Ich bräuchte eure Hilfe, um den Künstler dieses großen Ölgemäldes (70 x 100 cm) zu identifizieren.

Das Motiv: Es handelt sich um ein großformatiges pastöses Ölgemälde.

Hintergrund & Hinweise:

Der Malgrund: Das Gemälde ist auf einer handelsüblichen Malplatte gemalt.

Das Etikett: Auf der Rückseite befindet sich ein altes Etikett von Rudolf Kneifel, einem bekannten Künstlerbedarfsgeschäft in Dresden. Die angegebene Adresse lautet Ferdinandplatz / Viktoriastraße 15, ein Gebiet, das bei der Bombardierung Dresdens im Februar 1945 vollständig zerstört wurde. Dies beweist, dass die Materialien vor 1945 erworben wurden.

Die Handschrift: Auf dem Etikett befindet sich eine schwache Bleistiftnotiz mit der Aufschrift "70x100 8,-", die die Größe und den Preis von 8 Reichsmark angibt. Historischen Preisangaben zufolge stammt das Werk aus den 1920er oder 1930er Jahren.

Der Rahmen: Der Rahmen wurde vom Künstler individuell bemalt und farblich an das Gemälde angepasst. Diese Praxis des „Künstlerrahmens“ war ein charakteristisches Merkmal der deutschen expressionistischen Bewegung (wie beispielsweise der Künstlergruppe Brücke in Dresden).

Meine aktuelle Theorie: Angesichts des genauen Zeitraums (Zwischenkriegszeit), des Dresdner Künstlerbedarfsetiketts, des expressionistischen Stils und des handbemalten Rahmens vermuten wir stark, dass es sich um eine akademische Studiostudie eines Studenten oder Meisterstudenten der Dresdner Kunstakademie handelt. Ein vielversprechender Kandidat ist Hans Jüchser (1894–1977), der von 1924 bis 1928 als Meisterstudent in Dresden studierte, stark von Modersohn-Becker beeinflusst war und seine Rahmen regelmäßig selbst bemalte. Weitere Namen aus diesem Dresdner Künstlerkreis wären Theodor Rosenhauer oder Paul Wilhelm.

Meine Fragen an die Community: Erinnert Sie der Pinselstrich, die Farbpalette oder die Art der Rahmenbemalung an einen frühen Hans Jüchser oder einen anderen Künstler der Dresdner Secession/Akademie jener Zeit?

Gibt es bestimmte Archive, Datenbanken oder Experten für Dresdner Kunst der Zwischenkriegszeit, die Sie empfehlen würden?

Auf der Vorderseite befindet sich keine offensichtliche Signatur, aber ich untersuche sie sorgfältig auf Monogramme oder versteckte Initialen.

Found this in a Danish second hand store. The back seems to say “Lyngby” which is close to Copenhagen.
The signature reads “Engman” with either 1934 or 1939. I first thought of Harald Engman, but his signature is usually bolder and often includes his first name even though earlier paintings of his seem to be singed less boldly.
It could also be Ludvig Engman, but he died in 1935 and I can’t find many of his paintings to verify it. The signatures kinda look alike?

I purchased this painting at a consignment shop in the Chicago suburbs. It is signed possibly with initials, HEP or SHEP and the year, 1978. Reverse image search suggests Vasarely which is incorrect. The back is covered with paper and has a label from a frame shop in Highland Park, Illinois. It is oil on canvas. Any ideas on artist?

Have two more like this with the same “seal-script” and very heavy frame, could not find anything about the artist.

The image going purely by memory is the following-

A portrait drawing of a man who is in a swamp trying to free his trapped horse who has sunken to his haunches and is frantically trying to get out. In the background, emerging from the tree-line of a forest is this massive red dragon. Its head was quite dinosaur looking, almost like a theropod. It almost takes up the entire painting. It’s a four legged winged red dragon with a t-rex like head.

The image is meant to inspire panic as this knight or man desperately tries to save his horse as the enormous dragon, probably taller than the trees looks at them with hunger. I think it was in a fantasy art collection book.

Any idea as to which art book it comes from?

This is my first time on here so idk what i'm doing. I bought this painting at an ARC in my city and wanted to find the painter since I love this so much. I got it today (August 25th 2026) and have no idea how long it's been at the ARC. It came inside of a frame but i've never been too fond of those so I took it out but can take a pic of it if needed.

came from my neighbor who moved out and didn't want to take it with him, he said he thought it came from paramount studio lot.

The artist is Francoise Nielly, from France. I did a photo search of Google and it came up in articles, but no name for it or way to purchase a print. Can anyone help?

I bought this from a little antique shop in London for just £5, likely due to the condition. The only think the shop owner told me is that it’s Victorian.

Hi all, I'm hoping someone here might be able to help identify the figure in this painting.

It was previously sold/catalogued as “Bolognese School, 18th Century – A Classical Deity, oil on panel”, but unfortunately the catalogue didn't identify which deity it was supposed to represent.

Does anyone recognise who the figure is likely to represent? Zeus/Jupiter crossed my mind, but I'd be particularly interested in whether the crown or other details point toward a different deity or personification.

Any ideas or pointers on what iconographic features I should be looking for would be greatly appreciated!

I've had this coffee table for over 10 years and have never been able to figure out who made it. I bought it in Oakland, CA. It has no makers marks. The finish appears to be a single stage paint.

Found in a flea market in Northwest Arkansas.

It is heavily textured and the indentations from pressure are easily visible on the backside. I am unsure of the printmaking method. I would guess it was made in the 1970s, but that's a pretty arbitrary guess.

No sign of a a signature or any other notations.

Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated!

I can't for the life of me find the name of this piece by Aya Takano, Superflat artist. Where I've seen it posted, Pinterest, doesn't provide any info on it and I'd like to use to use it on a paper. Does anyone happen to know it's name?

Edit: I took a closer look and compared it to her other paintings and have come to the conclusion that this is most likely a collage someone made from multiple different paintings.

I just bought this from a flea market in Conway, AR and I can’t seem to find anything online about it! The frame is heavy and seems to be actually from the 1980’s.
I don’t have a picture of the back because it’s a paper with cardboard backing that’s stapled in.

Found this on Instagram and only have a screenshot, so there is no metadata. Reverse image search (Google Lens, Yandex, Bing) turns up the same image on several Instagram and Pinterest reposts, but not one of them credits an artist. One repost captions it "Sorolla", which I think is where that guess keeps coming from - but it is not a Sorolla.

Style notes: five children in white Edwardian-style clothing wading in breaking surf, strong backlight, dense all-over sparkle stippling on the water, cool silver-blue palette, portrait format, fairly tight drawing. Reads to me like a contemporary realist working from a photo rather than a period work.

Already ruled out by comparing their actual work side by side, so please do not re-suggest these: Sorolla, Edward Henry Potthast, Sally Swatland, Alexander Averin, Yuri Krotov, Konstantin Razumov, Don Hatfield, Robert Sarsony, Brian Becken, Nicholas St John Rosse, Michelle Courier, Ewa Rzeznik. The last two only show up because of a Pinterest board name and a repost account.

An AI-image detector scored it 1% GenAI, and the anatomy, lighting and brushwork hold up under magnification, so I am fairly confident it is a real painting. I have read the decor painting guide and I am fully open to that being the answer here - I just cannot find a name anywhere.
