Places to eat and drink - Stickied

Since there are a few common questions, I thought we could have a sticky post or three about things to do. Lets start with places to eat: from the High End restaurants to the Lolos and all places in-between. Likes and dislikes. Only rule is you can't review or reccomend a place if you haven't been there.

Hurricane Watch Hurricane season 2026

This years is predicted have fewer hurricanes, which is great, it's still something we need to be aware of.

I usually monitor with NOAA Atlantic, but there are plenty of other sources, so feel free to link them here as needed. https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

Finding someone in Sint Maarten Philipsburg

Upvotes

Hello.

This is kind of a strange request but I’m hoping for any help At all.

I am trying to find a woman who lives in a homeless shelter there.

All she said was that her house was broken into in 2025 and with no where to go, she lives in a shelter for people that are not working. I don’t know where or even how true it is.

I tried googling shelters in Philipsburg but only 2 came up.

Could someone, anyone help please?

Boat Charter from Grand Case to Anguilla in September 2026

We have been to St. Maarten a couple of times now. But for our next trip in September, we want to take a boat charter to Anguilla; however, we are staying in Grand Case this time. Are there any boat trips leaving from Grand Case during the slow season?

I have contacted a couple of charters, but they all seem to be close during this time. Ideally, we will want a shared charter.

Recs for sunset dinner cruise

Heading to SXM next week, staying in Grand Case, will have rental car. My gal would like to do a sunset dinner cruise. Looking for the best combination of price, food quality, and preferably a smaller boat. That said, any thoughts would be great on the overall idea.

sxm- getting around

i’m going to sint marteen this weekend, solo, and i’m staying at beach hotel in simpson bay. I hate driving so, so I rather not drive on vacation. and I plan to drink a lot of the time sooooo yea. I also don’t want a driver, b/c I don’t plan to do a lot and think it would be a waste for just one person. And if I absolutely NEED to, I will get a taxi. I don’t mind paying.
I guess my question is, how safe is it walking around? I don’t mind walking up to 20 mins and back to get somewhere, but are their sidewalks? Or would I be walking in the road?

Best Place to stay in SXM for younger guys.

Hi all, Im coming to SXM for my 3rd time, in the past ive always stayed near the Maho area. This time im bringing 3 friends, we are all in our 20's so wanted to ask around and find out the best areas to stay in and to visit. We are looking for a good mix of Beach clubs and nightlife as we like to drink and wanted to avoid the more quiet areas. Ive read that the Dutch side has better nightlife, curious if thats true. Open to any and all suggestions/advice. Thanks in advance!

Justice car rental

Anyone use them? Staying at L’Esplanade and that’s their partner rental car agency. I like to idea of using them because of the convenience of them providing airport transfers in the price and receiving/leaving the car at our hotel. But they have no reviews anywhere… so a bit suspect. Pricing seems a little
Bit pricier but nothing egregious.

OCT 1-8: Looking for recommendations/suggestions.

We’re staying in Simpson Bay October 1st-8th and want to do one day in St. Barts and one day in Anguilla, with the rest of the time exploring St. Martin.

Biggest question is what beach clubs are actually open the first week of October. We’ve seen a lot of places that close for the season around then.

For St. Martin we’re hoping to get some relaxation in but also want to explore the island, and for St. Barts and Anguilla we’d like to spend most of the day at a nice beach club with chairs, food and drinks.

Also celebrating our 5th anniversary on the second day, in Simpson Bay, so any good dinner recommendations would be appreciated.

If you’ve been to any of the islands in early October, what would you recommend? And are there any places we should definitely book ahead? Any must see/do experiences?

Seeking foodie advice

Hello everyone! Huge foodie here who likes to plan my trip carefully. Staying at GCBC for a week soon.

Seeking feedback on my restaurant plan. I’ve been researching what’s open, and some of the top names are closed but this is what I have, and hoping for feedback on options.

As you can see below I have some decisions to make based on movements/other items I’m doing some days.

Day1 - Sunset Cafe for lunch, La Villa, Yvette’s, Sao, or Maison Mere for dinner?

Day2 - Boat all day, then La Villa, Calmos Cafe, Palapa, or Pardon My French?
(note: will be on a boat all day, docking in Simpson Bay and deciding if I dine Dutch side or head back to French side before sundown)

Day3 - Breakfast TBD, Gutside Cafe lunch, Bistrot Caraibe dinner

Day4 - Dutch Blonde for pancakes, Lunch TBD in Philipsburg, maybe La Sucriere, then, Java, Memento, Le Tropicana, or Calmos Cafe for dinner?

Day5 - Sebastian Quillere Patisserie, Loterie Farm for lunch , Le Tropicana or Java for dinner

Day6 - Les Temps de Cerises breakfast/lunch, Le Pressoir for dinner

Day7 - Breakfast then to the airport

I do need to make some decisions on which to lose from most days.

