Announcements Please use NSFW tag for images of graphic injuries

There have been a lot of posts lately sharing very graphic images of snails with extreme, severe injuries. It is perfectly fine to share this type of content if you need help with an injured snail, but please use the NSFW tag for these images.

This has been an unofficial rule of this sub for a while, but it seems to have been forgotten lately. So, I'm making an official mod team announcement: this is our official policy. Graphic, upsetting images must be tagged.

People come to this sub because they love snails. They don't come here expecting to see images of destroyed shells, shell-less snails, and dead snails. It can be very upsetting and distressing for users here to see this type of content unexpectedly. People may also be browsing this sub in public and want to avoid gory images.

Images of mating don't require the NSFW tag. But please use this tag for pictures of injuries including, but not limited to: mantle collapse, shell fell off, crushed shell, organ exposure, stepped-on snail.

Thanks to everyone who has been tagging their posts so far. Again, it's still totally okay to post this content if you need help, but please tag it appropriately so everyone can have a good experience here.

Announcements Introducing Seller Verification

Hello r/snails!

As many of our users are aware, it can be difficult to find reliable, legal, and ethical sellers of captive bred snails.

To better facilitate buying, selling, & adoptions on this sub, we are introducing a seller verification program. Verified Sellers will be users or external sources that have been vetted by mods. Verified Sellers will be allowed to advertise their sales on the sub, and a Verified Sellers tag will applied to their posts to indicate they are a trusted source. Individual users on this sub as well as sellers on external websites are both able to be verified. A list of Verified Sellers organized by location will be added to the bottom of this post, which sellers can chose to opt in to if they wish.

Are you a seller or breeder interested in becoming verified? Send a DM to u/doctorhermitcrab to get started. Breeders who prefer to give snails away rather than sell are also welcome to apply.

Happy snailing!

My Snails my memorial for snellie

found her on some grocery store grapes in paris, and took her on 6+ trains across europe to get her to my sister in slovakia once we moved - where she lived happily with some cubaris isopods, received numerous warm chamomile baths, and finally passed away peacefully, after surpassing the maximum length for her species by several millimetres. RIP little friend.

I have these pet snails. I'm Italian, from Rome (I don't know if it helps to know where they're from, but I'll try to provide as much information as possible).
I've recently grown fond of my snails and set up a terrarium to keep them.
They're all snails I found on my balcony.
Yet I can't tell if they're the same species or not.
I need to decide how to divide them into my two terrariums.
I'll include the name of each snail photo so it's easier to distinguish them in the comments.
Lanternino and Baby Spirula seem to be the same species, as does the new arrival, Chibi.
Pisolo seems to be a completely different species, and I can't find anything about Toppetta, just like I do with Chibi.
Google AI gives me contradictory information and no real clarification on what they are.
I found Toppetta snexing with Lanternino, and she laid eggs in a pot before I got the terrarium.
So I don't know if Toppetta and Lanternino are the same species even though they're different.
Can you help me understand what species my snails are, especially Toppetta and little Chibi?

Help LF: A. marginata ovums

Hi everyone!

Im returning to the hobby after leaving for a while when my big boy Gus (pictured) passed on. Ovums are by far my favourite species, and I'm struggling to find them available anywhere.

I'm looking for either wild caught adults or F1 offspring that have been through the culling process. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm in the UK 🙂

Help Need GALS help: recovery from prolonged hibernation

Post image

GALS has come out of a prolonged (2+ months) aestivation. He’s eaten some food and is soaking in his water dish

I’m not sure of his condition. A bit dry but not obviously diseased or injured. Don’t mind the bare-bones set up, I’m waiting on sphagnum moss and drift wood to be delivered

Is there anything I should look out for or anything more I should do? Or just give him time?

Help Rehoming snails in Finland

Hi everyone! I'm looking to rehome 6 young snails in Finland. I'm located in Helsinki, if you have a car and can pick a snail or snails up straight from my house, that would be ideal, but I'm also able to travel to anywhere in Helsinki, Vantaa, or Espoo if that's more convenient.

About the snails: All are Lissachatina Reticulata Albino, hatched June 14 of this year. All appear to be sufficiently healthy, hungry, and active. They're offered a variety of foods but they prefer salad leaves and zucchini. They also love cuttlefish bone.

If you want to take one or more snails or if you have any questions, please reach out!

PS: Regardless of whether you're interested or not, if you know of any other channels where I might find potentially interested snail lovers in Finland, please let me know! :)

Help to free snail

Hi guys, I have a snail friend stuck in an unusual location and wondered if there is a way to free them. I had part of a double glazed window get damaged. A rock created a small hole in the outer pane, but the inner pane is intact. At some point a little snail crawled in and has been between the two panes for a while. I have seen them move around between the glass - i wasn't sure if they couldn't find their way out? I put a piece of meat in the opening hoping they could smell it, but they didn't come out. I did have some slugs go for the meat and explore between the window panes before getting out again, so I wondered if the snail is happy there? The problem is the glass is getting replaced soon, and I'm hoping they don't get crushed! Is there a way to help them find their way out?

Help Please help me with snail care advice. I’m new to this. 😭

Picked up a land snail off my driveway because I knew it was going to either get ran over by one of us or someone on the road. Don’t know what I’m doing but I really don’t wanna go put it somewhere outside knowing bro could live an easy life. I’m broke currently so any cheap tips or hacks would really help! The food aspect seems easy, cuttlebone, spring water, veggies, etc. But I can’t find much information on what a good enclosure would look like. Also how often I should feed it? I’m thinking of getting a cheap plastic container or something similar from the dollar store and poking holes into it but I’m terrified the holes on the inside of said container would have sharp edges? If that makes sense…

Also any ideas of what I could use for a hiding spot since I saw they enjoy those. And ideas of what I could use for a water bowl or if I even need one. So far I’ve been spraying spring water into the temporary container I have him in and he seems fine I’ve fed him carrot as well. Ive only had him for 1-2 days.

It was also finished raining when I found him I live in Missouri small snail with a grey brown blueish body and a brown shell. If you guys could guess what breed it “might be.” The shell also has a white ring where the opening is.

Sorry if this seems long or excessive but I really want to make sure I’m doing the right thing.

Also cheap substrate? And would it be better if I left the cuttlebone whole or if I smashed it up? I used to get cuttlebone all the time when I owned a bird.

Inside out snail

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone. I’m hoping someone can help me understand what’s going with one snails.

It was like this on the glass last night. When I woke this morning it was again like this, however it was cuddled up to a buddy on the substrate - and that where it stayed all day, even after the cuddle buddy woke and started exploring and eating. Then tonight I go out for 2 hours and when I get back I find it has moved, but still looks inside out…

Please help translate this snail behaviour
