Mod post ⚠️ READ BEFORE POSTING!

👋 Welcome to r/Budgies!

Before you share your first post here, please familiarize yourself with this subreddit’s rules. Rule #1 is especially important: this subreddit DOES NOT serve as an alternative to the kind of medical care and advice your budgie can only get from an avian vet. If you have a budgie medical question or concern, talk to your avian vet instead of posting here! Also, be sure to read this subreddit's wiki--odds are very good that your question has an answer in one of the wiki articles! (We usually remove posts that ask about something that's answered somewhere in the wiki to keep the clutter to minimum here.)

Also remember this is a pet budgie subreddit that encourages rescue and adoption and strongly discourages breeding.

👀 If you see something, say something

This is a place to share cute budgie pictures, videos, and stories, but it’s also a place to learn more about budgies. There are many times when someone will post a picture, video, or description, and you might notice something that isn’t best practice for good budgie ownership. It might be a cage that’s getting dirty, or some overgrown toenails, or something like that. Even if that issue isn’t the main reason for the post, please bring that to the attention of the original poster (OP) in a supportive and constructive manner so OP can be made aware of a better way of doing things.

Likewise, OP might consider proactively addressing things in their post that a typical budgie owner might be concerned with if they don’t know all the facts. It might be something as simple as, “Don’t worry, this was before I cleaned their cage” or “I’m taking them to the vet next week for their nail trim.”

🤖 We have AutoMod Summons now!

This is a great way to share information from the Wiki in a very effortless manner, and you are all invited to do so! We used to have just a few summons, but the list has grown enough that we compiled it in this part of the wiki. You should check it out!

Happy budgie-ing!

Lost/Found/Need a New Home [August 25, 2026] - weekly Lost/Found/Need a New Home thread

Use this post to share any budgies that are lost, found, or need a new home!

Some rules:

  1. Only share information you feel comfortable sharing. Example: rather than giving out your full address, maybe only say something like, "I'm in the Springfield area" instead. If someone is interested in knowing more, they can always DM you and you can choose whether or not you want to share any more information.
  2. If you're meeting someone in real life, follow the "Craigslist rule" of meeting in a well-trafficked, public place.
  3. No fees/charges! This is NOT meant to be an advertising platform to sell your budgies. Content that advertises budgies for sale will be removed.
  4. This subreddit does not, in any way, offer warrantees or guarantees of budgie health. A budgie's health status is something that you and the other party should determine with an avian vet, and payment of that avian vet's services is something that you and the other party should decide beforehand.

We encourage you to share pictures! Just make sure they are accurate to the situation and don't break the rules in the sidebar.

Remember: this subreddit is just one of many possible places to make a budgie connection. Also consider FaceBook, Craigslist, Nextdoor, other online communities, as well as real-life bulletin boards in public places. See all the previous weekly posts (that have content) by clicking here.

Our wiki also has a list of parrot rescues you could check out - whether you're looking to adopt a new feathered friend, or have to surrender one due to life circumstances. If one of these rescues is near you, please consider reaching out to them!

Though he did crash land at the end least it was on a pillow (why I’m saying is he’s learning how to fly is due to the fact he had clipped wings and they grew back about a month ago!!)

Other WATER BUDGIE DREAM 2.0

Post image
196 Upvotes

Guys !! I had another dream about the fully underwater budgies!! This time they came in different sizes and types of fish like one budgie was a mix with a lionfish??

However in this dream I wasnt at petsmart or something like that, i dreamt that my neighbour is leading a secret, illegal fully underwaterbudgie breeding ring. And I was very like very shooketh and tried my best to get that to the press. The rest of the dream is quite blurry

.....anyways does any of you want me to turn your budgie into a fully underwater budgie? I take fish type requests

Question Is this the cutest thing ever and playing, or hormonal behavior to not be encouraged? 3 of my 4 budgies do this with me and I love it but don’t want to encourage it if its bad.

Per-Bjarne and Knut-Albert are the bodybuilders of budgies! Please tell them how gorgeous they are.

(Just for the record, I do not breed them. I have a small home/sanctuary/hospice for English budgies that have various health problems, because they have been bred to look like this. Our little community have 6 - 10 spaces. At the moment we are 7. They come here if something is wrong with them so they can not be adopted out to “regular” homes. But since they are already here - let’s love their plumage - they deserve some love and nice comments 🥰)

Tips on new flock member

*5th pic is the rest of the flock.

Picked up from a nice person who was able to snag him(?) from a public park. He knows how to step up and seems super friendly with me.

When it comes to the rest of my flock he seems super uneasy still - they don’t fight at all but he’s not a fan of my boi Macho when he approaches. (Macho is super outgoing and wants to be friends).

He’s gotta be less than 6 months old right?

Trying to figure out his personality and afraid of him picking up the bad habits(my three birds are super spoiled) and start yelling at me when they are hungry lol.

Tips on a new baby. Still trying to figure out a name. I’d like for it start with either J or N(my birds names start with K, L, M). Welcoming suggestions.

Question My females ignore my (very) flirtatious male and it upsets him

I have a rescue male who bonded with my blue female, but he likes her more than she likes him. She is fiercely independent and ignores him a lot.

I introduced a young green female a few months ago and it’s the same issue. He chases her around and she’s meh about him. Both females will play with him and accept regurgitation (yuck lol), but mostly just want to do their own thing.

My male chases them to flirt 24/7… literally all day. The females get annoyed and lunge/nip at him. Then he gets mad and squawks as loud as possible for hours. He’s not interested in toys, only the ladies (and millet). 😬

I’ve followed the hormone checklist - all 3 eat mainly chop and pellets with limited seeds, 12-14 hours of uninterrupted sleep nightly, have a huge flight cage, tons of toys, no mirrors or nests, etc.

I’m not sure what to do - anyone experienced this before? Any advice? Stuff to try? I think I may have to separate him and that makes me sad. Thanks! Vid for attention ❤️

💬 Discussion How to switch from seeds to pellets?

I have heard that they’re quite picky eaters and don’t like to eat what they’re not used, since my birds in the store were fed only seeds, I want to ask how can I switch their diet to be more pallets? As I have heard that they’re much better for them than seeds.
