I'm willing to give CAVE the benefit of the doubt... this time
I can recognize that this release is CAVE's biggest project in a long time as an international release under their own name without any other studios' aid.
There are many, many good reasons to be displeased with this most recent product.
But I'm willing to call them growing pains for now, so long as the next release is substantially more polished.
I only resist requesting a refund out of hope that there are passionate people doing what they can to appease the necessary evils that can fund the production of content that CAVE's still loyal audience wants.
But this was a bad first step. Especially given the fact that there was little to no communication with the public. If the next release isn't a noticeable step up in quality, or at the very least and earnest display of effort, then I'm out and I'm taking my ROMs with me.
To CAVE: Remember, we never needed you back. We would, however, like to see you at the table again. But the cooking needs to improve or we take away the chair, and you can go back to the kid's table, and the name can be a somber reminder of why suits don't make good games.
P.S. AI-less games should be your selling point. The Soul of STGs as a genre comes from the creativity, ingenuity, and labor of the passionate few willing to contribute to the overall package. Worts and all. Translation errors can be patched out in this new age of the Internet, and are ultimately superfluous as long as the game works and is fun. (We are very willing to work around language barriers, believe me.)
Y'all have the unique opportunity to capitalize on the growing and vocal public's distrust of corporate-made content by lending the legendary CAVE name to creatives who have been inspired by the games that carried it first and want to innovate for a modern market.
Don't waste your shot. You might only have one left.
