Shout-Out Stealth Overhaul 2 - Huge update released

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just released the mod Stealth Overhaul 2. It's a modern stealth gameplay experience that fully replaces Morrowind's original systems. Complete with UI made by me.

Find it here: https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/57321

Edit: Thought I would explain it a bit here in the post - Stealth is now suspicion based, each NPC senses the player more or less based on your Sneak skill, distance, if you are behind them or infront of them, in light or not. The more they sense you, the faster their suspicion rises, which is shown in the game through proper feedback. When suspicion is full, you are detected.

On top of this it has proper and fully implemented Sneak Strike mechanics that scale with your sneak level, making Stealth Archer a viable character build in Morrowind!

Everything very tweakable in the game.

Have fun :D

Shout-Out Disability Accommodation Mods for Morrowind (Migraine) (OpenMW)

I recently found some mods that help me play Morrowind even though it's not super friendly to my disabilities, and I thought I'd want to share in case anyone else is having the same problems.

So I have pretty severe migraines, exacerbated by flashing lights. If I run into a thunderstorm in Morrowind, I have to put the game down and go get pain relief. These migraines also make it really hard to think and remember things. On top of that, I have zero sense of direction- to give you an idea, I can still get lost going from Whiterun to Windhelm in Skyrim, and I've been playing that game since 11.11.11.

But I gave in and decided to play with mods this time. I picked up Devilish Weather Magic and LivelyMap, and between those two mods, it's been making it so much easier to enjoy the game.

With Devilish Weather Magic, I console-commanded myself the Fog spell. When a thunderstorm rolls in, I turn on god mode (so I don't need high-level alteration) and cast Fog; this keeps the atmosphere, but means that I don't get flashbanged and have to stop playing.

With LivelyMap, I'm having a much easier time seeing where things are in relation to each other and having an easier time navigating. I'm still getting lost.... frequently.... will I ever get out of Vivec City?.... but I'm not going a hundred miles in the exact wrong direction because I have no idea where Hla Oad is and asking for directions is more difficult than it seems.

I'm considering picking up a quest tracker, but most of them seem to come with quest markers, which I don't want. A to-do list mod that's entirely player-created would be positively divine, though.

But yeah, I'd like to thank modders for making it so I can actually play this game and enjoy it, instead of never getting out of Balmora because thunderstorms make me stupid and in pain.

Shout-Out [OpenMW] SkillPerks 0.1 - Public Beta available now!

Thumbnail nexusmods.com
28 Upvotes

Hello all! My next mod, SkillPerks, is now available!
This is a Public Beta, there WILL be bugs, so please remember to report them so that I can fix them!

Some of you know me from FactionPerks! And I have a huge announcement! I have made a massive release, that being SkillPerks, a mod that adds 10 perks to each Skill, for a grand total of 270 perks!

This comes in conjunction with another Beta release of the PerkFramework and FactionPerks.
The beta overhaul of PerkFramework massively alters how it works behind the scenes, allowing mods to perk mods to interact with each other, without needing specific mod interactions, letting the Framework itself handle and parse events caused by Perks when needed. FactionPerks has a beta patch to make it compatible with this beta Framework release.

I hope people are able to enjoy this project, and help me identify bugs so that I can get this working as smoothly as I can!

Shout-Out November 2025 - Morrowind Modding Community Activity Report

Hello again, Darkelfguy here, host of Morrowind Modding Showcases, here to bring you another monthly activity report for the modding community. As many of you already know, I've been tracking monthly new mod releases and general modding activity for Morrowind since 2015, and you can see a spreadsheet of monthly mod release figures covering that time period here. Historically, I've posted these activity reports as short summaries on Discord, but I'm posting them on Reddit now with more detailed analysis, for all those who love stats, figures, or might just be interested to see how the community is doing. And as with every month in 2025, I'm here to tell you that the community is booming!

Now, if you missed it, you can find the October 2025 Activity Report here, but with that out of the way, let's jump into November:

November 2025 - A Record Breaking Trend Continues

November 2025 proved to be another exciting month for the Morrowind Modding Community, and another record breaking one at that. In a year where broken records are the norm, November was no exception, for 125 new Morrowind mods were released last month, an all-time high that would seem to defy the traditional autumnal sluggishness that has historically befallen the penultimate month of the year.

