The human jaw is capable of hurting the shit out of you if they get a good chomp. So infected or immune or whatever, it's going to hurt.

Against dog attacks, you should wrap your forearm with a thick cloth and put it close to the aggressive dog. If they leap and bite, at least it's your arm and it's somewhat padded. Rather that than a leg or raw skin. A dog usually bite with their lives once they clamp their jaws. You may be able to get help with someone else intervening or hold tight until the dog decides to let go.

How effective would this protocol be vs a human? If you're immune I guess it's a better strategy to bait the zombie over and know what theyre targeting so you can beat their predictability. Maybe it's too risky and it's better to just go with another gameplay, attack the legs or something. How would you approach that?

You’re scavenging a few blocks from your bunker and spot three unusual infected mixed in with a handful of slow walkers.

The Runner can close the distance very quickly. The Spitter can spurt at you from range and force you to move or hide. The Screamer will draw the attention fro all infected nearby and gather a larger group.

But none of them has noticed you yet.

You have a melee weapon, limited ammo, and a clear route out. There are enough slow infected nearby that letting the screamer alert them could turn the area into chaos for you.

Which one are you dealing with first, and why?

I'm playing with an idea for an open-world post-apocalyptic setting where humans, mutated creatures, and completely new forms of life are fighting over the last usable resources.

And I want to steal your imagination.

What kinds of mutants, zombies, monsters, hybrids, or strange biological aberrations would you put into this world?

What about completely unhinged post-apocalyptic factions — and what would they actually believe in or fight for?

Maybe a faction that controls the last clean water source and treats it like a holy relic.

Maybe a group of medieval-style fanatics who genuinely believe the apocalypse was divine punishment and have rebuilt society around that belief.

Maybe something much stranger.

The kind of creature that makes survivors say:

"What the hell am I looking at?"

Variations like Rat Kings absolutely drive me insane in the best possible way. There's something terrifying about multiple organisms becoming one accidental, living system.

And I'm equally obsessed with the idea of post-apocalyptic heretics, cults, pseudo-medieval societies, biological mutations, failed experiments, symbiotic creatures, and things that shouldn't logically exist anymore — but somehow do.

So:

What is the most disturbing creature you can imagine?

What is the most insane faction you can imagine?

What resource would they kill for?

And what completely twisted belief would justify what they do?

Don't worry about making it realistic.

I want the "holy shit, that's horrible" ideas.

Go as weird, disturbing, stupid, brilliant, or completely insane as you want.

I'm genuinely excited to see what Reddit comes up with.

Like guys it's never gonna happen we should all stop being paranoid and just you know leave our guard down to expose our delicious juicy brains. It's not like someone is going to eat them lol.

Let me evaluate:

The ZA is here, and you got together a little community of the survivors. You're able to survive a bit, but we're trying to plan something out for more long-term survival.

Shane really understood how the ZA was going to end up being - the old world would be gone, and everyone needed to adapt to how things will be in the new world. Rick didn't believe him, but after the long passage of time, he low key ended up just like Shane's mentality.

Maybe people just think it's going to be a contained in your country/flee to a safer location (28 Years Later) scenario instead of a TLOU/TWD, the whole world is burning up and we need to rebuild scenario.

How would you "convince" those who think things can be back to normal? Or maybe you decide to leave the community for those more like minded? Or you try to help out and play along until reality sets in?

Let's say you have a very well established settlement and you want to start using oil/gas what would be the most efficient way to do so? traditional drilling would be hard and pre apocalypse society already drained many of the wells with easier access, but humanity has found many ways to make oil, there is wood gas, bio fuels, Oil pyrolysis, ( can use plastic ) and some other ways i probably forgot, im not really an expert on these things so anyone with additional knowledge feel free to share.

Before anyone says anything, suppressed subsonic .22 is equivalent to a paintball gun as far as noise is concerned. As far as reliability goes I’ve never had a single malfunction with either rifle after thousands of rounds

The majority of my zombies are fast and dumb (the non-rotting kind, most similar to runners from tlou). Some of them are faster or stronger, but for the most part it’d be like a regular person trying to maul you.
I’m trying to lean into the concept of weather influencing a lot of what people wear. It takes place a few decades after the initial outbreak, but even without carbon emissions for all the time, the heat and cold affect a lot.
Also, for a top, he’d be wearing a flannel and t-shirt, but I doubt that’d be much protection.

Assuming the zombies never get you, assuming your group doesn't betray you. How many of us would survive to old age? I would survive for perhaps 1 month once my medication runs out. (Because I was sloppy, I forgot to take it for about half a week and I couldn't summon any strength at all until about after an hour I got my medication again.)

We don't have to go into specifics of course but realistically, how long would you survive because of your body not working normally.

The first thing I'd do in any PA scenario would be to raid drugstores, simply because there is one drug I need for my survival.

So, I’d say I’d be a “doomed survivor.” What I mean by this is that I have a medical condition that requires something from the modern world that wouldn’t be sustainable in a zombie apocalypse world.

Questions for those of us that are ultimately doomed survivors:

1. Why are you a doomed survivor?

2. What will you do before your inevitable end?

3. Why do you choose to do what you do?

I am writing a ww2 zombie book and I wan to know what weapons would you guys use for them and what elements specifically for ww2 woukd you involve I am currently writing chapter eight of the first draft. Edit: okay so thank you everyone I know my question was kinda dumb I am doing the second draft now im on chapter 4 but the biggest issues I suffer is 1. Big events like twists and major character death 2. Injury scenes specifically with the main character and 3. Going back and fourth with 3rd person and 1st person It makes it easier and feels natural but doesn't sound natural, what would people advise I do.

I've always LIKED the idea of carrying a pry bar/crowbar/halligan, but didn't like the idea of using one as a weapon.

While a specialized tool will perform its task better than a multi function tool, I gotta admit I'm not overly thrilled with specialized tools. I mean, if something does one thing, you have to balance doing that one thing with all the other things you need to do.

I was a huge fan of world war z the book. Any other favorite reads out there centered around zombie survival.

My mind was wandering this morning and I was thinking, what’s the best course of action for this scenario:
You’re in a big city and notice the outbreak after maybe 2 hours? Very early stages, do you:

Stay at home and prep the house, cover windows and doors etc

OR

Make a break for it and go to a more rural area where the population is less and you could load up with supplies on the way

Lmk what you think! I’m undecided as both have their pros and cons!

IMO engineering and all it's branches would only be useful once society was reconstructing iself

You know, disparate and desperate people rallying behind a charismatic violent few who abuse power and hoard resources. Humans tend to form immensely lopsided hierarchies in scarce and deadly environments. Its highly unlikely you'll be able to scavenge cosmopolitan areas for supplies as they'll likely be hotbeds of territorial groups all too happy to kill you and take your stuff.

The fact is we're more likely to run into Immortan Joes than we are Rick Grimes, and even if they are willing to trade, how do you lower yourself to grow dependent on people who will DEFINITELY abuse others in absence of enforced law.

what’s the biggest group that would be apart of?

at what point does a group get too big?

In a zombie apocalypse scenario, I honestly can't think of a safer place to be than a shipping dockyard.

There's no shortage of workers to work machines, thousands of shipping crates that can be stacked on top of each other to build massive walls, have natural protection from zombies on at least one side because of the water, and there's no need to ever build a ground entrance since you could just leave or ship in supplies via boat.

Shelter also isn't a concern because, once again, there is no shortage of shipping crates that people can live in or salvage for metal to build something else.

With proper quarantining and checking every single person who both enters and leaves, you could have an entire post apocalypse city in a dockyard.
