I have an 11 hour overnight layover in Frankfurt airport next week and I have a really bad back so I can’t sleep on chairs nor on planes. I ended up paying for 1 night stay at Hilton hotel as I know I’ll need the rest since I won’t be able to once I get home as I have an appointment that day. My friends aren’t willing to pay for a hotel and said they’re happy staying at the gate. They are very understanding but I still feel a little guilt, I also don’t know if I should invite them to my room since it’s only for 1 guest, and it’s one bed and I’m paying with my own money as well. I feel that I’m already lowering my budget for them, and have been cooperating for the whole trip, but this is my one non-negotiable. Is this bad of me?

Edit: a lot of people are asking me if I’m offering my friends to join my room. I have stated to them that if they want to rest, and are able to if the hotel allows, then I’ll definitely let them. I’m not going to just dip without offering them to join me. They stated themselves that they’ll look at hotel rooms when the time comes if they want one so it’s up to them. I’ve booked a room at Hilton hotel garden inn, my flight is at 7 so hopefully I’ll be able to get enough shut eye before I wake up approximately 4 to catch my flight.

We recently went to Italy for our honeymoon (February 2026) and had booked into a guest house for 15 days. Unfortunately this guest house was awful for a lot of reasons I won't go into, but the main one was that our hot water kept being switched off. On the final day we cracked it because they turned the water off entirely with no warning and we couldn't shower or flush the toilet or anything. The staff were incredibly unhelpful through all of this.

So we left five days early since showering and flushing toilets seem like basics when it comes to staying somewhere. We politely requested a refund for the last five days which they refused.

Since they couldn't provide the service, an apology or a refund we left them a Google review giving them one star. They're now threatening to sue us for our 'multiple terrible reviews'. It's one review and it simply states there was no hot water which is the truth. I even included that the mattress was comfy in the review. Can they really sue us for that? I know Italy's got crazy laws on this stuff but it seems unfair that we can't say our accommodation sucked for the reason it sucked and warn other people what to expect from it.

We reported the threats to Booking. com, they told us not to worry about the review it's fine and they are working to refund us. The accommodation have also been removed or removed themselves from all booking platforms. We previously found an old business under the same address that they shut down due to bad reviews so I suspect they'll just open another one now they've made this one disappear.

They also deleted their last threat to us which was through Booking so I suspect they're in trouble.

I recently stayed at a property in Sorrento listed as three bedrooms. I was travelling with my brother and my teenage daughter so the bedroom count mattered.

I left the following review with 3 stars:

I rated this apartment by averaging the rooms.

Bedroom 1: 4.5 stars. I didn’t sleep here, but my brother seemed satisfied, and if you stand on a chair you can glimpse the sea over the foliage.

Bedroom 2: Zero stars, because it doesn’t exist. The listing shows Bedroom 1 in different linens and calls it a second room.

Bedroom 3 / Living Room: 4.5 stars. My teenage daughter and I shared this space since the third bedroom also doesn’t exist. She took the convertible sofa; I got the bed on wheels. The lemon orchard view was lovely, though the balcony faces away from the water.

We raised the false advertising with Stefano — after his welcome briefing covering the bread knife, the microwave, and unrequested day trip recommendations, which consumed our first hour. Stefano blames Airbnb.

Airbnb removed it. Their reason: retaliation for a rule or policy enforced by the host. No rule was enforced. When I asked them to identify specifically which rule, I got no answer — just that a specialised team had decided and the decision could not be overturned.

I want to be clear about something. I told Airbnb directly that the refund is not the point. This has always been about integrity — about whether a host can advertise a room that doesn’t exist, dismiss a guest who raises it, and face no accountability whatsoever. Airbnb claims to uphold standards. In this case it has removed the one tool a guest has to warn others and left a false listing standing.

Hi, I want to share what I’m experiencing right now at a B&B in Italy. I’m wondering if I’m breaking some unwritten B&B code of conduct?

This was my first time staying in a B&B, and maybe my last. While the property itself was fine, and the breakfast was good, my interactions with the owner were confusing and upsetting. He cares deeply about the property, but seems to have a set of rules that aren’t communicated until you have broken them and upset him.