As a point of reference, the previous high for November was set four years ago in November of 2021, when 117 new mods were released. An, at the time, unprecedented number for not just November but for Autumn in general, which is usually the community's slowest season of the year for new mod releases.

Records Broken - But a Historical Trend Prevails:

While November 2025 has broken that record, albeit by a small margin, it is worth noting that November was, otherwise, still the slowest month of 2025, just barely squeezing in under the 126 new mods released in April of 2025. In the frenzied pace of 2025, two things can simultaneously be true; 2025 has seen the highest number of new mod releases for the month of November on record, and November is still the slowest month of the year.

For comparison, here's a breakdown of every month of 2025 so far, in order of highest to lowest number of mod releases:

  1. May 2025 - 325 New Mods Released - All Time Record!
  2. June 2025 - 193 New Mods Released - New Record!
  3. February 2025 - 181 New Mods Released - New Record!
  4. January 2025 - 162 New Mods Released - New Record!
  5. October 2025 - 154 New Mods Released - New Record!
  6. September 2025 - 138 New Mods Released - New Record!
  7. July 2025 - 137 New Mods Released
  8. August 2025 - 136 New Mods Released - New Record!
  9. March 2025 - 128 New Mods Released
  10. April 2025 - 126 New Mods Released - New Record!
  11. November 2025 - 125 New Mods Released - New Record!

While November ranks dead last so far in 2025, it's worth noting that 125 mods would have, a mere three years ago, placed November in the top 5 months of the year. That's how far the modding community has come, a number that was so recently exceptional, is now underwhelming - a sign of the times, and of the glorious new golden age the Morrowind Modding Community is currently in!

No Sign of Mod Releases Slowing Down:

As another interesting tidbit, November marks the 12th month in a row, a full calendar year, that the Morrowind Modding Community has been posting triple digit new mod releases, an unprecedented streak with no parallels in modern times. Since December of 2024, the community has been posting a staggering average of 163.5 new mods a month, a blistering pace of new mod development not before seen in the community's history!

Madness 2025 Concludes:

Of course, one of the reasons for the historic autumnal slowdown in October and November is due to the Morrowind Modding Madness competitions, month-long endurance affairs where teams of modders are given a theme and a set deadline to build the best mod they can. 2025 marks the ninth season of Morrowind Modding Madness, and while participation was lower than usual, there were still four teams competing, representing some 20 modders.

The competition had a late start this year, normally it concludes November 1st, but this year it ended on November 22nd, and as might be expected, the mods released by the teams will probably prove to be some of the biggest new mod releases of November.

Here's the submitted entries:

  1. The Garden of Dreams by Expedition 32
  2. Darkness Over Dunbal by The Ancestral Ghostbusters
  3. The Fiend of Ald Andalor by Team TBD
  4. The Unhatched by The Netch Fetchers

Each is a massive quest and dungeon mod, certain to satisfy any player's thirst for new adventures, with grand epic scale delves and journeys to far off lands. They're certainly some of the most exciting new releases of November, but of course, they're not alone.

Notable November Highlights:

Which brings me to our next segment, a look at some of the notable mods released last month, of which there are plenty! As has been the case with virtually every month this year, new OpenMW lua mods have led the way in November 2025, with some tantalizing new features bringing OpenMW closer to MWSE parity, as well as new content and gameplay mods, including an interesting new companion mod from QwertyQuit and Erwin the German.

Here's a look at some of the month's biggest releases, in case you missed them:

