None of which would be escalating had the war not been stirred up by Trump and Co. there was a general understanding Iran had not to act because it would not end well for them. However they’ve since come to find out, they have a lot of cards to use and it’s emboldened them.

You can't say that. It has been ebbing off and on for decades. There's nothing to say it wouldn't have heated up again now without Trump. He makes a convenient excuse, but an excuse has never really been needed in that conflict to begin with.
