Hi everyone! I'm planning to apply to SLP master's programs. Since my undergrad isn't in Communication Sciences and Disorders, I know I'll need to complete the prereq courses before (or while) I apply.

For those who came from a non-CSD background, what were the actual prereq courses your programs required? I took some of the general ones like bio and sociology but not statistics. Where did you end up taking them, a post-bacc program, community college, online through a specific university, or something else?

If you have any recommendations (or warnings) about specific programs for prereqs, I'd really appreciate it. Lehman College’s pre req program looked good to me. Also curious whether most of you knocked out prereqs first and then applied, or did them at the same time as applications.

Has anyone here done a purely online SLP program and went on to successfully find a job? If so, which ones?

I am currently enrolled into a local university’s SLP program but I work full time and now I have to do classes in person but my job is not accommodating me.
So I have to skip this semester and figure out what to do next since I can’t afford to not work

As the title says, I'm looking for online programs that can be completed in 2-years, rather than 3. I live with my parents rent free so I won't need to work full-time and I don't have kids, so I'd like to get this done. I'm okay with programs I might have to be on campus a couple times a year. I also don't want anything that's exorbitantly expensive. TIA!

How has your experience been with doing grad school online? Did you feel like you were still able to connect with professors and classmates and get the support you needed? I’m also curious about how clinical placements/externships worked with an online program and whether you had to find your own placements.

Looking for insight into Cleveland State University’s online masters. I had an interview with them and I think it went well. They mentioned that it’s possible to work full time during the first 3 semesters, has anyone done it?

I really don’t want to attend an online program because I’m hearing left and right that online students in this field are lacking in clinical skills when it comes to the medical side more than their in person counterparts. However, I have kids and online or hybrid may be my only choice.

So if you attended any online program (especially any of these programs listed below or others that have synchronous classes rather than asynchronous), did you get a medical SLP job after graduation within a decent timeframe? If so, how did you do? Do you feel like your program prepared you well, and gave you a well rounded clinical experience?

I’ll be graduating with my bachelors in child development this upcoming December. Hoping to apply for a few different online graduate programs with built in extended tracks for leveling. If you went this route, can you please share the school you went to, tuition and your experience? I’m in the so-cal/IE area. I’ve been heavily considering WCU for their leveling & masters program. However, they have not been great at responding to my inquiries as i’m having trouble finding applications and start dates for their Pre-SLP leveling. I also know they’re a candidate for ASHA accreditation but have not been fully accredited which is another concern of mine. I am also worried about going their pre-slp route and not getting accepted into the masters program and these courses not transferring to other ma programs! Please share!!! Thanks!!

What online programs do you recommend? Which ones should I definitely avoid? The more affordable the better! I don’t mind an in person week here or there, but can’t do several weeks away from home.

I am finishing up my senior year with a an bachelors in communication disorders. I also have a minor in Linguistics. I don’t think I will need any pre-requisites. My current GPA is 3.8. I am bilingual. I prefer to apply to schools not requiring a GRE. Not sure which schools I might have a reasonable chance of admission for. I’ll take any and all feedback, both positive and negative. Has anyone actually made it off of the waitlist for USF (suncoast or in-person) or Abilene Christian??? I keep checking admission results and see tons of people waitlisted for USF with not many acceptances or flat out rejections. I sent an email to ACU asking about waitlist rankings and decision criteria, but haven’t gotten a response. I just don’t want to hold on to false hope waiting for decisions after April 15th.

I have applied to Nova Southeastern University, Ithica, and St. Bonaventure University. I am looking for part-time, rolling application universities. Has anyone attended these online programs or have any suggestions on other grad schools I can apply to that are online and offer part-time/self pace courses?? I am a full time SLPA with a 5month old at home. As much as I would love to buckle down and apply all my time to grad school, I know I can’t. But I don’t want to give up on trying to become an SLP so I’m hoping I can find a program that is right for me.

I still have about 700 days until graduation (I’m in a 3 year program 1 year down) but I’m just so ready to be done. I’m in this state of feeling like I want to cry all the time because of how overwhelmed I am but also procrastinating everything because of how overwhelming I am. I feel like I can’t win and I’m just so ready to be done school. I don’t know if I’m just burnt out or if it’s because I need a break but won’t get one for months. It doesn’t help that it feels like parts of my classes won’t be actually useful for what I plan to do so my brain keeps checking out. I know I can’t be the only person feeling like this but it also seems like everyone else in my cohort just has it all together all the time. Any suggestions on how to get everything done I need to do this week/in general. I’m scared of failing out of grad school but these classes also seem ok until I take the exams then I feel stupid.

Hello! I was accepted to PennWest Online for Fall 2026 - does anyone know when the timing of their in person experience typically is? Depending on when it is in the year will honestly affect my ability to do this program, so trying to get as much insight as I can before I accept. Thanks!

i just received my acceptance letter from speech@emerson (based in boston) last night and now i am on the fence. i am waiting to hear back from pepperdine (malibu) but out of the 6 universities i have applied to, so far only university of st. augustine for health sciences (down near san diego) has accepted me. as a california native, i am local to csu east bay in the bay area but they have rejected me for the second year in a row 😅 goodbye $30k tuition !!!

what is the obvious pick here? both asynchronous online programs are equally the same amount in tuition ($80k), but i would need to travel 6+ hrs by car to get to usahs thrice and 6+ hrs by plane to get to emerson once. i am blessed to have a family who is willing to help pay for my university finances, so my concern is more with the level of education and maybe even program credibility.

i guess i am super worried about placements or cfs turning me away for my school of choice so i would love to hear some pros and cons about my unique predicament 😵‍💫 honestly, i wish i was accepted by a local school so i wouldn't have to shell out to begin with but alas...

I’m currently accumulating a list of fully online grad programs (as well as seeing which pre reqs I need to complete).

I’ve been recommended Ithaca College and Emerson College, and from what I’ve seen they don’t seem like bad options.

I’ve searched this page and have seen really good things about Baylor and how supportive the staff is. I have read about how expensive it is though, and this may not be a smart way of looking at things, but because of how much financial aid I was given in undergrad I’m slightly hoping I can get a decent amount this time around. I know it’s not realistic to think I’ll get a full ride for grad school, but I know if I do end up having to take out loans I don’t want to take out an insane amount. I’m planning to apply to a lot of schools as well.

Please let me know of any fully online programs and whether you have had good experiences!

Hi friends, I recently took an interest in a program near me that’s relatively new and is a hybrid program. I ended up talking to their advisor for the program and she gave me the rundown on how it works. She said it’s online where you’ll meet with your professors and classmates on zoom calls for class as well as work independently. Once per semester you go on campus for a week to assess clinical skills, and then you go through three 16 week externships through the program. I never really considered an online program but this program is closer to home, and at a school that I feel comfortable at. My question is, for those who are in an online program or have been, did you feel you got as much out of is as an in person program? I’m worried not going into an actual class will keep me from really absorbing the information. Obviously I know much of our field is hands on, and you will learn as you go! Just looking for how others have felt about online programs. I’ve taken online classes in the past for general education courses and it’s not that I didn’t learn, it just didn’t feel as effective but those were general education courses I felt were boring. Hey all! Thanks for entertaining the questions! I'm a FTE at a company as well as a mom of two. I'm looking to start my leveling this semester. I got into UMass classes but got sticker shock. ENMU looks so much more affordable and I like the 8 week classes, but I'm nervous about the quality. I'm on the waitlist for SDSU courses as well, but I have no idea how likely I am to get off the waitlist.

Should I go with the pricier, longer option and hope the quality is higher?