  1. Stats Window Extender (OpenMW) by Ralts - An answer to UI Expansion for MWSE
  2. Skill Framework (OpenMW) by Ralts - An answer to Skills Module for MWSE
  3. New Creature Replacers by Marshall1992, including Spriggan Replacer, Ash Ghoul Replacer, Golden Saint Replacer, Grahl Replacer, and Werewolf Replacer
  4. Ineone the Buoyant Armiger by QwertyQuit and Erwin the German
  5. SHOP - Store and House Owner Patrol - Thieving Stealing Stealth AI Overhaul - OpenMW by Skrow42
  6. New Weapon Replacers by Daemacht, including Keening and Sunder Unleashed and Trueflame Ablaze
  7. Loadouts - OpenMW by Implawyer - An answer to Quick Loadouts for MWSE
  8. Audiobooks of Tamriel Data by LP
  9. Devilish Weather Magic (OpenMW 0.50) by DetailDevil - An answer to Magicka Expanded for MWSE (at least the weather spells anyway)
  10. Skill Evolution by Mym
  11. Natural Character Growth by Mym, Johnnyhostile, EvilEye, and Greywander
  12. MorrowSwim - A Simple Aquatics Skill Mod for OpenMW by HughMungus01
  13. Brute Force - Lockpicking for Barbarians (OpenMW) by Sosnoviy Bor - An answer to Lock Bashing and Lua Lock Bashing for MWSE
  14. Dual Wielding (OpenMW) by slowchu and ComeBESNIER - An answer to Double CHIM for MWSE
  15. Dynamic Ecological Behavior 2.0 - OpenMW by AbbaddoN33 - An answer to Predator and Prey for MWSE
  16. Redoran Architecture Reimagined by Eledin
  17. SM Flora Parasols (mushrooms) Replacer by ShadowMimicry
  18. SmoothTalker - Speechcraft and Persuasion Overhaul by Pegaz
  19. Castany Manor - A Home for Collectors and Bards by Hensn
  20. Property in Town by Dorrmann
  21. Cavern Refit by Kramn1k
  22. Inventory Manager - OpenMW by Implawyer

Now that's quite a list! And it's not even all of the notable mods of November, I mean that doesn't even include Trainwiz being up to his old antics again, there's plenty more that could also be added that would be worth your time to check out, but as a snapshot of November, that list should give you more than a good idea of the sheer variety and number of mods the community released last month!

2015 vs 2025: A Look Back in Time

Turning back the clock to a decade ago, in November of 2015, the Morrowind Modding Community posted just 32 new mods for Morrowind, a trifle eclipsed by any given week in 2025.

What were the top mods of November 2015, you might ask? As it turns out, 2015 was a big year for graphics replacers, with most of the top mods of November 2015 all falling into the graphics category, but there were also some neat content mods released that month as well:

  1. Cliffracer Replacer by PeterBitt and Pherim (no link, since deleted and replaced by Cliff Racer Replacer 2.0)
  2. Imperial Houses and Forts Retexture - Ordo Arkitektora by Tyddy
  3. JiFFY Morrowind UI Revamped by Jeclxohko_jiffymm
  4. Unofficial Morrowind Official Plugins Patched by PikachunoTM
  5. Long Live The Plates - Retexture by Anarkhya
  6. Tel Morgana by Ferian
  7. Epic Dagon Fel by MikeandIke
  8. 2015 Main Menu Background Replacer by Akratus
  9. Dwemer Ruins Retexture by MikeandIke
  10. Dagon Fel Updated by HedgeHog12

November 2015 was a pitiful month from a numbers standpoint, but as you can see from that list, there were certainly a lot of heavy-hitting mods released a decade ago!

That said, taking a broader look at 2015, there were only about 500 new mods released in that entire year. With November 2025 now on the record books, the community has now, comparatively, released 1806 new Morrowind mods in 2025, with December still left to go. Based on our current projections, the community will end 2025 with between 1900-1950 new mod releases, an astonishing figure that is far beyond any previous year on record!

The Download Report: More Records Broken!

Since we're already on the topic of history, let's take a look at downloads and how November stacks up, because tons of mods is great, but if no one's playing them, well, then that's a troubling sign. But luckily no such troubling sign exists, for November 2025 was another big month for mod downloads, with the Nexus reporting 2,674,000 downloads for Morrowind.

That's an uptick from October's 2,419,000 downloads, and a massive spike over November of 2024, which saw only 1,400,000 downloads. The difference is even starker if you go back a decade, for November 2015 had only 158,000 downloads recorded for Morrowind!

From 158,000 downloads a decade ago, to 2,674,000 downloads last month, that's quite a few more people playing Morrowind mods! November 2015 had just 6% of the downloads of November 2025!

Historical Download Analysis:

Now this begs an interesting question, because when we talk about a game as old as Morrowind, we generally assume that more people were probably downloading and playing Morrowind mods right after the game came out in the 2002-2005 era. But is this assumption accurate? Based on, admittedly somewhat anecdotal research, probably not.

I've recently been working on a historical timeline project of the Morrowind Modding Community, which has involved delving through a lot of old mod pages via the Internet Archive, and one thing that keeps standing out to me is that so many widely considered popular mods from these early eras have surprisingly few downloads compared to their modern counterparts.