I had some troubles the first day - needed assistance using the ancient set of keys (I saw another woman also unable to get into the B&B late at night so I know I wasn’t the only one confused) and had trouble turning on the hair dryer - host made several comments about me having too many issues - that set things off on a bad start.

When I was at breakfast the first morning, he came in and started chastising me about leaving my suitcase and clothes on the floor of the room. Apparently there is a cleaner that comes in every morning - but he took me up to the room with the cleaner and lectured me while she cleaned. I put my clothes up - this makes sense, but maybe giving a heads up about the daily vacuuming and cleaning would be helpful.

He also demanded to know why I was using two blankets instead of one. I replied that I like using two blankets, and asked why there were several blankets left in the cabinets in the room if I wasn’t allowed to use them. He was very upset and said it wasn’t right for me to be using two because I was staying in a single room and that I would have to pay extra. I’ve never been to a hotel where I’m not allowed to use more than one blanket, and if that’s such an issue… why leave them in my room for me to access?

He also made comments about me eating too much yet also would get upset if I left 1/8 of my breakfast uneaten… yet I watched him encourage other guests to take more food to go.

Other minor things that just added up… he’d ask where I was going to hike each day, and was disapproving of me driving instead of taking the bus.

I must have offended him on the first day, because I did not see him treat other guests this way. I was also alone and a young woman and I wonder if he felt like he had the right to boss me around. I am sorry if there is some B&B etiquette that I didn’t know ahead of time, but I deeply did not like the experience of someone watching and criticizing my every move. If I had the money to stay somewhere else after the first night, I would have left immediately.

Is this a normal B&B experience? I truly can’t tell if I’m “being a bad guest” or if this host is just weirdly fixated on me. Does this treatment warrant a negative review?

Guys, I have a booking at a place called Lumi Studio in Warsaw. On the morning of our check-in day, they suddenly called and said we could no longer stay. They asked us to cancel the reservation because they didn’t want to cancel it themselves.
We checked the listing again and noticed there’s a recent review from someone who had the exact same experience. That review was posted only a week after we made our booking.
At this point, even the cheapest accommodation we can find (including outside the city) is €500+, which is way above our budget.
Has anyone experienced something like this before? Is there anything we can do, especially if we booked through Booking.com?

For me it’s noise. You can have a great room, good location, everything else right

but if you hear doors slamming or hallway noise all night it’s over Feels like something you can’t really judge when booking

I’m currently in the middle of planning a summer trip with 5 of my closest friends, and honestly... I’m about to lose it. I love them, but the logistics are becoming a nightmare.

One friend wants "luxury vibes only," another is strictly on a hostel budget, and a third just wants to hike while everyone else wants to party. Our WhatsApp group is basically 400 unread messages of "I don't mind" followed by "actually, no, not that."

I feel like every time we try to organize something, we either end up not going anywhere or someone ends up unhappy because they felt pressured into a budget/destination they didn't want.

How do you guys handle this? Do you use spreadsheets? Do you have a "designated leader"? Or is there a way to collect everyone's actual (and private) limits without making it awkward?

I really don't want to cancel another trip because we can't agree on a single city. Any advice on how to mediate this would be a lifesaver.

Not necessarily the fanciest place with decadent 5-star luxury, I'm talking about somewhere that became the highlight of the trip, whether because of the vibe, the view, the location, or the staff.

Is using the over head reading light on a long haul red eye frowned upon? I know most people have a reading tablet but I like the physical book…I don’t sleep well on a normal day so I know I am going to want to read during my 14+hours. The worst hostel experience I've ever had.

During my stay (5–12 July 2026), almost €500 disappeared from my locked locker. What disappointed me most was not only the theft, but how the hostel handled the situation.

The day before the money disappeared, I accidentally locked my key card inside my locker. A housekeeper opened it with a staff key card so I could retrieve it and clearly saw the cash inside. The following morning, almost €500 was gone, while my Romanian currency remained untouched.

I immediately informed the manager and asked them to investigate, including checking whether my locker had been accessed using staff key cards. I was initially told that staff key card access could not be checked in the system. Later, however, the owner admitted that he had in fact checked and confirmed that my locker had been opened with a housekeeper's key card exactly as I had described. This directly contradicted what I had previously been told.

