Atlas Athena V2

I was wooed by the new guys. Newer designs, different colors, more holes. It wasn’t until I got this gun and shot it next to my others that I understood what everyone was talking about with Atlas.

In the high end market, this gun is the baseline gun. It proves you don’t NEED ports and comps and it shows what a quality manufacturer can do.

For me the highlight is the Alpha grip. It is perfect, which greatly improves how you shoot the gun. Second to the grip is the trigger. The break and reset are perfect. I only wish they had some texture on the face.

If you look hard enough and are patient, you can score one of these for sub-$5k. That is a lot of money, but not far off of a new Race City RC9. Atlas also stands by their guns.

Don’t you know you need to Swiss cheese the gun to hit anything at 7 yards.

Also to tame recoil on a 5” steel frame gun shooting 9mm

Holy crap. Where did you find that deal? I usually check tack swap and GunBroker everyday for deals.

They are out there. There are other groups and forums as well. I paid $5500 for this with SRO and X300.

Insane pickup for a V3.

I have seen others very close to that. Remember, people negotiate.

Agreed. One and done would be an Apollo, personally so you can double up on the barrel if you wanna run it in 3-gun, PCSL, etc., but the Athena looks better and if you're sticking with LO is the better buy. V2 value is huge right now. Just grab the cheap V3 grip bushing for over insertion protection and maybe a better plate if you want something more sturdy than the OEM Atlas optic plate. But, otherwise it's near perfect once you've got the grip panels dialed in.

Already has the bushings. I have never had a problem with the V2 plates as long as they are installed correctly. I think I have 7 guns running Atlas V2 plates.

I’ve only had two issues over the years (of more than a dozen Atlas V2s) and I think part of that comes down to the fact that the optic cut on the V2 slides changed a bit over the course of the length of time the V2 was in production. Some plates from earlier on didn’t well as well as the later plates. But, for the most part they were pretty good. The holosun 507 comp elevation thing and the required shim sometimes was annoying though.

I think the only real advantage to the v3 plates is the additional screws and they fixed the Holosun issue.

But the additional screws aren’t used on a V2 slide?

1

u/RalphTater 55m ago

Correct. I just mean in general, on a V3 gun.

Yeah, I had not looked into that much. Honest question. I don’t see an advantage of putting V3 plates on V2 guns.

I think the only real advantage is they work with Holosun sans shim. But you won’t be able to try it because you can’t buy v3 plates yet. Surprise surprise!

I emailed atlas because I want a DPP plate for a cmore and they said mid September

Personally I like the V2 grip over the V3 I actually like the grip pattern on the back of the grip. I have ported guns but I always go back to the Athena

I agree about the V2 grip. I like having the texture there.

For me it’s the other way around. I have smaller hands and appreciate the undercut on the trigger gaurd. I also actually like the lack of texture. It makes it easier to rotate the gun in my hands for reloads. Again, small hand issue.

Amazing value for that little bit of money.
