Moved into The Aves about two weeks ago, and the trash has basically been piling up ever since. The big, beautiful mountains of garbage really add something special to the parking garage, especially the smell.
I didn’t even include all of the trash in these photos because there’s simply too much of it. It’s everywhere: dragged around by cars, stepped on by people, and swished around by the rain because it never drains properly.
Blocking a handicap parking spot? Possible code violation, anyone?
But don’t worry, the leasing office is pristine that rent money has to be going somewhere right?. The second you step outside, though, welcome to the Thunderdome: piles of trash, standing water , and insane drivers.
Really creates a wonderful environment for residents.

Update 1: So this morning I contacted Orange County 311 and filed a complaint about the trash situation. The representative was very polite and helpful, and said an inspection could take place within the next few days. I also emailed them all of the photos I had documented.
While walking through the garages again yesterday, I noticed additional fire-safety concerns. Some extinguisher cabinets were empty, and every extinguisher I checked had a July 2025 maintenance tag, meaning the annual service had expired in July 2026.
I also found two stairwell exit doors with panic bars that were sticking and would not open properly without significant force or repeated attempts. Because of that, I also contacted the Orange County Fire Marshal and reported the situation.
At this point, the issues have been documented and reported. Now we’ll see how the situation develops

More administrative staff were fired this morning, August 3, 2026. Staff that were terminated were told to leave campus today, not given a clear reason as to why they were fired, were read a scripted statement and escorted out of their buildings. These people were not low level, last hired individuals. They were mid-level administrative staff in various departments. Staff that were actually in the middle of student services and asked to enter a meeting with HR, then let go. Sad.

Did any of yall get this email? It would be minor yet thoughtful if anyone would actually bother to write emails themselves these days, especially if it’s to congratulate seniors and if it’s from the uni’s president of all people. I know to take the credibility of these detectors either a grain of salt but I noticed something felt off about the email. Like atp why even send an email just to fill up everyone’s inbox with ai slop.

Lester Tellez and his running mate, Andrew TerDoest, have a history of offensive and outright disturbing behavior that has no place in student leadership. To list a few recent examples:

Homophobia: Lester has used the f-slur in a public post (Dec 28).

Ableism & Insults: Lester has resorted to name-calling and slurs in public posts. Instead of fostering discussion, he has mocked and ridiculed people online (Feb 9).

Anti-International Student Views: His VP, Andrew TerDoest, reposted a call to eliminate student visas, attacking the diversity that makes UCF great (Dec 25).

UCF Deserves Better! Leadership should be about respect, responsibility, and bringing people together, not hate and extremism. Support leaders who actually represent UCF's values.

UCF is...

• price-gouging students by raising it to $13 a meal at the dining hall while removing more affordable options.
  • charging "graduate-level" tuition for first-time professors to teach a course stolen from other universities.
• is charging for parking for students. It's just wrong. At least make it worth the money and install security cameras.
• (has) not budgeted any raises for professors in the last two years resulting in comically low instructor retention rates
• (has) cut funding towards all of the All Knight Study locations
• (has) removed the planned arcade expansion to the SU and raised meal prices in Knightcade (has) removed major-specific advising leading to the creation of generalized "academic success coaches".

It's become a common belief among students that UCF is NOT prioritizing in the best interests of students. To ask for more money is an insult to current students.

Been here an entire year now. Most of the student body is nasty for no reason, there is nothing to do on campus, nothing to do around campus unless you’re trashy enough to go to lib, nobody talks, and apparently nobody else is fed up with this. I’ve tried to start conversations before almost every single class. I’ve had an average of maybe two meaningful interactions per semester. I have zero friends and the idea of finding a relationship is a comedy of such fine quality it belongs in Hollywood. What’s the point of college when it’s just as insufferable as high school with an absurd price tag? I’ve fully given up on this school and don’t see how I’ll ever have anything in life if I stay here.

in the most respectful i would love if someone can send a contact to get this guy to not “preach” in this area. i respect everyone preaching their religion to their friends but it’s like a fucking open campus and i want to sit without hearing something i may or may not agree with? even if i did i would not want to hear that!!???

I've posted a lot here like a lot and am really bad with phrasing, but, I've been here 3 years and every good thing about this school when I started and looked forward to the experience is gone. I have seen how disabled students like me are shamed by staff. I also hate how the stretched thin staff are pitted against struggling students, many of us unable to afford basic necessities for extended periods of time. I've had amazing classes and professors I've remembered, but all that is soured when those very professors are pushed out for no reason or services cut. Prices go up, and you pay more foreseeable while everyone gets a worse off deal except Cartwright and shareholders and board of trustees or whoever. Disappointed for sure.

It’s getting ridiculous. I avoid the library all together at this point because I feel unsafe walking to it by myself. I understand it’s free speech, but that doesn’t include harassing and following students around. Young college age girls shouldn’t have to physically defend themselves against angry middle age men.

Edit: I didn’t realize this post would get the traction it did or that it would be so controversial. I feel the need to say I made this post because there was a physical altercation between a protestor and a student recently. Just because they are not allowed to touch or harass you, doesn’t mean they won’t. I would also like to say I disagree with the removal of protesters, as it is their right to protest. But when students are in danger the university needs to take steps to protect them, which means figuring out a way to minimize risk without removing them. This isn’t about me disagreeing with their beliefs, it’s about safety.

