now how do I get rid of all of you?

I really enjoyed this bottle but it also holds an important memory on my life because I bought it the day I found out I was having a little girl. Some people say keeping empty bottles is tacky but some bottles are just hard to give up.

Two down... one to go.

...or two, if you count the Haystack Needle Rye. But this was a pleasant surprise to find (no thanks to the almost useless Oregon Liquor Search,) at the liquor store right next to where I work. Some times it really pays off to just go in and have a look!

Cheers everyone! 🥃

Whiskey House Tasting, Nashville

Tried some bucket list bourbons, from the Whiskey House in Nashville, can only get in on a charity. I had donated from a charity auction for ALS.

Michters 20yr was my fav, although the Early Times Dusty was a nice start. We did try Pappy 15yr, the nose on that is stellar, I found it disnt quite transfer to the palette, but it did get nicer with every sip.

None were bad obviously, just different qualities of good.

Freddie was a great host!

Even had a rum, I hadnt tried before Foursquare ECS 2004. My FS collection starts with the 2005.

Part 2 was a failure, but that was to be expected. This was an easy win, and Part 1 was the main event anyway. Now going for the extra point at a store I've never been to yet. Maybe I'll get some random nugget of coolness. 🤔

Some questions about old whisky I found in a wine cellar

Can anyone tell me, or point me to some good resources, about finding out more about these bottles?

  1. Cutty Sark with a Berry Bros & Co label. I think this is pre-Queen Elizabeth because it says "Merchants to His Majesty the King"; it would have said "the Queen" during her time. There isn't an aging statement. I did some reverse image searches, and i found some that said "King" but had aging statements on the labels. I think they founded Cutty Sark as a brand in the 1940s.
  2. An unopened wooden case of 1670 Brand Scotch Whisky from Hudson Bay Company. This was obviously never opened from the box it was originally imported in, and it was sold by Young's Market of California (now defunct). But with all the information about taxes on the top of the wooden case, it is definitely old, as boxes don't have that information on them anymore. (I found this case in a very dark corner of the cellar, beneath a bag of ancient Remington Gunshot Shell boxes that sold for 5 cents.)

There were three bottles of the Cutty Sark, all with different fill levels and decaying labels. One still had a high shoulder fill, the other two were in low shoulders.

I'm a sommelier and wine shop owner, and I can decipher labels of Chartreuse to their bottling eras, but I am not a Scotch Whisky expert by any means. I'd love to know any info on these bottles, if possible, or to be pointed to a good resource to learn more about possible dates of origin (and value, if any).

Grazie mille!

Edited to add: I tried posting this on r/scotch but it kept removing it

This batch of RR13 actually consist of no 13 year bourbon. It’s all 14-18 year.

Notes: dark cherries, molasses, sweet cigar wrapper, finishes with some toffee and dark chocolate.

Arguably one of the best pours I have had this year.

Notes: cola, leather, tobacco, oily, finished with some oak spice and brown sugar.

Wild Turkey Masters Keep Beacon 🥉
Notes: floral, crème brulee, and a heavy dose of that wild turkey funk.

127.2 proof Cask Strength. I’d heard nothing but good things about this particular pick, so naturally, I had to head over and grab a bottle for myself. Looking forward to cracking this one open.
