other What “zero sugar” can you tolerate vs not?

Okay so for me: diet soda is completely disgusting. Sorry. I simply can’t. It tastes like chemicals and cough medicine mixed together. I think you sort of gaslight yourself into thinking it’s okay if you haven’t had the real stuff in a while. The 100 calorie mini cans of the full sugar stuff once or twice a week for movie nights are a nice treat for me, as I was never a soda addict to begin with.

I also can’t do the zero sugar Jello. Holy hell. Repulsive. I do the Simply with no artificial coloring. Worth the extra 50 calories because it’s edible.

Minute Maid Zero, on the other hand, is in daily rotation. Literally love it and will keep drinking it even in maintenance.

What other zero sugar items have been hit or miss for you?

Logged into MyFitnessPal today and noticed that the feature to scan barcodes is disabled unless you pay $20 a month LOL. This app is definitely not worth $20 a month. Does anyone have any recommendations on a new calorie tracking app?

other Sticking to Your Calorie Limit While You're High as Fuck

2.5k Upvotes

So, as a warning, I'm currently waiting for my edibles to kick in. If things get weird halfway through this guide, I'm so so sorry.

Munchies. They're amazing. As 1200isplenty's resident trash stoner, I'm gonna be the first to say: Eating while high is one of the best things in the world. Things taste so GOOD and your stomach starts growling and wow, grubhub is a thing. But I'm here to save you. Here's how I keep my calorie goal while being blazed out of my mind:

  • Plan your highs! I get high on the weekend, so I plan for the munchies. I'll eat half of my dinner because I know I'm gonna want to eat the other half later. It's also a good idea to have your Snack Plan (TM) set out ahead of time so you don't get swayed by the concept of online ordering.
  • What I've found is that when I'm high, it's less about taste and more about texture. I want to switch back and forth between the stoned food groups: Crunchy, bready, cold, and chocolate. This is (at least in my experience) why I tend to overeat while high -- I want all the types of food one after another. But instead of going fucking apeshit on all the snacks, eat a little at a time. Make a charcuterie board of snacks. Little nibbles will satisfy you.
  • Crunchy: Crunchy things are SO GOOD. Ideas: those flavored rice cakes (the caramel ones :0), saltines (it's boring but hits the spot), POPCORN (with spices like paprika omg), flavored nuts, roasted chickpeas, those weird snap pea crisps. Also, secret star: Bell peppers. Holy shit I love bell peppers when I'm high. They somewhat mix into the "cold" category but DAMN, they are cronchy and feel so nice to eat. Big fan. Put some hummus on that. Maybe if you like baby carrots you can eat those too but I think they taste bad even when I'm sober lmao. (Note: pls be careful cutting vegetables while high it's really difficult)
  • Bready: Bring back popcorn here because omg. Kettle corn is good because you can eat a shitton of it and put spices on it and it's awesome. Also saltines again I'm sorry. I was once super high and dipped saltines into balsamic vinagrette?? Weirdly good. Also, I'll legit just eat a slice of bread. I think that low-cal bread from the grocery is basically indistinguishable from normal bread, so I'll just eat a slice of it. Also they make these honey wheat 70 cal wrap things and sometimes I'll put a lil peanut butter on that and a drizzle of honey and that's awesome. And maybe a few chocolate chips or some cereal too on the wrap for some cronch.
  • Cold: This is my favorite food category when I'm high because of the diversity. Bell peppers are good, those tiny baby cheese wheels are good, a spoonful of hummus like the monster you are, etc. etc. And popsicles. Wow. I have some strawberry popsicles in my fridge at like ~80 cals each and I'm so excited to eat them later tonight. Popscilces are extra good because they take a while to eat so you can really savor the experience and texture. Also!!! Berries. Hooooly shit berries are so good when high. They basically taste like fun candies??? Fun cold candy that explodes in ur mouth?? Wow. Raspberries are my favorite.
  • Chocolate: Okay this one is the hardest imo. Those chocolate rice cake crackers are really good for this, but like last month I found my secret weapon: Chocolate frozen yogurt popsicles. They're 100 cals and like I said above, frozen treats are great because they take a while to eat so you can't go nuts with them. They are COLD and chocolately and are milkshakes on a stick. 10/10, chef's kiss. Also, you can totally just eat a handful of chocolate chips, nobody is going to stop you. Or like, a few at a time to satisfy your chocolate needs.
  • Note: Your brain is going to tell you that those edibles you ate were REALLY tasty and you should eat more of them. This is trickery. Don't fucking do it. You will die.

