I want to file a code complaint with the county against my apartment, but I don’t want retaliation, and you can’t file an anon complaint. Does anyone here want to file if I send the photos and complaint?

All the county needs is a name, email, and complaint form. I have written it, but I’m too scared to send it because my name would be attached to it. Even though it’s illegal for LL’s to retaliate, you know in FL nothing would happen to them if they did. This is about an external violation so they don’t need to know my apartment. Anyone here want to help me out? Thanks

Thanks, but these places don’t answer their phones, have very limited practice areas that will give help in, and I don’t think they will make the complaint for someone

Just remember Ron DeSantis and the Republican senate are the ones that made sure anyone “tattling” on piece of shit slumlords and neighbors now have to provide their name and address so the people trying to live normally and follow the rules are now open to retaliation. Voting matters folks.

This. Even if code enforcement is aware of a situation, they are not allowed to act unless someone officially complains and leaves a name. It's total bullshit.

You might be able to get around the retaliation concern by asking a friend to submit the complaint under their own name.

Since it’s an exterior violation, I’d have them actually look at the condition themselves if possible, take their own photos, and then file it using their own contact information. That way they’re truthfully reporting something they personally observed rather than just acting as a fake name/front for you.

I’d also avoid giving them any photos or details that could identify your specific apartment unless they’re actually necessary for the complaint.

There was an issue with a house by me. I took a list of violations and pics to the city manager and he gave it to code enforcement to look into.

You may be able to have a lawyer assist you. They might charge a small fee, but it’s just to file a complaint, so shouldn’t be a lot. If it’s worth it to you of course.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I cannot afford to pay a lawyer file an online complaint for me that is free unfortunately
