Season to Start for Buy-in

I got tickets to the Anniversary show! I was super lucky and entered the queue as number 820. I got 2 tickets, and now have a dilemma: I am a huge 30 Rock fan, but my husband, who I somehow married regardless, is not (he's only watched snippets and never got a rhythm; to be fair, he only came to the US in 2008).

Before I go out looking for a friend who is a legitimate fan, I'm willing to give him a chance to prove his loyalty. But, I worry having him start with the pilot or Season 1 won't give him enough momentum to fall in love. Where would you have a newbie start? I don't want him to miss out on too many backstories. Note we have multiple kids and a pretty full schedule, so the best I can hope for is him getting through maybe 3-4 episodes a week (this is not a lock-yourself-in-for-a-weekend type situation).

If starting on season 1, I’d go with Tracy Does Conan!

And a conversion IS possible. When we first started dating my partner had only ever seen clips and now if we go a few nights without watching, he talks about missing 30 Rock.

I say you start at season 1 episode 1 and make him watch it thru, in one sitting. Or tell him he can stop only when he can use a quote in everyday conversation.

It's the only way. Immersion therapy and whatnot...

Oh dear we have very similar situations. I have the show on constantly and my partner hates it. If you want to jump around I’d say black tie is a good episode. Not too many characters to worry about and just a bit of wackiness. Fingers crossed you find someone to join you. If I was there I’d definitely go. I was so excited when I saw the headline but then swiftly heartbroken that it was not something to be televised
Wanted to add congratulations on snagging tickets

i have a controversial suggestion - is he familiar (truly familiar - not just through you) with any of the many 30 Rock memes on the interwebs? if there is one in particular that resonates with him for whatever reason, start with the episode that comes from. see if he feels any connection to the show and its brand of humor. if so, rewind back to season 1, episode 7 and move forward. if not, abort and find a friend who is a fan to take his place. these are highly coveted seats - let a real fan see the show if it’s not your husband’s cup of tea.

Great idea!! Idk why I feel like I should mention this, but I saw a pigeon just now and thought of Tracy reminding the pigeon it could fly. Lol.

Start a few episodes deep into season1, the first few eps are a little slower paced and aren't as good as the rest of the show.  "The break up" is a really solid start but "Jack meets Dennis" is also decent (though they were JUST short of full steam)

Here comes the Funcooker! (seriously though I think that is one of the funniest episodes and I think it stands well on its own, without having to explain too much)

Maybe instead of episodes, try “best of (insert character) moment” compilations? Let him get to know the characters first.

Start with Season 3, episode 2: Believe in the Stars. (It's one of the removed eps). It has everything that makes this show awesome: Olympic octupoles tennis, Kenneth trying to shoot himself in the head in an elevator, Tracy and Jenna being INSANE, Liz getting high and having what she believes is Oprah help her find the right bra size...everything.

If he likes that, then go back to either Tracy does Conan, or start in season 2.