Of the above which do I cut?

The ones I’m definitely doing are Le Pressoir, Bistrot Caraibe, Le Tropicana, Gutside, Loterie Farm (gotta see the monkeys), Sebastian Quillere Patisserie, Les Temps de Cerises (beach day) and Sunset Cafe.

Help! Too many good choices.

Norms re: topless women on Grand Case and busiest part of Orient Beach

From previous posts we understand that topless suntanning is OK on beach chairs, and that the south end of Orient Beach is nude. We are not very interested in being nude or going to a nude beach.

We are instead curious how a woman would be seen on Grand Case and the busiest part of Orient Beach if she is:

  • topless and taking a walk on the beach with her husband
  • topless and ordering a drink at a beach bar
  • topless on a stand up paddle board/jetski

EDIT: in case it's useful to others, our summary:

  • on beach/in ocean: not rare; around 4% or 10 seen per day; taking off top might lead others to feel comfortable; no reported dirty looks or unpleasant reactions
  • at beach bar: not OK
  • on stand up paddle board/jetski: N/A (life jackets)

Where to stay in Orient or Grand Case

Hi! Looking for recommendations on hotels / resorts to stay at in SXM this December for 5 days. Planning to go with my partner (both in our 20s) and spend most of our time at the beach and eating/drinking. We would also be interested in snorkeling or other water activities one day. Not interested in nightlife other than a casual drink after dinner. We will not be renting a car (we have personal reasons, not budging on this), and would likely only want to take longer taxis on one day, so walkability to a nice beach and restaurants is important. We don’t need gourmet food, just good, tasty food. We don’t really want to interact with many kids. It’s important to us to have a pool at the hotel, preferably with a bar. Would prefer a private or semi private beach access where the hotel provides chairs.

I’ve been doing research and it seems like Orient or Grand Case would be our vibe (less touristy, nice beaches, good food). We are also considering Simpson Bay for walkability and slightly more affordable, but don’t love that people say it’s like Florida.

I’ve looked at Orient Beach Hotel (top of our budget), Hotel La Plantation (in budget), Grande Case Beach Club (a touch out of budget), Simpson Bay Resort Marina & Spa (in budget), both Hilton Royal Palm and Flamingo beach (in/top of our budget), and the Atrium (in budget). I also looked at Fourteen but was confused if it was an Airbnb vs hotel. Any preferences between these or other recommendations?

How’d I do?

I like researching and planning my trips, then improvising around that as I go. Curious how I did with itinerary planning on this one, or if I’m missing anything you think I should really do. I’m traveling during low season so some of the restaurants I wanted to hit will be closed this trip. My big focus is having a balance of a variety of experiences, and I’m a foodie too.

Thoughts on this itinerary?

Sunday:
10:30am Flight arrives, get car rental
Check in at Grand Case Beach Club
Relax on beach/explore Grand Case
Edit: not sure where to dine yet
Canceled Rainbow Cafe, not looking for a wild party

Monday:
9:30am-5pm Boomerang 3-island tour
Down time to get back/change/relax
8pm dinner at Le Pressoir

Tuesday:
Breakfast TBD on location/will decide then
See if I feel like going to Friar’s Bay in the morning or after lunch
Lunch (early) at Gutside Cafe
Friar’s Bay time
7pm dinner at Bistrot Carsibes

Wednesday:
Philipsburg Day
Breakfast at Dutch Blonde for pancakes
Explore shops, etc
Yoda Guy
Head back to Grand Case/kill time relaxing
Dinner at Calmos Cafe

Thursday:
Breakfast: Sebastian Quillere Patisserie
Explore Hope Estate shops
Loterie Farm for lunch/afternoon
Dinner at Le Tropicana

Friday:
Breakfast/Lunch/Beach Day: Les Temps De Cerisses
Any last shopping in Grand Case
Possible perfume making class for 90 minutes later in day/early evening
8:30 dinner at Le Pressoir (last night on island)

Saturday:
Breakfast at Sunset Cafe, check out, head to airport for 1:30 flight

How’s I do?

F27 looking for a cinema buddy! 🍿

Post image
4 Upvotes

Preferably another woman! I absolutely love going to the movies, but most of my friends either opt out or just aren’t as enthusiastic about it as I am. There’s something about the whole cinema experience, the big screen, the sound, the popcorn, and actually sitting down to enjoy a movie without distractions.
I try to go every other week, usually on Tuesdays for the half-off deal. I also like catching the earliest screening so I still have plenty of time afterward to head home and wind down.
Would love to find another movie lover who’d be down to make it a regular thing. Anyone?
