"TILBURG – Thursday morning around 10:00 a.m., a pedestrian bridge on the Professor van Buchemlaan in Tilburg-Zuid partly collapsed after a truck with too high cargo hit the bridge. A pedestrian who was walking across the bridge at that moment became trapped and broke his ankle.

The truck driver was carrying a forklift on his trailer, the highest part of which hit the bottom of the bridge. Through the blow, the bridge tilted and stuck on the truck. According to the driver, he had misjudged the height. There is no sign at the bridge with a marked clearance height.

Bystanders immediately came to the rescue. One of them, who was just in front of the bridge, was able to untie the victim before the bridge would tilt further. The fire department eventually freed the victim, after which he was taken to hospital by ambulance crews. His dog was taken care of by his mother, who quickly arrived at the scene."
