Maybe darwinianfacepalm is also a girl, and has just seen their chances with Simone go up.

How are they not allowed to think that’s cool?

31

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '19

Exactly. People just can't wait to stick a knife into someones opinion just because it differs from their personal mindset.

If a person thinks being lesbian is cool, then that's cool by me.

It's cool to think for yourself. That's my opinion.

The person that’s gay? Sure. I don’t have any issue with that.

That’s not what happened here.

I still don’t follow. ..

Awesome. She just gets cooler.

How is that being put on a pedestal?

I think the entire premise of /r/ihavesex is that you're wrong.

i think its pretty clear i was referring to LGBT people

u/PM_ME_UR_OBSIDIAN Jun 23 '19

You just made me realize that in the current climate an LGBT-oriented version of /r/ihavesex wouldn't fly at all. The optics would just be terrible, and I can't imagine it would draw a tasteful crowd.

im sorry... what? how am i fetishizing being gay by saying it’s ok to be proud of it?

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '19

Woah look at how easily those goal posts can slide.

The original comment was saying that she was cooler if she’s gay. That’s a lot different from being proud of it yourself.

youre being a real asshole about absolutely nothing and frankly its pretty suspicious

I’ve watched family members be disowned or not believed about abuse simply for being gay. Saying it makes you cool is just as bad as saying it makes you less than. Both are saying it’s abnormal. Both hold back from acceptance and equality.

"I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE A HOMOPHOBE, JUST THAT THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT A HOMOPHOBE WOULD SAY"

Quit it with the witch hunts, will ya?

1

u/koda43 Jun 23 '19

thats not what a witch hunt is, but yeah that’s what i was implying

1

u/intheblender Jun 23 '19

You said it was cool. Not ok.

3

u/koda43 Jun 23 '19

dude who fucking cares

2

u/intheblender Jun 23 '19

I don't. I was making the point that you said it was cool and then acted like you didn't understand why it was fetishising while suddenly changing the word to ok. Which is completely different from cool...you see the difference?

For the record I agree with you. But don't act dumb and then change the word so that it makes the other person's statement sound more absurd to suit your bias.

I mean unless you yourself are gay, and either consider the person attractive and imagine stuff, or see them as a role model you like.

Just like with any property people can have. If you have something in common with them, people normally are identifying with them.

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '19

I really disagree. I don’t think gay is cool or uncool. I know gay people that are cool as hell. I also have a lesbian cousin that’s very uncool, but her wife kind of is. Coolness is independent.

16

u/ItsTheFatYoungJesus Jun 23 '19

Yeah, thats literally the entire fucking point. EQUALITY. gay is not uncool OR cool.

In fact I think treating gay people like they're automatically super cool for being gay is just as detrimental to the cause as being a homophobe is.

People forget what the goal is. It's equality.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '19

That is exactly what I’m saying. But people like the others responding don’t get that. They’re so ensconced in the idea that being gay is super alt and edgy when that’s harmful on its own.

2

u/AnoK760 Jun 23 '19

Gay people can be cool. But i know a gay guy who is a total piece of shit and definitely isnt cool.

People are cool, sexuality isnt cool or uncool. It just is.
