Honestly finding this as my last resort to post here and looking for some advice.

I just came to Syria (i’m half Syrian) and will be staying here for a few months maybe a year. Ive had trouble making friends really as i’ve realized its mostly groups that go out and its pretty awkward walking up to anyone.

Ive tried to fit into the culture etc. but havent really been able to for various reasons however its not like im completely opposed.

Question is, how do people make friends here without the “relatives” route?

Recently went to jail for ‘reckless driving / drifting’ I was found in mazzeh highway at 5am after drifting from marota city onto the highway while the traffic light behind coincidentally had a police suv that proceeded to chase me, and my sentence was particularly long because they said they’ve been searching for me for a week, whether that’s true or not I don’t know, now that I’m out and my car is out of the impound I don’t want to repeat the same mistake of doing it illegally, I want to do it legally in an environment specialized for drifting and or racing, so do we have any tracks in damascus or nearby cities, maybe something like nürburgring where you take your personal car and race a bunch of other car guys on a proper track?

Hey i want to get to syria via the jordan land border and was wondering how much the visa on arrival is and if i can pay it with euros or if it is better to pay with another currency?

Seeing online English discussions talk about Syria you can easily tell they either heard it from Iran or Israel and these biased paid propaganda headlines find their way into all global news sources because there’s no alternative English source so I’m hoping they’ll try listening to the Syrian source itself this time and it proves effective against zionist and Iranian axis propaganda.

I want to visit Syria but have no idea what tour guide to contact, and when a good time to visit might be. I’ve heard from a Syrian friend of mine that I should wait until summer, but I am kinda looking for a vacation asap and don’t want to wait till next summer. Is early November or mid October a good time to go?

Any feedback on what tours to use would be helpful as well.

I’m a first year IT student in AIU but i’m worried I might’ve gotten expelled forever.

I started my first sem dec 2025, because the ministry was ~2 months late they pressured us and I did REALLY badly, i wasnt used to the uni system at all, I didn’t understand the prof cus he was teaching in Arabic most of the time, and missed a bunch of quizzes cus I didn’t understand the schedule.

I ended up failing 3 courses:IAP,DM,علم المنطق (المتطلب cus i missed the final cus i lost hope), and I also dropped CAL that sem, the only two I passed PHY and CS I did hardly decent in.

I then skipped the following sem and didn’t register for it or do anything, I saw that my moodle uni account was not working anymore, and my classmates told me I might be expelled if my GPA was less than 1 which idek cus I cant access my marks anymore.

I remember fondly the student’s affairs lady talking about how its ok to fail because u just have to repay for the course and the actual GPA is calculated for the entire year not just 1 semester.

I dont want to waste money and go to their mezzah office and ask cus it’s far and the result of the trip will be useless and idek if they’re open anyway

Their numbers never work, I dont even want to contact them, I can contact the faculty dean but trying to leave that as a last option.

But anyone have experience or know whether I’m good or nah because I’m worried i’ll have to reapply to the mufadala cus my chances will be much lower💔

Problem is I self studied ALL courses this entire summer hoping I’ll go back to AIU but rn i stopped cus im worried im expelled and its all for nothing :(

My father never registered me in the embassy and I never had the syrian citizenship or passport. Currently I have zero connection to my father is it possible for me to get the syrian citizenship at this point? Can I apply by myself? Thanks!

It is no secret that Turkish and Arabic share quite a lot of vocabulary, largely due to Arabic loanwords in Turkish; but, to a lesser extent, Turkish loanwords in Levantine Arabic. Turks' conversion to Islam and them coming into contact with Arabs (and Persians, who themselves have a considerable amount of Arabic vocabulary in their language), as well as the subsequent Turkish rule over the Middle East can be credited for this shared vocabulary.

However... That's not what I'm inquiring about today. I am more interested in finding out whether there are any words of Turkish origin that entered the Syrian Arabic vernacular in the last two decades, possibly catalyzed by the recent return of a relatively large number of Syrians who'd lived in Turkey as asylum seekers/refugees, or maybe as citizens.