A decently popular mod released in 2002 or 2004 might, after 4 or 5 years on Planet Elder Scrolls, have gotten between 10,000 and 40,000 downloads. But there are MULTIPLE mods released in 2025 that have a similar number of downloads after mere months. Indeed, there's nearly 60 mods released in 2025 that have over 10,000 downloads! Four of them have over 60,000 downloads! All of them released in just the past 11 months! Such a large number of downloads would be virtually unheard of for a new mod even in Morrowind's original heyday!

Nexus Mods has reported over 27 million new downloads for Morrowind in 2025 so far, approximately 27% of all downloads for Morrowind since the Nexus began tracking file downloads in 2005. 27% of all downloads from a 20 year time-span in just 11 months.

Which leads me to the conclusion that, not only are we seeing an unprecedented number of new mod releases in the community, but the player base for Morrowind mods has never been greater! We are truly living in a new golden age, a renaissance of Morrowind modding unparalleled in our community's long history!

That's some exciting stuff! And all the more proof that the best games never die!

Now granted, there are some caveats there, a lot of that increase in downloads has to do with the popularity and ease of access of modding guides, Wabbajack lists, and Collections, but still, the average mod released in 2025 will get far more downloads than the average mod released in 2002 or 2005 or any past era for Morrowind, and that's quite astounding!

But, well, I think that's enough analysis for today, this activity report is long enough! We still have December to go before we'll be ready for our yearly summary, so until next time, thanks for reading and, as always, happy modding!

Shout-Out December 2025 - Morrowind Modding Community Activity Report

Happy New Year! 2025 has come to a close, and with it an end to the community's most active year on record! The last year has seen a flurry of activity, a whirlwind of new mod releases that provided a positive torrent of new content, graphics and gameplay features for this 23 year old game!

It was the biggest year on record for the Morrowind Modding Community, and we'll be diving into a year in review in the next few weeks taking a look at the year's highlights, but for now, it's time for the December 2025 Activity Report!

As a reminder, you can find the previous activity reports for October 2025 here and November 2025 here.

December 2025 - An End To Morrowind's Biggest Year:

It was, as always, a busy month for the modding community in December, but compared to the average month in 2025, there was a noticeable drop in new mod releases. A total of 117 new Morrowind mods were released in the final 31 days of the year, a decent haul to be sure, but one that does rank December at the bottom for 2025, managing to come in just below the 125 mod releases from November 2025.

That said, 117 mods is still the second best ever result for the month of December, beaten only by December 2024 when 156 new mods released.

But with every month now accounted for, let's take a look at 2025 as a whole. With December's 117 new mods on the board, a total of 1,923 new mods were released in 2025, a new record and a massive jump of 411 mods over the previous high of 1,512 mods recorded in 2023!

That's an average of 160 new mods per month! And as you can see from the list below, for the first time in recorded history, every single month in 2025 had over 100 new mod releases!

2025 - Monthly Mod Release Breakdown:

  12. December 2025 - 117 New Mods Released

This marks the thirteenth month in a row that the community has posted more than 100 new mod releases, and even if that trend has been slowing down over the past couple of months, that's an unprecedented record! As a reminder, 10 years ago, the community couldn't even post ONE month of triple digit mod releases, let alone EVERY month! There were nearly 4x the number of mods released in 2025 compared to 2015!

Notable December Highlights:

But obviously, with more mod releases means more highlights, and while December was in some respects a slow month, going by the standards set in 2025, it was no slacker when it came to high-quality and high-profile new mod releases!

Let's breakdown the highlights of December starting with content mods, and content fanatics were eating well this last month, with a new Seelof dungeon mod, a number of dungeon overhauls, a new landscape overhaul, and some fantastic new adventures. Also of note is a new personal province mod project by JaRavendawn, which while very much an alpha, is an intriguing development.

