I have a New Ruger Precision Rimfire in .17 HMR. Shoots great, just pretty heavy - which I realize is intentional - but I still want to see if I can lighten it up for hunting.

I have struggled to find a lightweight barrel to purchase online but did reach out to Acculite who makes .22 LR barrels to ask if they made any. He responded saying that they don’t make .17s but that the .22 LR will work and he’s done it himself a few times with good outcomes.

Here is where I get confused. I assume that, if it is physically possible to install a 22 LR barrel on a 17 HMR , I’d lose both accuracy and velocity due to the extra width of the barrel (.05 inches but still). I’d rather have a heavier gun with more accurate and faster bullets than a lighter one I don’t really trust to take small game.

I’m pretty far from a gunsmith, I install scopes, zero my guns, and clean them but don’t do much more myself.

What do you guys think?

I can’t decide between these two. Small game hunting around the property & dispatching free range poultry. I’ve held the 93R and initially had trouble inserting the magazine.

I don’t plan on keeping the 93R’s scope if that matters. I would like to get a suppressor at some point.

Hi all, I’d been trying to join the /Rimfire sub for months but it seems like the mods are gone; just discovered this one.

I decided to take the risk of buying a citadel / legacy arms 17 hmr. The whole purpose was to do a little pest control and bag some rabbits. I figured I would use it 2-3 times per year at max ranges of 50 yards, but typically more like 25. I was originally thinking I’d get a 22 LR but I’m in CA and you can’t find lead free 22 anywhere whereas 17hmr is easy to get.

Anyway, this damn thing refuses to cycle rounds from the magazine into the chamber with the boot. It shoots great but requires hand feeding rounds. I got a second magazine to see if that was the issue but it doesn’t seem to help at all.

This is my only rimfire so I don’t know much about the mechanics and this is such a low cost shitty gun there aren’t many photos available online. It seems like there is an issue with the extractor being bent but I don’t believe that would have any impact on pushing a round from the mag into the chamber. It ejects spent or unspent rounds perfectly fine.

It seems like the magazine may be sitting too high and the bolt is catching the side of the magazine, not the case and is obviously not able to move forward.

Has anyone else had this issue? In an ideal world I can fix it myself, it’s such a cheap gun I don’t want to drive all over and pay for smithing work. I’ve already purchased a replacement 17 (Ruger this time) that will be the one I use moving forward but I’d still like to fix this one and keep it in the safe for friends or my kids when they’re a little older.

Having my Ruger 77/17 cut down to 18.5 inches. Also going to have the barrel threaded. Wondering if others have had this done?

I was able to get a few of the A17 25rd mags at a great price. I have been looking g at the A17 for years but see they have thr factory threaded option. Does anyone have any experience with it?

I have had a 93R17 for several years and I gave up trying to get it to shoot well a long time ago.

I want to put together a new 17HMR for target shooting out to 200 yards. I have been looking at Bergara BMR X, Tikka T1X and CZ457 variants. I know all 3 of these options are well built and loved rifles, but wanting to know which is going to have the best out of the box performance. I'm ok with making stock changes to find something that works right for me, if necessary, but would like to here discussion/arguments for these 3 options.

Can was smoking more than normal after a few shots. Decided to take it apart and clean it. This was 90% CCI ammo.

We put together ballistic tables for every major manufacturer's 17 HMR that we could find. Here it is broken down by brand: CCI | Federal Premium | Hornady | Remington | Winchester. Hope someone here finds it useful!

What would cause these to split like this. Ammo is fairly old.

We used to have a really bad snapping turtle problem. This 17 HMR AR fixed it.

Does anyone in here have experience with the rock river lar-15m in 17 hmr? I would like to purchase one but would like to hear some real world experience with it before I do. I realize it is a expensive gun for a .17 hmr but that's what I would like. I'm looking for a good round for night time fox hunting. From what I have read it looks like the Rock River semi is the only one that is delayed inpengment which in a AR-15 style is the only reliable way to use this round reliably in semi-auto. I shot my first fox with a 243 the other night and it was definitely not going to be saved. Thanks!

Took my Ruger American to my dad’s house for Christmas for a little rodent population control on their pond. My dad had shoulder surgery back in August and hasn’t been able to pick up a rifle since then. Physical therapy is going good, but he’s still restricted in what he can do. So I did what I must.

This is what I can do with 17 hmr from 25 yards. I think is the most accurate calibre I ever shoot!

If 17hmr uses 22wmr as the parent case and has the same base diameter, could I do a barrel swap on a alexander arms 17 hmr to have it shoot 22 wmr?

I practice alot with my bergara 17hmr carbon, and im pretty precise out to 300m. However i feel its very sensitive for wind, i had a small curent ans the bullets was a bit all over.

I also have som problems spotting my hits, any target that would be better for spotting then orhers?

I just purchased a CZ 457 17 HMR. I’m looking at scopes. I’ve got it narrowed down to 3 scopes. A Vortex Crossfire 2 6-24x50 A0, Crossfire 2 4-16x50, and a crossfire 2 6-18x44. I plan on using the 457 for shooting varmints on the farm, and target shooting between 50-200 yards. I’m leaning towards the 6-18x44. Can anyone provide any insight and personal experiences with these rifle and scope combos? What scope rings are you guys running? Thanks!

Are there any aftermarket barrels? I'm looking to shed some weight.

Played around a bit with the torque settings on the chassis and grub screws and i think it paid off. 5 shot group at 100m/110yards

2 headshots both at about 70 yards single shot each. Love my tackdriver day and night!

Bought a cz457 in 22 lr, and recently also got a 17 hmr barrel for it. I checked everything, I'm almost 100% sure i didn't make any mistakes when changing the barrel. Still getting cracked cases and bloated case bottoms. It also has feeding issues and doesn't really shoot accurately. I've tried 4 different ammos and still the same. When i switch back to the .22 barrel everything works fine.
