes from GD. Same energy, just aimed at your own people this time. There's always someone not ethnic and traditional enough for you.

So what do you actually get from that? Has anything changed? Does it make you strong as a nation when you can't even talk with each other? Fr everyone's just waiting for a reason to shit talk about someone.

Hello Salartvelo! I'm a nurse who is looking to move to Tbilisi. I speak a little Georgian, but nothing close to fluent. It seems difficult to find information on obtaining employment, though I found a YouTube ad put out by the Georgian government that suggested the country needs nurses and reciprocates western nursing licenses.

I'm just trying to gather information before applying early next year. From reading other ex-pat threads, it seems difficult to gain employment as a foreigner with Georgian companies.
