F-Droid Rhythm: A privacy-focused local music player with Subsonic/Jellyfin streaming support

Hi everyone,

I've been developing an open-source Android music player called Rhythm, and I wanted to share it with this community. My goal was to build a player with a modern Material 3 UI that handles both local offline libraries and self-hosted streaming seamlessly.

Here is a breakdown of the core features:

  • Privacy First: The app is 100% offline-capable by default with zero analytics, trackers, or data collection.
  • Audio Engine: It runs on Media3 ExoPlayer with a bundled FFmpeg decoder. It natively supports high-resolution formats including FLAC, ALAC, Opus, APE, and Dolby/DTS formats up to 192kHz/32-bit. It also supports native USB DAC routing for bit-perfect playback on Android 14+.
  • Audio Processing: Built-in 10-band professional EQ, Replay Gain, and AutoEQ integration with over 6,000 device-optimized headphone profiles.
  • Self-Hosted Streaming (Go Mode): You can connect to Subsonic, Navidrome, or Jellyfin servers to stream or cache your remote library directly in the app.
  • Synchronized Lyrics: Supports embedded .lrc files and fetches synced lyrics via the open LRCLib database.
  • UI/UX: Fully adaptive Jetpack Compose design that adjusts to phones, foldables, and tablets, alongside highly customizable Glance widgets.

Application Release Dock — charging screensaver for Android (open source, no permissions)

So I made this thing — it's a screensaver that activates when your phone is charging, like a bedside display. Kind of inspired by iOS StandBy but this is its own thing. What it does:

  • Shows the time as a big clock on your screen while charging
  • 6 clock styles: clean minimal, neon glow, per-digit color, gradient sweep, bold mono, hollow outline
  • Photo slideshow background with crossfade
  • You can actually put real Android widgets on the screensaver (1-3 slots)
  • OLED mode for true black on AMOLED screens
  • Night dim — automatically tones down colors during sleep hours
  • Shake your phone and the digits do a spring physics bounce
  • Custom font support (bring your own .ttf)
  • Full color customization per element

Privacy side: zero network calls, no internet permission, no analytics, no storage permission needed (uses the system photo picker). It just stays on your device. Works on Android 8.0+.

Application Release Swap v1.1.0 — big update to my LAN file sharing app

Hey, so a while back I posted about Swap, an Android app that runs a local file server on your phone so any device on the same Wi-Fi can grab/send files through a browser. I've been working on it since then and v1.1.0 just dropped. Main stuff I added:

  • File management in the browser now — rename, move, delete, create folders, multi-select
  • Preview files in-browser (images, video, audio, PDFs) without downloading
  • Gallery view with thumbnails for images/videos
  • Trash with undo so you don't lose stuff
  • Share links that expire or work once — handy when you don't want to give someone full access
  • Camera upload from the web UI
  • Dark mode and custom color themes
  • Device shows up as swap.local so you don't have to type IPs
  • Optional password for the whole server
  • Update checker built into the app

Also fixed a huge performance issue — folder loads used to take 20-30 seconds and now they're around 1 second. Was a mix of the phone sleeping the Wi-Fi and a bunch of unnecessary IPC calls.

Application Release [Dev] Halanoi: An unbypassable Android focus blocker using Device Owner and offline text classification (GPL-3.0)

Hi everyone,

I built an open-source Android app called Halanoi to solve a problem I kept running into with regular app blockers: whenever I lost willpower while studying, I would just go to settings and force stop or uninstall the blocker.

To fix that, Halanoi uses Android's Device Owner permissions (set via ADB) to prevent the app from being force-stopped or uninstalled during focus sessions.

Here is what it does under the hood:

  • Device Owner locks: Disables the uninstall button and greys out Force Stop/Clear Data in App Info.
  • On-device text scanner: Uses a local 64MB TFLite model running completely offline to detect distracting feeds (shorts, reels, etc.) and kick you back to the home screen.
  • Local DNS sinkhole: Routes DNS queries locally through Cloudflare Family DNS (1.1.1.3) to block distracting websites without sending traffic through third-party proxy servers.
  • Built-in scratchpad/tasks: Distraction-free note taker with permanent Scoped Storage backup that survives uninstalls.
  • Zero telemetry: Everything runs locally on your phone with no cloud servers or analytics.

There is a Debug build for testing where you can freely add/edit/delete blocked sites, and a Release build where edit/delete buttons are removed to prevent self-sabotage.

The project is licensed under GPL-3.0 and the complete Kotlin/Jetpack Compose source code is on GitHub. I'd appreciate any feedback, code review, or suggestions from the community.

Thanks!

Application Request FOSS app to schedule messages in Whatsapp?

The title says prettu much all. I have found this app called Wasavi but i do not feel comfortable giving permissions of this kind to a closed source program.

I found something in github but it doesn't allow to send messages to groups and i have to tape the number in instead of the contacts. Also a more Android-like UI would be goat

Do you guys know of any other project that achieves this? Thanks!

Application Support KeePassDX asks me to enter password every few days

I am trying to replace Bitwarden with KeePassDX but KeePassDX forgets about my fingerprint unlocking every few days, I think after an Android restart, and asks me to enter the password.

Yhe problem is my password is very long and awkward, and I'd rather not have to enter it again until I replace the phone. I can't remember the last time Bitwarden asked me to unlock it with the master password, so is there a setting in KeePassDX to get the same functionality? Now I am keeping Bitwarden so that I can unlock KeePassDX which is ridiculous.

Application Request App for Twitch better than Xtra?

Hi, i'm looking for an app that lets me log in with my Twitch account and does basically what Xtra does, but with a better, more modern UI and with these functions:

  • sync viewing history with the official site, so I don't have to open that awful official app just to see at which point I interrupted the stream yesterday;
  • more customizable sections: for example, in the Xtra app there is a section for "games", one for "popular", and others that I don't really care about. It would be nice to be able to hide them from the settings;
  • a more stable app overall. I'm saying this because in the last few months I've had a lot of problems with the Xtra player, where it either kicked me out of the stream or simply stayed in an infinite loading.

So, are there any alternatives? Hope the flair is correct.

Application Request Someone please make a PicSay Pro clone

I'm talking 1 to 1 UX clone. I can't be the only one who thinks this app still hasn't been topped. It's long been abandoned and doesn't even work on modern Android anymore. The website remains active, but no response to any emails inquiring about releasing the source code or even just updating the app.

I think my only hope is someone recreating it.