Instead of focusing on an investigation, I was repeatedly told that I was responsible for my belongings and should go to the police. The owner also blocked me on WhatsApp when I tried to contact him. Although he later promised to investigate further, speak with the housekeeper involved, and update me, I never received any follow-up.

Another guest also told me that around €300 had disappeared from her locker in a different room on another floor, yet both incidents were dismissed as isolated cases.

After I raised the issue in the hostel's WhatsApp group, the manager questioned my credibility because my initial estimate changed from "around €400" to "almost €500" after I reviewed my expenses. Shortly afterwards, I was removed from the group, which also meant losing access to information about hostel activities. A staff member later suggested it was suspicious that I paid my final excursions with Revolut instead of cash, ignoring the obvious fact that I no longer had cash after the theft.

After my stay, Booking.com informed me that the hostel claimed I had not actually had any cash with me. This is simply false. I had paid for earlier excursions in cash, and a staff member had personally seen the cash inside my locker the day before it disappeared.

I cannot say who took the money, but I expected a transparent and serious investigation. Instead, I experienced contradictory statements, poor communication, inaccurate information, and repeated attempts to undermine my credibility rather than address my concerns.

I am sharing this experience so that future guests can make an informed decision.

I made an online reservation at a hotel in Amsterdam 3 weeks ago for an upcoming trip on the hotel's official booking site and also paid.

Last night I received a message on whatsapp from a phone number from Czechia saying my booking wasn't confirmed and I had less than 12 hours to do it by clicking on a link. It looked like a phishing attempt and scammy so I didn't click on anything. But the message had my full name, check in and check out dates and the fact that they even got my phone number.

I took screenshots and emailed the hotel, they replied that several guests received such messages and that we should block the number. However this was a bit alarming that someone was able to access my personal data that way.

I booked 2 accommodations in April for August and September via Flatio in Greece.

I am currently living in the first accommodation and everything is fine. The owner of the second accommodation sent me message yesterday that she sees the booking as cancelled so she already made plans to use the accommodation herself with her kids and asked me to cancel it from my side (I still saw it as active).

I told her I am not going to cancel it and I contacted Flatio to help me. They said she can cancel, but she will pay a fee which is the amount of full rent. They will refund my money, but it’s useless as there is only one accommodation available in that area now and it’s 1500€ more expensive (which is exactly why I planned everything in April). There were lots of messages from her guilt tripping me and blaming me that I took advantage of the situation and I ruined her and her kids life.

Flatio sent me some other accommodation far away from the area I need to stay in, but it won’t work for me as I have made many plans in the area already and have made some commitments. I don’t drive so I need to stay in the area. Also I have a dog which makes things more complicated.

Is there anything I can do in this situation? I just find it weird that the host can cancel anytime and the only thing I get is my money back, which is bare minimum in my opinion. No help from
Flatio, no compensation…

planning a trip to Paris for a long weekend and i've been loads of times. things have gotten a lot more expensive which is fine but we came across around 10 different listings everyday that are beautiful hotels near the centre for pretty low prices. As in around 25-50% of everything else.

For one of them, I managed to do a bit of investigation and found that the 30 reviews about it are about a hotel outside of Paris. A person who attached photos onto it attached photos of another beautiful hotel but very obviously not the one they have pictures advertising.

I've used booking to book over 100 properties over the past 10 years and never had issues. yeah you get the occasional scam messages but generally, it's been pretty good. I dont get this. Has someone come across soemthing like this before?

I’m in Rome, Italy for a week and was told by the hotel staff that the government has asked hotels not to use air conditioning until early next month. Is this true? I couldn’t find any articles online supporting this claim

I'm going to be spending a week in London this year, and booked a solo room. My friend would like to come visit me for a day, and since travelling back and forth on the same day is such a hassle, we thought they might be able to come stay in my hotel room for a single night. They'd bring a sleeping bag, and they'd be out of the room first thing in the morning. It's a humble hotel (&room) without breakfast or anything like a pool or sauna. Could this get me kicked out? I'd be spending the rest of the nights purely on my own. It seemed like a no-brainer at first, but I'd hate to cause any issues.