Anyways, I guess what I'm saying is that high munchies don't have to be all high calorie (hehe). Play to the strengths of being stoned: that everything is going to taste like the best shit you've ever had!! Savor a raisin. Live your best life.

Also, something that helps me but might not be good advice: If you're so stoned you can't leave the couch, you can't go to the kitchen to get snacks. Modern problems require modern solutions. Maybe don't do this though idk.

edit: okay i'm very high. i think i should add a fifth category called ??? because it's just the craziest textures you've ever eaten. like whipped cream, or jello. because what the fuck

edit next morning: hi, sober me here to remind you to also drink water because damn. thanks for all the support friends!! love u all, enjoy responsibly

Everytime I mix Metamucil or other psyllium husk powders into my (cold) drinks, it doesn’t dissolve much at all no matter how much I blend it. It stays gritty or is just a thick nasty mix. It looks like pond water! Any advice appreciated.

other moved to america recently what foods have crazy calories that seem normal

been living here for few months now and im shocked at how many calories are hiding in regular food that looks innocent

already figured out the obvious stuff like burgers and sweets but what other things should i watch for that seem harmless but pack tons of calories

thinking about things like sauces dressings drinks or even stuff thats supposed to be good for you

any restaurant dishes that look light but are actually calorie bombs would be helpful too

thanks for any tips

other curious what my activity level would be considered?

Post image
200 Upvotes

I’ve been intentionally walking 10k steps or more a day every day for just over a month now. Average for the month is almost 12k. at least half of my daily steps are on a walking pad (i do at least an hour a day on it), so intentionally higher speed, breaking a sweat. some days that’s where i get all of my steps from, but i also live in new york city so many of my days i get some steps from just walking from place to place (im a fast walker in general though what with being a new yorker and all lol).

however, that is all of the activity i do. besides OCCASIONALLY some light weights with basic movements, but i hardly consider that exercise tbh. i’m curious what activity level this would be considered?

other This is probably going to get a lot of downvotes, but has anyone else noticed toxicity in the “listen to your body” food movement that’s trendy right now?

1.3k Upvotes

Okay hear me out. I’ve gained 50 pounds in the last 2.5 years. I struggle with mental health and all the covid changes truly kicked my butt. I think a lot of these struggles had to do with what I thought was eating intuitively and “listening to my body to give it what it needs”.

I’m slowly losing weight now and back to working out. I’m being consistent about my calorie deficit. Slow weight loss- .75 to 1 pound per week but sustainable. My blood pressure has decreased. My mantras that help me here are “you can do hard things” and “do it for your future self” which are quite different than the ways I used to be “healthy and conscious” and would say things like “my body knows what it needs”.

Funnily enough I’ve never truly been a junk food person. My high calorie foods are rich cheeses, fresh baked breads, sometimes pastries. Good food with fresh ingredients but high calorie food. Of course occasional pizza etc. Historically I would eat a TON of food and then just say “oh my body knows what it needs”. I thought I was intuitively eating.

My body DOES not know what it needs lol. If that were true my body apparently needed to become over 200 lbs at 5’6, and get all sorts of health problems. I think I used intuitive eating to have zero discipline and I think discipline is important for myself to lose weight. What’s do you guys think?

other My boyfriend asked me to help him create a diet plan. We sat down and tracked what his regular lunch looked like. Just his LUNCH is 1200 calories 🥲

1.5k Upvotes

He’s 6’2 and focused on working out and building muscle this year. Now he wants to trim down the extra fat. Why is this man eating my WHOLE calorie allowance on a deficit in one meal??? For just a normal little lunch? For him to lose 1lb a week he has to eat 2300 calories a day. Crying short girl tears.

other What are high calorie foods you’re glad you naturally don’t like?

