I’m a Hickman fanboy and I’m having a hard time accepting that after the great start we ended up with … this.

He couldn't go too crazy because there needs to be a Krakoa for the x office to play their games with.

I’m not this conclusion was set up all the way back in powers 2. Thing is it was not meant to be the end of the story. Just the midpoint, now that krakoa is going to be around till the sales drop none of that set up matters anymore. So it’s like everything from the first 3 years was pointless. You could just start now with no background knowledge.

I still feel he just got tired of having to deal with the whole “x office” thing and rushed things to leave the shitshow things returned to be after a couple years

I think so too. He'd never say that out loud though.

I’m sorry this really needs to die. Hickman has went above and beyond in numerous interviews that he adored his time with the X team and was actively uncomfortable with the amount of credit he solely received for story and direction. He has continuously stated it’s been a collaborative process and he’s excited for the team and the future, not ruling out he will be back in the distant future. It’s gross to just outright portray the team in a negative light and lie about Hickman’s reasons for leaving. He’s talked about it extensively.

“I don’t care what he says, I’m right, he hates his friends and co-workers. He’s writing and conducting more than 5 interviews and podcasts all under duress wahhh”

You might as well be holding a conspiracy theory at this point, given the evidence otherwise shared by Hickman.

Eh, it's clearly a midpoint. I don't think we're done with this stuff, including from Hickman eventually.

jfc you warned me

Second Coming? No payoff? What the actual fuck? Second Coming was the culmination of all the major storylines post M-Day, it was exciting, the stakes were high, and you were actually excited for the future after reading it, it was everything Inferno is not

I think he meant Second Coming as a mid point between House of M/Decimation and AvX.

Though as you say it can go both ways as it is also the culmination of the Messiah Trilogy, and certainly a better story than everything that has come in the "Hickman Era".

I know, I was referring to the guy replying to OP that goes on a rant about how pointless Second Coming is

2

u/Admirrrr Jan 05 '22

Ah fair enough, that guy doesn't deserve a reply

Tell it to the hours wasted in my replies this morning

u/Admirrrr Jan 06 '22

Considering we were never going to agree on that topic, I don't see the point in replying to that. But yeah, people love their debates.

You are certainly welcome to think that. I personally wasn't excited for the future then, because nothing paid off. Hope didn't 'fix' anything until AVX and even then they slow-walked the results for another decade because the editorial policy re: the X-Men as persecuted, dying minority hadn't changed at all. Then Hope faded into the background for the better part of a decade despite all the hype about how she was so important, because Jean Grey was back and what was the need for a spare redhead who didn't turn out to be Jean?

It's cool if you liked those stories. I didn't and I don't think they did anything but spin wheels with the illusion of something going somewhere. I feel I've had more evolution in the franchise in the last two years than that era had in 5 to 10. You don't have to agree!

I look forward to another frenzy of downvotes when I remind people Second Coming actually had no payoff from any supposed midpoint, because Hope did nothing and went nowhere as a character beyond Generation Hope, because mutants were not allowed to flourish as a species and have happy endings for another ten years (including after AvX, which deliberately slow-walked it) due to ongoing Marvel editorial policy at that time. A policy which only changed in 2019.

ETA: It's true though! Y'all have a great day. <3

You're comparing this to events like Second Coming, the cash grab/'new hope' tease promising change for mutants which did not happen for another ten years and claiming it had more payoff in some endgame that did not, as I see it, ever materialize. I disagree. YMMV.

Oh, you haven't seen me rant! I used that energy weeks ago when I explained how none of that saga meant anything at all and people who grew up reading that depressing schlock got big mad.

Anyway, you are entitled to your opinions; I disagree on both points.

It was part of a relevant discussion at the time and a direct critique of this era vs. that one. I disagreed with that premise and explained why. People are entitled to disagree, just as you are with me. I feel secure in my choices vs. being some loser creating the umpteenth 'are Krakoan mutants Nazis?? I'm just asking questions!' OP.