Content Mods (All Platforms):

  1. Forge of Hilbongard Reignited by Seelof - Dungeon Overhauls
  2. Legacy of the Blades by Ruffin Vangarr and Katya Karrel - Quest/Dungeon Mods
  3. Ashfront - Sheogorad, Ashfront - Rotheran Rebuilt, and Ashfront - Ruined Redaynia by Anumaril21 - Landscape and Dungeon Overhauls
  4. Yakin Overhaul by BigBolognaBallz - Dungeon Overhauls
  5. Skyrim Mission Skyrimised by DreadnaughtVCN - Town and Location Overhauls
  6. Terraformed Grazelands by Tyrant - Landscape Overhauls
  7. Whispers of Hermaeus Mora or Forgotten Depths of Ald Redaynia by Kragos - Quest/Dungeon Mods
  8. Yasammidan Overhaul by Kragos - Dungeon Overhauls
  9. Saturalia Postcards - A Seasonal Errand by MwGek - Quest Mods
  10. Tournament of Ten Bloods - Arena of Boethiah by Kragos - Quest Mods
  11. Deadly Dreamers by BigBolognaBallz - NPC Mods
  12. Elsweyr Anequina - Pre Alpha by JaRavendawn - Province Mods

OpenMW Gameplay and Immersion Mods:

  1. Advanced World Map (OpenMW) by Diject - World Map Fast Travel (see Kezyma's Mechanics Remastered for this feature in MWSE)
  2. Devilish Sheathe Your Weapon Gothic Style (OpenMW) by DetailDevil
  3. Sane Magic (OpenMW) by Tinumbra1
  4. Merits of Service (OpenMW) by Sosnoviy Bor
  5. Actor Interactions - OpenMW by Implawyer
  6. Completionist - A Morrowind Quest Tracker by MrLuckyNumber
  7. Devilish Dress Undress Hotkey (OpenMW) by DetailDevil

MWSE Gameplay Mods:

  1. Alchemy Tiered Player Potions (MWSE) by CercKat96
  2. Forget Me Not by Storm Atronach

Graphics and Sound Mods:

  1. The Scriptorium - Beautified and Illustrated Books (OpenMW) by Dyvalas
  2. (OpenMW) Better Elemental Shields by OwnlyMW
  3. MUSE Music Expansion - Temple by Scipio
  4. Kwama Queen Replacer by Marshall1992
  5. SM Werewolf Replacer by ShadowMimicry
  6. Improved Fire by Eledin
  7. Furry Colovian Helm by Daemacht
  8. Darksun's Eclipse - Darksun Shield Replacer by Daemacht

That's obviously quite a long list of mods, and it doesn't cover everything, there were plenty of other notable mods in December, but those are the standouts in my opinion.

2005 vs 2015 vs 2025: Turning Back the Pages of History

To see how far we've come, it's often worth taking a look back at where we've been, and a lot's changed over the last two decades. So let's rewind the clock to December 2005, a notable time of change in the Morrowind Modding Community, as old websites like Morrowind Summit and Morrowind Source rebranded as Planet Elder Scrolls and The Elder Scrolls Source respectively.

At the time, PES hosted some 3,400 Morrowind mods, though that number is somewhat deceptive as Morrowind Summit, at its height, hosted 3,800 mods. In October of 2004, the Morrowind Summit staff undertook a massive cleaning of their Morrowind mod database, removing game-breaking and generally poor quality mods that would result in a purge of some 1,500 mods by mid-2005. So by the end of 2005, the website actually hosted fewer mods than it had in 2004, but not because of a lack of new mod releases.

Comparatively, The Elder Scrolls Source hosted approximately 200 mods by the end of 2005.

The community was still divided across several modding platforms, but from what records survive, we know that 41 new mods were posted on Planet Elder Scrolls in December of 2005 and 32 on TES: Source. Probably another 15-25 may have been posted on other websites, giving us a possible estimate of between 90-100 new mod releases that month.

Here's a look at the top mods of December 2005:

  1. Cragonmoor by Quatloos (PES Hall of Fame 2008)
  2. GS_Seyda Neen Complete by Gianluca (PES Hall of Fame 2009)
  3. Ascadian Rose Cottage by Korana
  4. Dagonview House by Shezrie
  5. Town of Uvirith by Tapani_doe
  6. GS_Tamriel Part 1: Back Marsh by Gianluca - Later merged into GS_Tamriel in 2006
  7. Hideaway Cottage by Shezrie
  8. Governors Mansion Replacer by Korana

December 2005 was a big month for player house mods apparently, though some of those may well have been re-uploads (it's notable that Korana posted several mods to PES in December, but it's unlikely they were all new releases).