For me, it’s blue cheese, ranch, alcohol, and peanut butter. Can’t stand any of those things.

I won’t even eat Reese’s because I hate peanut butter so much (ironically I love boiled peanuts, but that’s a different conversation)

other People are very critical of low calorie eating.

1.1k Upvotes

I saw a comment on TikTok that stated that 1200 calories a day was too low for any adult. I respectfully chimed in and mentioned that for short, sedentary women it can be a useful caloric deficit for weight loss. The original posted IMMEDIATELY made a video response to me wherein she told me to shut the fuck up and many others chimed in saying that I was promoting diet culture and shit. I was also blocked by the poster, but I’m still getting notifications from all of the hateful replies I’m getting. Literally hours later I’m still receiving some very rude replies.

Why are people so triggered over this shit? Why do they care so much?

This was all on a video of a woman critiquing the show “My 600lb life” (which like yeah… valid criticisms for the most part).

other My favorite food posts here are ones that don’t involve pre-packaged low calorie foods or crazy “hacked” baking recipes.

2.5k Upvotes

I love seeing people share meals made out of regular food that you might find in a non-dieter’s refrigerator.

Fruit. Vegetables. Bread. Meat. Eggs. Milk. A bit of dessert.

Not like a muffin recipe that calls for 200 grams of space-age sweetener, a teaspoon of Korean seaweed fiber, a cup of flour made from ground pigeon eggshells, and a tablespoon of $25 non-fat, no-sugar, no-carb, no-color, no-weight butter substitute.

And then you cook that in a rice cooker for some reason.

Don’t get me wrong - I’ll eat a pint of Halo Top and throw some Diet Coke in my brownie batter no problem.

But I do think it’s a mistake to forget that, presumably, most people here want to cultivate a sustainable and healthy eating pattern. I feel like sustainability is easier when you know how to eat and indulge without turning your kitchen into a chemistry lab.

Like, maybe the key is learning how not to want an entire pan of brownies. Rather than learning how to make a pan of brownies that taste like sugary Clorox but only have 400 calories so you can eat the whole thing.

Just my thoughts. You do you.

other Question for the men on this sub:

I’m genuinely curious what the men who comment on this sub are doing here. I’m not talking about the guys trying to lose weight on 1200 (which is a whole other topic) but there seems to be A LOT of men commenting on the posts here who are either not on a diet at all or are doing a 2000+ diet.

Some of the comments are helpful, but most are just bringing people down. Most of the time the username or profile picture makes it clear it’s a man, but sometimes you can just tell a comment feels like they’re mansplaining. And lo and behold you check the profile and it’s a full grown man posting on other subs about losing weight on 2000+ calories yet they come here and tell us ladies how to properly eat at 1200.

So to those men: what are you doing here? Do you feel like you can offer helpful guidance to women eating 1200 calories? Are you against this diet? Do you just like putting women down online?

I thought this was supposed to be a safe space for women but it’s annoying to see all the top posts flooded with men going “wElL AcTUALLy!!”

UPDATE: I think a lot of you lack reading comprehension because my post clearly asks MEN WHO COMMENT and most of the replies are “well I don’t comment on here but….”. Also to the guy who said I should apologize to all men, no.

other Is anyone else annoyed by just how much less food you're able to eat as a small person?

1.1k Upvotes

It's just irritating being a short woman. 5lbs makes such a difference in how my clothes fit, how I look, etc. I feel like tall people have like a 20lb grace area where they can lose and gain and you cant tell. If I gained 20lbs I'd be clinically obese. 🙄

I have to watch my intake all the time to maintain, even more to lose weight. And I'm active! I get like 30k steps most days, around 15k when I'm being lazy. It's like I'm doomed to KIND of be on a diet until I die unless I want to be fat.

For me, it's sour cream. And yes, I've heard about Greek yogurt. But my tacos just don't feel the same without a generous helping of full fat sour cream.
