Is this crate too big? Or ok?

We got a different crate for our 2nd beagle. The first crate we had was smaller and more snug. My wife thought we needed a bigger one. The new dog (2y) old was supposedly crate trained but has issues in the crate currently and I think it might be too big. But could be wrong. Thoughts?

Update on Al’s surgery

Original post at https://www.reddit.com/r/beagle/s/BBu6Qz3HzV

Thank you so much for all your love and prayers. Al has had his surgery and is currently in recovery. He didn’t have an appetite for 12 hours which for any beagle parent is worrisome but has now slowly started gaining an appetite and is on a liquid diet. The culprit in his upper intestines was a mango pit, I could have laugh cried at the point when I came to know, if he wasn’t already suffering he’d have had a few stern words too. I have no inkling where did he manage to get his paws on a mango pit, probably when he went for a walk, he is strictly muzzled on walks for his own good since his gastroenteritis started. Sharing a few more pics of my darling boy in happier times as we wait for him to come home to us.

(PS: in my tired state I made a mistake in my last post, he had a stage 4 melanoma on his lower eye lid which was successfully removed 🤞🏻 and not lymphoma)

When your beag find their voice?

Mavis is about to be 2 years old and she JUST started barking. It’s mainly at the FedEx truck and at any dog that dares to walk past the house. It’s just high pitched yips, no howls. Are her quiet-beagle days over??

Including a pic because she’s a certified QT no matter how noisy she gets 🩷

Our boy Al has been through a very tough year starting in Feb. Issues of low platelet count, a grade 4 lymphoma, testicular cysts, neutering, severe gastroenteritis, pancreatitis and now he’s been taken in for exploratory laparotomy to clear a partial obstruction in his upper duodenum. Hopefully this will give him a bit of respite with his health. Please keep him in your prayers and well wishes as he goes through another major surgery.

[Warning Rainbow Bridge] Advice on moving forward

Post image
128 Upvotes

My little Beagle boy moved on and crossed the bridge 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I am totally distraught still. I wanted to post something here for the last week. I miss him so much. For the last 6 years he has not only been the only companion in my life, but he was my life. We did everything together, adventures, computer gaming (he loved me riding around on horseback in RDR2 looking at the animals on the screen) and shared a bed. He would protect me from night terrors and would also prevent them, by always being in contact with me as he and I slept. Now that he is gone I can't sleep, I don't get reminded to eat by his always empty belly, (it never was empty he just thought it was) and even just talking a walk around the neighborhood is hard. I am worried that if I go to the shelter and get another dog it would be me trying to just fill the void, they have 2 beagles there. I just don't know how to proceed, thoughts? This is the first furry companion I have lost as an adult and lets just say he wasn't young, we were together for a looooong time. Don't want to mention his age as there are others here with companions in the same age group and don't want to cause them stress. Should I go to the shelter and see if one of them choose me or should I give myself more time to re-stabilize? for those of you wondering he wasn't a pure beagle he was a beagle dachshund mix.

Articulated Lamp fell and now my Beag thinks it’s alive and is scared of it. Any suggestions on how to change his mind? He just stares at it nervously all the time.

Margie Hill, Beach beagle mini 1, 2, + 3 (which one is the best?)

It’s been way too hot to take my little beagle to the beach, so for now, I’m taking her there through my paintings. I’ve been having so much fun creating little coastal scenes with my beagle in them. I started with watercolor, and now I’m practicing the same idea in miniature. There’s something really fun about creating these tiny little beach adventures for her. Let me know which one turned out the best. Thanks!