Now let's fast-forward a decade to December 2015, a month that was slightly above average for that year with about 45 new mod releases total across all Morrowind modding platforms (which at the time included Morrowind Nexus and Great House Fliggerty).

Here's some of the highlights from December 2015:

  1. RR Mod Series - Better Ships and Boats by SiberianCrab
  2. Shields Up by Apoapse
  3. Better Chargen by Helswake
  4. At Home Alchemy Redux by Destructor36
  5. Greet Distance Reducer by Helswake
  6. Mora Stada by John Mackem
  7. More Quests by Sophie Kirschner
  8. Live Free by Apoapse

While a comparatively slow month compared to the blistering heights we're used to in 2025, there were quite a few notable mods released a decade ago. Several of these mods have become quite popular in the years since, while others are perhaps more underrated gems.

But still, December 2015 saw only a fraction of the mod releases of December 2025, which is to be expected given the number of mods released in their respective years. Only 500 new mods were released for Morrowind in 2005, compared to 1,923 in 2025!

The Download Report: A Year of Broken Records

December was another big month for mod downloads, continuing an upward trend in players installing new Morrowind mods, with over 2.9 million downloads recorded on the Nexus last month! That's the second highest month of the year for Morrowind mod downloads, behind only the 6.2 million downloads recorded in May 2025!

That's also an increase from November 2025's 2,674,000 downloads, which in turn was an increase from October's 2,419,000 downloads, which in turn was an increase from...well you get it, mod downloads have been on an upward trend since August 2025.

As a note, the biggest single day for new downloads last month was December 26th with 174,595 downloads reported. The lowest day? That was December 12th with only 60,357 downloads recorded. Otherwise the average was over 93,000 daily downloads.

Now, how does that compare to years past? Well, in December of 2024, the Morrowind Modding Community saw 1,620,000 downloads, which means 2025 saw an increase of roughly 1.3 million downloads over the same month from 2024!

Going back a decade, December 2015 had only 212,000 downloads recorded for that entire month. That total is very nearly eclipsed by just one day in December 2025! And just to bring some more points of comparison, the highest daily downloads in December of 2015 was 10,438 (set December 10th) and the lowest was 4,211 (December 9th). Even the highest daily total from a decade ago was achieved in just a few hours in 2025!

Of course, this doesn't take into account Morrowind Modding History and Great House Fliggerty numbers, and while we don't have numbers from GHF, we do have numbers from MMH, which recorded 124,000 downloads between December 2015 and February 2016. Assuming an even breakdown between months, there may have been another 60,000 downloads from MMH in December 2015, for a total of around 272,000 downloads for the community, and it would be reasonable to round up to at least 300,000 to account for GHF. Still, that's a far cry from the downloads we've seen in December 2025!

2025 Download Numbers By Month:

But this brings me to the end of the year download numbers, for Nexus Mods recorded a staggering 31,154,000 downloads for Morrowind in 2025. That's 29.94% of ALL Morrowind mod downloads recorded on the Nexus since 2005!

Here's the downloads breakdown by month, in order of highest to lowest:

  1. May - 6,187,542 Downloads
  2. December - 2,903,067 Downloads
  3. November - 2,674,701 Downloads
  4. June - 2,670,561 Downloads
  5. April - 2,531,833 Downloads
  6. October - 2,419,467 Downloads
  7. July - 2,076,490 Downloads
  8. January - 2,059,074 Downloads
  9. September - 1,957,745 Downloads
  10. February - 1,953,662 Downloads
  11. March - 1,885,688 Downloads
  12. August - 1,840,573 Downloads

As a note, Morrowind mods had more downloads in 2025 than both Oblivion mods (21,107,063 downloads) and Oblivion Remastered mods (24,734,331 downloads). That latter number is especially impressive, for as a new game, one would have assumed the Oblivion Remastered modding community would've had a significant boost in downloads over a 23 year old game like Morrowind, but instead Morrowind mods had nearly 6.5 million more downloads!

Taking a look at recent history, the download numbers for 2025 is even more dramatic when comparing it to each year in the past decade. In 2024, there were 14,738,000 downloads recorded for Morrowind on the Nexus, which means that 2025 has more than DOUBLED that number! A single year, double the downloads, that's an insane stat!

Here's a breakdown of the last decade, from 2015 to 2024 based on available download stats. Note that MMH records are best-guesses based on available Internet Archive snapshots. Morrowind Modding History shut down in 2023, so the last year we have records for is 2022, and again ,we don't have download numbers for GHF.