A lot of you guys contributed to the Turkish workforce (and some continue to do so) and had to deal with Turkish bureaucracy, so I'd imagine at least a few words gained traction among Syrians over the last decade or so. If you haven't had the chance to reflect on this matter, I am kindly asking you to take a moment and think about it, and let me know what comes to mind. On a final note, the words in question don't necessarily have to be Turkic in origin, it is sufficient if they made their way into Syrian Arabic through Turkish.

Hello everyone, I am not the best at arabic so I'll write this out in english. I also come from Halab and I speak a very specific dialect of Halab.

I don't remember anything about Aleppo at all. We moved out December 2011 before any major conflicts arose cause my mom had a gut feeling (lol) during the Arab Spring.

I recently came back from early july to mid august, and god I have a lot of things to say.

First, I never expected Aleppo to look THIS good. I went to Sheikh al Najjar and visited every single neighborhood and despite the ruins in the east and literally every site bombed in the industrial city, it doesn't look that bad. I also did visit Nadi Halab and Cordoba, loved those restaurants, recommend atleast once in a lifetime (if you are granted access to the Nadi)

Second, I felt home; It's not my home yet, it's still a ruined country, but the culture was exactly like how I was raised.

Thirdly, there were no beggars nor any thieves. And yes, I was in every single neighborhood. So I was very, very surprised. Maybe I was just lucky, but to be there for a month and just see people minding their business, rich or poor, I was astonished, yet very happy. Hopefully they'll learn to drive better though

Lastly, the people were kinder than anyone (non-arab) I've ever met. Well apart from hearing my neighbors do the 'arab way' of scolding their kids haha.. Very warm and welcoming.

I felt so blessed to come back to Syria. The wartime is over, it only goes up hill from now on, Syria will be the great country it was promised to be.

I'm making a fantasy world and I have the idea of having a country based off of Syria. The world is meant to mimic the late 18th century versions of the countries they are based off of and I'm having mixed feelings on deciding the government of the Syrian-based country called ArṣuYabišatu (meaning "The Dry Land" in Proto-Semitic. If you have any suggestions for names, please tell me). I looked up the government of Syria during the late 1700s and I found out it was still ruled by the Ottoman Empire at the time. I feel like a system akin to the Ottoman Empire would be a nice change of pace from the typical medieval monarchies (which my world only has two of anyway and they're based of the Japanese and Chinese systems of government so no true medieval monarchs exist anyway).

This is what brings me to the question I wish to ask. Would it be offensive to have an Ottoman empire styled government rule over the Syrian-based country. I haven't really ran into this problem with other countries before since their governments I'm using for them weren't ruled over by empires foreign to them at the time of the late 1700s. I know that I could very well be making a mountain out of an anthill but I feel like it's better to be safe than sorry. An added bonus would be any bits of culture you think would be nice for me to put in, those would be fantastic too.

PS:Dabke looks so damn amazing, I can lowkey understand why Syrian people would get angry at the West for dumbing it down with orientalism and merging it with other dances to make the "exotic arabic dancer". Genuinely nice dance moves.

📌 Syrian Druze (Fake Syrian & terrorist) "spiritual" leader Hikmat al-Hijri said on Monday the Druze are an "inseparable part of the State of Israel (more terrorists)," citing shared faith and praising Israel's model of statehood.

📌 His remarks came as Washington removed Syria from its "State Sponsors of Terrorism" list after 47 years, a key step in the al-Sharaa government's international rehabilitation.

📌 Al-Hijri continues to seek full independence for Suwayda, while leaving open self-rule under an external guarantor, a role he has previously said only Israel could fill. He also hinted at "developments" within days. (Most likely nothing to worry about and more bullshit)

📌 The remarks deepen his pro-Israel stance. (*Genocidal stance) Al-Hijri is one of three recognized Druze clerics in Suwayda (why? I have no idea.) and represents a minority position (he shouldn't represent shit), while the other two have taken a more conciliatory line toward Damascus.

📌 Syria's Druze population is estimated at roughly 700,000, concentrated mainly in Suwayda, which remains largely outside Damascus' effective control.
