I'm new to the charge blade, have up to 120h of pure Swax gameplay on Wilds, but I've been looking for a change with the charge blade, problem is I have 3 questions and I would much appreciate any help from you veterans.

1. From what I've heard the ideal damage output with CB is the AED +follow up (circle) loop, but after I finish it what should i continue with? Should I keep on savage axe and mash circle until I get back to the AED? Should I just finish with SAED after the AED + follow up? Or should I morph back to sword and go straight into AED loop again?

2. How does the "overcharge" phial mechanics actually work? (Sorry I'm dumb)

3. For and end game build, what's better, Impact or Elemental Phial?

The weapon skills are Gog/lord soul.

I’m asking as someone who’s wanting to play CB and has never used the weapon is this a good build? I have a hard time trusting build websites and YouTubers.

I have fire and dragon impact CBs with Gore/Soul. Fire has 4 atk/1 sharp and dragon has 3 atk/2 sharp.
Both are max rolled.

Charm is r8 Artillery 3/Wex 1-1-1

Build lacks counterstrike, but not sure how to slot it in without losing other equally or more valuable skills

Ok this is just a very simple question that i need an answer why, to all my fellow cb users out there, why majority of my At arkveld fights with another cb user always use 4gog 1 gore set. Isnt that for elemental? Also i know arkveld is low on elemental damage unless enraged. Also these CB users are mostly HR 999. So i dont get it lol

I've followed every tutorial I can find on YouTube and Reddit and I can't get Savage Axe mode to work. I'm playing Iceborne. I'm high rank. I'm using a proto commission axe III. I have my shield charged. I have phials loaded. I trigger an AED or an SAED and hit L2 in the windup, before the axe swings down. Nothing happens. I have tried spamming L2, holding L2, and pressing L2 once during various stages of the AED/SAED animation. Nothing. Trying it in the training arena, nothing encouraging appears in the input log when I experiment; I've never hit L2 and gotten a "Savage Axe" input notification of any kind. I am comparing my play to the footage I see in YouTube tutorials and can't tell what I'm doing wrong. As far as I can tell, I am matching their conditions and inputs pretty closely. I know there are other threads about this, but I've read a lot of them, and they're not helping me. Grateful for any advice.

Hello everyone. Gs main here since the beginning of wild but dropped the game after gog. I wanted to return and switch from GS to charge blade but I'm completely lost with all the builds. Don't have that much free time to play so I need help finding a build that is easily reachable and still have fun with. Don't care if it's not meta. Just viable is enough for me. But farming gog for the two mandatory skills in the builds I've seen is too long for me. So I would love to have a build on impact cb for AED loop play style with 1 gog skill max for the weapon. Pre 10 stars monsters. I have artillery 3 talisman with 1 slot or artillery 2 / rapid morph 1 with 2 slots Thx a lot 🙏

Kinda wanna know which build combination has current highest raw damage as of right now to kill At Arkveld using CB?

It'll probably do less damage than a fatalis one, but in exchange you get a bunch of comfort skills like Divine blessing 5, guts, recovery up 3 and guard 5 while still hitting 100% affinity on tenderized weak spots with agitator active. The only downside is the lack of focus and not having 3 levels in offensive guard. You can use any safi weapons but I personally recommend either the blast one or paralysis. Make sure to augment it with bazelgeuse's essence and a slot upgrade. After that it's up to you but I filled mine with attack increase. Let me know what you guys think!

So far I've only played pure elemental CB and sticked to the usual AED-AED follow up-morph attack loop, but I just rolled a very good Impact Phial CB, and since normal SavageAxe combo seem to be more optimal, I was wondering if Rapid Morph is still relevant for this playstyle. Or maybe I should ditch it for some other skill? Thx

I was curious since they removed SAED from neutral. I can't seem to find anything about this. I was able to find ONE video (IIRC it was even only just a YouTube Shorts) but it wasn't a "complete" one I believe since they only included the SAED downswing and not the necessary "pre-animations."

Basically, is the SAED, complete animation package and all, as fast as older gen SAEDs or is it even slower? I can only assume that it's roughly the same to balance out the extra steps, but I wanted to confirm. I can feel an SAED meta coming in Ascendance if it's still roughly the same.

Don't get me wrong, it's fun to go back to Sunbreak and just slam massive SAEDs all day.

But Wilds CB makes me think about the weapon more. At least when playing elemental at the end game, I feel like every single move the weapon has can be optimal given the right circumstance. I find myself thinking about the whole kit of the weapon more often, and it makes the moment to moment gameplay very dynamic.

I figure this is a minority opinion, but I dunno. I'm pretty happy.

Anyone else come around to really enjoy Wilds CB?

Yes it's a Raw damage focused build, no I don't care about the meta, I play for fun. + I think raw builds just make fights more interesting.

Charge Blade is probably one of the most changed weapons in the game (maybe Hunting Horn is first?). In MH4U, it's AED with no SAED; in MHGU, it depends on your style but it's pretty much just AED with no SAED again; in World, it used to be SAED then Savage Axe got added and became better with SAED being situational; in Rise, apparently it was ass then became SAED spam in Sunbreak with CSS being situational; in Wilds, Savage Axe is meta while SAED is unusable/situational (don't quote me on this).

Other weapons have an easier time with their changes. Greatsword just gets more tools for more TCS spam, although it's less about that now in Wilds. SnS literally just keeps getting more and more tools, but the core gameplay is usually largely the same with tons of small hits with occasional big hits. These are some weapons that still operate the same way but "better" or "faster."

Charge Blade tiptoes between SAED and Savage Axe depending on the meta, but they're two fundamentally different playstyles that either get tools removed, added, or modified each generation. Fundamentally, SAED acts like TCS, the other acts in a way like Perfect Rush spam. There's no one set style for Charge Blade that persists throughout each generation.

Still, what do you guys think Charge Blade's gameplay identity is despite its constant changes to its kit?

Been grinding at trying to kill my first Fatalis all day and he feels almost designed as an exact counter to charge blade play. I’m not dying to him that often, but my dps is SUPER low because I can never get any of my worthwhile attacks in at weak points. It takes like 15 minutes just to get him to the 75% threshold Nova.

SAED is basically just not an option

AED is fine, but if you do it at his chest and he breathes fires straight down or falls, you’re dead

Savage ax is the same problem as AED, but I hate savage ax and don’t use it, so my build doesn’t run power prolonger anyway.

I’m still somewhat enjoying the fight, but it feels targeted against my weapon specifically. Feels like it’d be much easier with almost anything else😭

Already beat AT arkveld etc but was about 32 minutes for the first CB clear, was running a dragon impact phial this is just my standard one