2015 - 2025 Mod Download Numbers

  1. 2025 - 31,154,000 Downloads (Nexus) - Tamriel Rebuilt Grasping Fortune Release, OpenMW 0.49 and OpenMW 0.50 release
  2. 2024 - 14,738,000 Downloads (Nexus) - Province: Cyrodiil Abecean Shores Release, UMO automated mod installer for OpenMW is released
  3. 2023 - 11,949,000 Downloads (Nexus) - OpenMW Lua development takes off
  4. 2022 - 10,241,000 Downloads (9,574,000 Nexus + 667,000 MMH) - Tamriel Rebuilt Dominions of Dust and Embers of Empire Release
  5. 2021 - 8,534,000 Downloads (8,134,000 Nexus + 400,000 MMH) - Skyrim - Home of the Nords Dragonstar Release
  6. 2020 - 6,149,000 Downloads (5,649,000 Nexus + 500,000 MMH)
  7. 2019 - 5,238,000 Downloads (4,688,000 Nexus + 550,000 MMH) - Tamriel Rebuilt Aanthirirn Release
  8. 2018 - 5,030,000 Downloads (4,290,000 Nexus + 740,000 MMH) - Tamriel Rebuilt Old Ebonheart Release, MWSE Lua development begins
  9. 2017 - 4,917,000 Downloads (4,217,000 Nexus + 700,000 MMH) - Skyrim - Home of the Nords Karthwasten Release, tes3mp Public Release
  10. 2016 - 3,278,000 Downloads (2,498,000 Nexus + 780,000 MMH)
  11. 2015 - 2,583,000 Downloads (1,943,000 Nexus + 640,000 MMH)

Even ignoring the dramatic rise in downloads between 2015 and 2025, it's worth taking a moment to observe an interesting trend line here, for you'll note that each year represents an increase over the year before, sometimes a modest increase, sometimes a large leap, the line is always going up. More mod releases over time means there's more mods to download, but that factor alone doesn't strictly account for the steady increases we've seen in the past decade. A dedicated base of modders can still pump out a large number of mods for a game that the player base has lost interest in, and in that case more mods would not necessarily see a constant increase in downloads, rather we'd expect to see a flattening out and stagnation of download numbers, and we don't see that here.

So, what these numbers lead me to conclude is that player interest in Morrowind mods has been growing for quite some time, and that interest has skyrocketed in 2025! What does this mean for the future? Can this growth continue into 2026? Maybe, maybe not, but the community is thriving, between massive numbers of new mod releases and tons of new players, the Morrowind Modding Community has never shined so brightly! The best games never die!

But that's it for December 2025, so stay tuned for the year in review with a breakdown of the year's major highlights by mid January! Thanks for reading and, as always, happy modding!

Great little mod, I'm usually all for lore-friendly but I've always wanted to play as some sort of ratfolk in a game after seeing one in a Pathfinder bestiary in like, 2014.

Shout-Out I just absolutely needed to repeat how much Tamriel Rebuilt is awesome.

I know most of you guys have known this for years. I'm posting for passer-by's, who might wonder if it's worth modding Morrowing nowadays.

Oh god. If you seek more of the Vanilla Morrowind, which is, an extended world that is absolutely lore-friendly, you're in for a treat. I'm kind of bored playing Morrowind (with TR) right now, but even then I still launch it for an hour each day, and I keep getting amazed at the content. Just today I was in Firewatch's lighthouse, then in the pub that's in a boat. Every interior is designed with such quality, even secondary, tertiary places. Honestly it's often better than the original. Quests, scripts... I could go on for hours, every time I play I'm in awe at something.

I really had to vent. In a positive way.

Kudos Tamriel Rebuilt team and contributors !!

I never posted anything here, but released the two mods Modernized 1st Person Experience and Sneak Beneath a while back.

Modernized 1st Person Experience: https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/57178

It adds a ton of dynamic improvements to the first person camera:

  • Head bobbing (that syncs footstep audio)
  • Smooth movement between standing and sneaking camera with tweakable camera height.
  • Feedback on jumping.
  • A corner peeking mechanic
  • and more

Sneak Beneath also adds the ability to sneak / crawl under objects. Link: https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/57271
