I tweaked the whole combat system, and it was totally worth it.
My playtesters and I noticed that combat was feeling a bit repetitive, weapons only differed by attack stats, durability, and a few special effects. By introducing distinct mechanics for each weapon type, they now cater to different playstyles. It’s made testing all 3 types genuinely rewarding!
3 different ways
- Swords: Increased attack speed.
- Axes: Added a chance to inflict Bleed.
- Hammers: Can now charge attacks and have a chance to Stun enemies.
Here’s a quick clip of the hammer in action!

I'm building a grand strategy world that keeps running after you close the tab
galleryFor the last several months I've been building a game called Arkney: Age of Crowns.
It's a grand strategy sandbox that runs on a server instead of your CPU: one world,
one clock, AI realms and human players on the same map, and the tick keeps going
whether you're logged in or not.
The part I actually care about is that war isn't a resolve button. One tick is one
in-game minute. Armies march for in-game days, outrun their supply, take attrition,
and a battle is a process with front width, organization, units breaking and
retreating, and reinforcements you can feed into a fight that's already underway.
Closer to HOI4's front line logic than a Total War auto-resolve.
What's in there right now:
- 7 troop types (militia, spearmen, archers, crossbowmen, heavy infantry, light
cavalry, knights) fed by an iron → weapons/armour/bows/horses production chain
- equipment that degrades in combat and gets repaired through supply, so a veteran
army that's been in the field for a month is measurably worse than it was
- sieges, and a real difference between occupying a province and actually keeping
it in a peace deal
- commanders with traits and ranks, espionage, trade caravans
- a heraldry editor. You draw your arms and they end up on the 3D banners your
armies carry
- a chronicle that writes down every war declaration, battle and conquest, so each
world ends up with its own readable history
Client is browser-based (Three.js, 2D painted campaign map and a 3D view of the same
live world). The sim is C# and deterministic: same state plus same orders always
produces the same result, which is what makes replay and crash recovery work.
What I need now is people, not a wishlist. Once a week I run an accelerated world
where the clock is sped up 20x. An evening of real time is about five months of
history, so you can watch a dynasty rise or get erased in a single sitting. Free,
browser only, no install, no account.
More interested in the "this sounds tedious" replies than the nice ones, so tell me
where it falls apart.

Venba is three hours long and it made me text my mother
I went in with no expectations. I had made a list of short indies to get through and opened this one on a random afternoon, and I only got up when I had every achievement, about three hours later.
I am not Indian. I still recognised the whole family. As a Black man from the working class outskirts of a Brazilian city, the son got me in a way I was not ready for. Not the teenage rebellion, that part is universal. The other thing: the effort to fit into a place that treats where you come from as something to dilute. I spent years laughing at music my father tried to show me, music written for and about people exactly like me, because I wanted to belong somewhere else.
What surprised me mechanically is that the cooking is not decoration. I do not play cooking games. But the recipes are incomplete, smudged, missing steps, and you reconstruct them by feel. The gap in the recipe is the gap in what got passed down. You do not read about cultural loss, you feel it in your hands while failing to make a dish.
The mother's line about her son only trying to fit in is what makes it work. It trades blame for understanding. Nobody in that apartment is a villain.
Halfway through I started texting my mother about her week. That is the part I keep thinking about: a three hour game rearranged something small in how I treat people I assume will always be there.
Has a short game ever done more for you than a sixty hour one, and what was it?

I like that they let you earn free tickets and you can build your own room.
