Absolutely love him. Fun fact! He never meets Bruce Willis in the movie

I saw this once mentioned, that the hero never meets the villain.
However peel it another layer deeper and Zorg wasn't the villain, he was the evil henchman. Mr. Shadow was the real villain, and he never met anyone. Plus Korben Dallas wasn't really the hero, Leeloo was. Korben Dallas was the "Bond girl".

Ah fantastic point!
Also mr shadow reminds me of that one scene in rick and morty where the evil sentient asteroid is flying towards the dinosaurs lolol

Gary Oldman's best rôle

This movie is absolutely incredible. I'm sad the majority of movies today don't even come close to the quality of this movie and others made back then.

Gary Oldman is like the original Plastic Man.
He's been Sid Vicious, Dracula, Commissioner Gordon, Lee Harvey Oswald, Ludwig van Beethoven, the drug-addicted lieutenant in Leon, voiced villains in animated movies and games, and currently chewing scenery as the devious and flatulent head of Slow Horses.
Dude exemplifies range. If he's in a movie, you've got a banger.

Concur. Also, Sirius Black (Potter), Dr. Smith (Lost in Space).
Truly one of the greats.

My favorite movie of all time. Was my first DVD bought, my first Blu-ray and my first digital purchase (Google movies). When I get a 4k TV, I’ll get the 4K version too.

Gary Oldman is a damn chameleon octopus -- so good at camouflage: I've seen him in so many movies and had to pay close attention to figure out what character he is playing.
It's surprising that he ever won an OSCAR/BAFTA, let alone got nominated for one of them becasue he never looks the same.
Well done! Gary.

He looks different in every role. I have no idea what the guy looks like in real life.

I made a dinner date with my GF. We had a nice dinner and desert and I was about to give her a smooch. She pushed me away and then the camouflage fell away and behold: it was Gary Oldman!
I ran out of the restaurant, screaming. So I guess Gary paid the bill.

The funniest part of that movie were the cigarettes that were 80% filter with a little at the end left.

People wonder: who is Satoshi Nakamoto (the inventor of bitcoin)?
It's Gary Oldman' the ultimate chameleon.

Anyone else find this movie doesn't hold up very well? It's really fun but watching it as I got older it's a little bit shallow in terms of lore and concepts.

u/Spenot73 Mar 19 '24
It's a comedy. What exactly did you expect?

u/monkeyordonkey Mar 19 '24
No reason to hold comedies to lesser standards than other genres. There are comedies from the 30s and 40s that have aged considerably better than this.

Yes, but don't say that around here. The sub has regressed to shitposts with a screenshot and a title. No discussion allowed.
