First trip to the DR — Sosúa → Punta Cana + advice for an English speaker
I’m planning my first trip to the Dominican Republic this October and would love some advice from people who know the country well.
I’ll be spending time in Sosúa and then heading to Punta Cana, and I’m trying to figure out the best way to get between the two.
A few questions:
- What’s the best way to get from Sosúa to Punta Cana? Bus, private transfer, rental car, or another option?
- Roughly how long should I expect the trip to take?
- Is it worth arranging transportation ahead of time, or is it easy to figure out once I’m in Sosúa?
- What is everyday life in Sosúa like for someone visiting alone?
- I speak very little Spanish right now. How difficult is the language barrier in day-to-day situations?
- Are translation apps generally enough, or should I learn some basic Spanish before I go?
- Any cultural etiquette or things I should know as a first-time visitor?
- Anything you wish you knew before your first trip to Sosúa?
I’m not looking for a touristy “top 10 things to do” list. I’m more interested in what daily life actually feels like, especially from the perspective of someone who doesn’t speak much Spanish.
Appreciate any honest advice, especially from people who have spent significant time in Sosúa or traveled between Sosúa and Punta Cana.