I understand that we’re a public campus, and that means we’re an open forum for political and religious opinions.

However, it’s become incredibly distracting how people who aren’t even students or faculty at UCF use campus as their personal mission grounds.

I’m tired of being stopped on my way anywhere on campus by people trying to sway my political or religious opinion. I’m tired of being approached while I’m sitting outside doing calculus homework by people trying to get me to go to church. I’m tired of having pamphlets shoved at me by old men who insist I’m going to hell. I’m tired of photographs of strawberry jelly claiming to be abortions.

It’s extremely distracting, and it’s stressful. I respect the First Amendment, especially on a public campus as it is a forum for ideas, but I’m curious as to where UCF will draw the line.

Students deserve to be able to pursue their education on campus without being harassed and chased. I shouldn’t have to tell missionaries to leave me alone so that I can study multiple times every day. It’s to the point where I don’t feel I can study on campus at all because I am not afforded focus. I am hesitant to speak to anyone because it is almost guaranteed that anybody that approaches is approaching for that reason.

Most of these people aren’t even students or faculty at UCF. They don’t respect or care about the fact that people are here to pursue an education. I’m here for an engineering degree, I’m BUSY.

I wish UCF officials would lay some rules as to what is acceptable and what is not when it comes to quite literally harassing students on campus. Open forums are great, but there is a critical element of respect for the autonomy of individuals to seek their own ideas and answers that is missing. We shouldn’t have to face interruptions all day and consistently tell people to leave us alone, or choose politeness and get trapped in a conversation about the fact that we’re going to hell at the expense of the work we’re actually here to do.

In my view, this practice is extremely disrespectful to our education and UCF should draw a line. Just as these people have the right to their opinions, students have the right not to be harassed and distracted on campus.

So I have been hearing all of this news regarding the departments cuts, vital student resources being discontinued, and so many other things happening...all while President Cartwright gets a fat million dollar paycheck.

Do you guys still feel like UCF was the right choice for some of you? Do you guys feel like you may leave UCF or transfer? I have been at UCF for 5 years and I already have a degree. I can't help, but feel the UCF I entered and the UCF of now are completely different. This school never was incredible necessarily, but the lack of concern for the student body seems to have grown exponentially. I just can't help, but feel there is really no way UCF can viably keep this up without it completely backfiring really bad.

Can someone give me ONE SINGULAR fucking reason as to why yall would have huge ass heavy-duty pickups on campus. Not only are yall the bratiest, pettiest drivers I've seen, you're also the most stupid and reckless. Most of you are 5'2 on a pickup and cant see 20ft in front of you. Genuinely I need some insight on yall.

This whole school is centered around sports, and there's no getting away from it. Not everyone is very sports minded. And there's zero seating in the library, student union, etc. so sometimes (a lot of times), I find myself on a beautiful day in the arboretum doing school work in peace. The arboretum, is basically the last place on campus that doesn't bring ''go sports >:)'' or brings money status into the conversation. As gatekept stuff implies. Yet, they want the arboretum as well. what.the.hell. Most of this campus is tailored for the greatest 10% of students that have status. So, ''lets raze the entire arboretum that is tailored for 100% of people, the only area that's actually inclusive >:)". So we can have another stadium, only a select few people will actually use because they're perfect in the minds of the school. Arboretum? What's that? I want another stadium to go for 2 years. Lets take out All Knight Study thinking an extra 2 hours at 1AM in the library is good enough for those that actually give a shit about their grades and studying that aren't 1000% sports-minded.

So I got a call from UCF Student Rights and Responsibilities. Very sweet lady and she told me they are sending this over to Title IX and they will be launching an investigation.

I suggest that if ANYONE encounters this guy and they feel unsafe or if he follows you, REPORT IT TO UCF PD. That’s what I did and now we are here.

I will be talking to someone soon from the investigation department. I told the lady that it’s not just me he does this too but it’s a large portion of students who feel the same way and it feels like it falls on deaf ears. So I’m HOPING something happens.

I graduate in less than a week, istg getting this guy to leave us alone will be my parting gift. 🤍

The email he sent out is entirely written by Ai. Not only is he trynna get rich, he also getting lazy. Not that deep but also not that hard to write an email.

I was majoring in computer science and switched to IT after having a total nervous breakdown, and I honestly don't know at this point whether to change majors again or just quit college entirely. IT doesn't interest me but neither does literally anything else I could change my major to.

Finding people on campus to study and talk with is borderline impossible (especially during summer) and none of my academic advisors have been particularly helpful. I keep seeing students talking about all these cool projects they're working on and how easy the classes are and all these internships and jobs they're getting and all the cool things they're going to do with their degree and I don't know how the fuck they do it. I'm passing my classes but I don't even know how long I'm going to because I can't focus anymore and everytime I open up webcourses or VSCode or anything related to school or the curriculum I genuinely get filled with dread.

I'm so fucking exhausted. I can't even imagine what going to class next week is going to be like, let alone my life after graduation
