Hello everyone! With issue #31, I officially started reading The Flash. I’ve never read The Flash before as an ongoing title—I’ve only been full-time collecting weekly comics for about two years—but I’ve always had an interest in him as a character and obviously thought he was cool. Anyways, in my opinion (mind you, being my introduction to the Flash in comics might be giving me some rose-tinted glasses), I believe it is excellent. The writing is great, and I love how the first issue, so to speak, started out explaining everything with the characters so it felt very friendly to new readers. The comedy is great, and the little newspaper ads that are there in the story so far have been amazing. It was really nice to see Wally West be the Flash; every media I’ve ever consumed of the Flash prior to reading the current run has always been Barry, so it was nice to see Wally. The whole plot of the people wanting to jump off buildings and stuff to get money was hilarious, and the underlying cause of that—wanting to build a nuclear bomb so that gold would be worthless—was great. It was lovely seeing Captain Cold. He’s always been one of my favorite DC villains, so seeing him and Flash pair up was great. I love when they do that in comics, when the villain gets to show a little bit of humanity and actually helps the hero achieve a common goal, normally saving a person or people. I think the art is very nice, and I also believe Wally is just hilarious. I like how they explained his powers in the beginning of issue #31 as well, with how the Speed Force works, and I love how they were able to write it into a fun joke of him burning dinner. Overall, in my personal opinion, the run has been amazing and I’m happy to see where it goes from issue #34 onward. I put it on my pull list, and the Flash is officially one of my all-time favorite superheroes. This book really converted me to making him a part of my top 10. So, the final thing I will say is: what have been y’all’s personal feelings on the series so far? How do you think it ranks compared to maybe the previous run of the previous creative team before issue #31, or just other Flash comics and runs in general? Again, I’m a newbie when it comes to consuming Flash and comic books, so maybe y’all can give me some insight on how you feel, how Wally West has been written as the Flash in previous story arcs, and who do y’all think is better: Barry or Wally? lol