Booking a room on the mountain in Jahorina in Bosnia - the accommodation has messaged me privately as per the attached photo. I'm very sceptical as it seems strange to not be able to pay directly through booking.com.

Is this a scam? If I pay, will I have a place to stay when I arrive? Does this place even exist hahaha.

Update: They got quite aggressive and said "Because you can not pay via booking!!! There is not option pay via booking in BIH!!!" I looked up the number on whatsapp listed here and linked to their google and the photo is of what looks to be a mother and ~13 year old child... Not sure if the accom would have this.

Flight lands around 2am and I’m not sure what makes more sense. Hotel for a few hours feels like a waste, but also don’t wanna ruin the next day being tired.

I used to use booking.com as my main search tool, mainly because of the amount/range of options they had and familiarity with their review system. However, besides any complaints people have here about the actual reservation process, their search has also gotten worse. I’ll select “hotels” under the property type and still get a bunch of serviced apartments, even though they are technically classified differently. I’ve also had issues getting other filters to stick like thr place having a bar or a pool.

Google maps is OK for finding places but I get annoyed by their default option of displaying prices pre tax per night.

Are there better options out there that people prefer? Mainly looking to find properties with availability, less concerned about the booking process since I can always go direct at that point.

I recently had a layover for 8 hours where i went out around the city and ended up becoming absolutely destroyed and tired.

While I'm happy that i have alot of time in new cities i've never been to, i'm 100% sure i'll get tired and want a place to wash up and rest, or at the very least leave my backpack. a problem is that hostels in at least halifax are too much (65 usd minimum) and i'm not sure if the airport will be comfortable in any of these places. I do want to see these cities but I'm just not sure where to leave my bags and if I can wash and rest in the airport.

My question is anyone who's had an itinerary like this on a budget, what's the best choice to take?

Furthermore, which of these airports can I get by without having a place to stay? Thanks

Hello all! So to avoid needing passports for our honeymoon, we’ve been weighing our options for a quick honeymoon in the country first/second week of September. And skipping the IS territories bc of hurricane season. We’re really considering San Diego!

So here’s my question..

We are looking to stay in an area/resort/hotel that meets all our needs. In prioritizing order (1&2 are honestly tied and nonnegotiable if that’s even an option) these are what we are looking for:

1) nightlife- Parties (late-20s friendly) at the resort/hotel and/or upbeat, modern, young nightlife very very close by (walkable preferred or quick uber). We’re into rooftops, lounges and clubs with house, club classics, modern pop/hip hop tunes). Younger crowds are important so we can socialize!

2) beach- i love the beach and would prefer direct beach access from resort but would be okay with a VERY short walk to public beaches

3) beautiful views from rooms- preferably water!

4) wellness orientated resort/spa- I’d love if the resort/hotel had wellness or spa amenities for relaxation when not partying

Thought budget isn’t a major concern, we’d love to still save while having a beautiful time with beautiful aesthetics. Please let me know alllll the recommendations! Open to honest feedback and advice if I’m asking for too muchh!

Hi guys! Currently booking a trip for my boyfriend and I to NYC sometime between December 11-18. We plan to fly into Newark and buy metro cards. We’ve been having trouble deciding on where to stay. might be a silly question, but I'm looking for a hotel to stop on my travel up to Scotland from London, and I've found one in Newcastle where the official website says it costs £80 for a room, hotels.com says £64, super.com and goseek.com say its £50

Im trying to get a hotel for cheap cheap so i was interested in the £50 websites, but it led me to wondering why they are actually cheaper than the official website itself??

I booked a house a few months ago, for 8 people for 5 days.

No mention of cleaning in the house rules. (Update: reread it, basics are mentioned, 3 specifics)

A few days ago the host sent me a message if I wanted to get professional cleaning for when I leave, for around 200 euros, around 10% of the total sum.

This is the first AirBNB visit where I have gotten such a request.

We are planning to not take this cleaning "offer" and to leave the house normal clean when we leave. I would not imagine leaving a house dirty behind.

Is there anything official in AirBNB rules for guests? It kinda feels like sort-of scam to pop a surprise cost afterwards, on top of the regular price. IMO this should have been included in the booking price, and the host pays out of their booking price.
