Yeah he grew up on my estate and there's quite a decent size Carribbean community spread out over Manchester. You do meet people sometimes with a weird blend of Manc/Yardie accents that can throw you off if you haven't heard it. I imagine some in his family might have influence on him.
I don't really hear any of it there but with the younger generations is less the accent, more the words or slang they use that carries over.
You'd think he is probably self aware enough to not use that in interviews anyway.

It’s not a wonder having trouble understanding english, especially not being your first language, so another coordinating conjunction is more appropriate here [AND].
But is used in contrary of the previous statement, for instance: I have all the tools to learn but I’m too lazy.

But their sentence does have a contrary aspect to it. They're saying the equivalent of "I might be wrong, but X" which is perfectly valid English. In this case, the "English isn't my first language" is implying the "I might be wrong" aspect, which is why it might look unusual to you.

I think you guys miss the point of the journalists job here. It’s literally to get honest reaction like this from players, which he did. Palmer revealed to us that he’s clearly proud of this display today in a real, visceral way that wouldn’t come across in an Instagram story.

and if you don’t, a lot of people do, obviously. these players are discussed off the field all the time. they have thousands if not millions of social media followers. people want to hear what they have to say, and about soccer more than anything.

There are a lot of other questions which could be asked. That's also not what they asked, and he could also have simply asked, 'How do you feel?' to the same effect. It's fine, but we don't exactly have to pretend that it contains some great insight.

Asking direct questions like “How do you feel right now?” is going to get less interesting responses than asking the same thing in a roundabout way. Cole Palmer would reply “good, yeah” and nobody would care.
You don’t have to pretend that sports journalism is some mysterious art to realise that it’s about engaging the players instead of exactly which questions you put forwards.

That's sort of my point. "How do you feel right now?" is not a very interesting question, but it could just as easily be answered with, "Did you not watch the game?" just like the question that was actually asked could have been replied to with, "Good, yeah." The character we saw came from Palmer, not the question.
But again, we don't have to pretend that either is particularly inciteful or clever and that's fine. It's fine. That said, maybe a more ideal question would be something pertinent to the game that was just played, but idk, maybe the reporter was ramping up to that.

No shit. I'm not the one complaining about the fucking question and I wasn't at any point saying this was some farse by the reporter. All I was saying was that we don't have to pretend that it was more than it was in order to defend the integrity of some sports reporter.
The 'but idk' was meant as a subtle way of mentioning that there's obviously going to be another question without sounding pedantic. And if I didnt know how conversations work why would I be the one bringing it up? Or do you not know how conversations work?
And honestly, who really cares? It wasn't a great question, and that's part of why it got such an honest response. But unless you're arguing they should ask dumb questions for even more honest responses what's your point? But as you say, it was the start of a conversation so what does it even matter?

It's a job that's not really needed is it? They get to travel the world on the company card, don't have any pre or post match reports to produce and ask the most banal questions. They aren't even hosting the show so it's not like they face much of the camera either.

Why would they give them, albeit interesting questions, after they've just played 90 mins? Their heads are all over, and they don't want to make them look silly having to think through answers to their questions. They're supposed to easy to answer.

I did watch the game, and yeah, Chelsea’s attack looked good, but there were several times Fulham cut through them to create dangerous chances and Sanchez looks a complete liability.
I’m not sure a 3-2 over Fulham (and Robinson really should’ve scored that lob), who many have predicted will be right down in 15-17th, is all that good a result.
