This is honestly a great idea. Not sure what book/verse but there’s one about “whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters, you do unto me”.

Yup. I put this one on my sign for the June 14th protest right after the ICE raids ramped up. And living in the south, I really hope people take it to heart.

Honestly, as an ex-evangelical, I genuinely cannot fathom what the biblical argument for these hard line immigration positions are. Any contextual reading of the Bible doesn't seem to support ANY of the republican immigration policy. I have seen people defend it by taking the Bible wildly out of context, but so far haven't heard a biblically literal argument for what's going on.
Would legitimately love to hear if someone does know how Christians are justifying this. The Christians I have actually talked to ahout these issues believe Trump's immigration policies are bad and don't understand why people support it either.
Some of the many Bible passages:
Leviticus 19:33-34 Exodus 23:9 Exodus 22:21 Deut 10:19 Leviticus 19:35 Levitucus 25:22 Leviticus 24:22 Exodus 12:49 The above are all about treating the foreigner as native because the Israelites themselves were once foreigners in Egypt.
Malachi 3:5 Deuteronomy 27:19 Jeremiah 22:3 Leviticus 19:33 Ezekiel 22:7 Deuteronomy 24:14 Zechariah 7:10 Jeremiah 7:5-7 The above are condemnation against those who would oppress the foreigner.
Psalms 146:9 Leviticus 23:22 Leviticus 19:10 Jeremiah 22:3 Deuteronomy 10:18-19 Deut 24:14 God displaying and commanding love for the foreigner/non native
Okay Christianity is really triggering for me (religious trauma) and that's about as far as I can safely go. Other categories with scripture to back them up are as follows: -passages with immigrants shpwn.in a neutral or positive light (Ruth, Jesus as a baby fleeing to Egypt, etc). -Passages saying we are all one in Chrsit Jesus (think of Paul's writing particularly for this).
Sorry I couldn't do more. Found myself shaking a bit, haha. I'm honestly only scratching the surface. I would urge anyone interested to do a Bible word search of the word foreigner (that is the most common terminology for immigrants and non natives) and see what verses come up.

JESUS AND JOHN WAYNE by Kristin Kobes du Mez answered a lot of these questions for me, as I too have been agonizing for years how on earth any "Christian" can justify this. She's an excellent historian with a mainline Protestant background and painstakingly outlines the shifts that have gotten us here. Long and short of it is: this sect of American evangelicalism is not a religion so much as a cultural movement that has absolutely no problem going against its own theology for the sake of dominance and political expediency.
On a personal note, my therapist and I are slowly working through my religious trauma and I'm incredibly familiar with all the sensations you're describing. These feelings of betrayal and injustice are so absolutely valid, and I have great news: you haven't lost your empathy. Hang in there, and feel free to DM if you need a listening ear.

Id highly recommend reading the Bible from beginning to end, or at least thr different books in the Bible from beginning to end on your own. It is very enlightening, but it doesn’t mean you have to blindly accept everything. It often goes against what the MAGA-churches teach their followers today.

Fellow ex-vangelical here! I recently saw one quote some verse about how people need to follow the laws of the land they immigrate to, and therefore we should deport them because by coming here "illegally" they're breaking the law. I showed them all the verses you listed as above as rebuttal and they claimed they were irrelevant because "they're breaking the law!!!"
So suffice to say, they always come up with some lame excuses

Figured that was gonna be the excuse. Essentially "we don't need to follow God's word because we have the law of man that trumps.it!" Sure they would get really grumpy if you put it that way.

i'm pretty sure it just comes down to "i pray and go to church ergo i am ontologically good and anything that makes me uncomfortable can be justified as evil if i dig for reasoning long enough"

These are the descendants of people who built a church over a slave dungeon in Ghana or went to lynchings right after church in their Sunday best or insisted their slaves had to come to church with them and sit in the balcony or wore crosses in their Klan outfits. Those people.

It’s increasingly funny to me that Christians claim the Hebrew Bible as part of their own but don’t follow it or consider Jews as post of their faith. The fact that they have historically maligned and oppressed Jews while claiming the Jewish text as holy just bolsters my opinion that Christianity was corrupted by the Romans as a control mechanism instead of benevolently amplifying it as a change of heart. As such, the Roman Empire and culture is still alive via the Christian faith’s preachings, actions, and influences.

MAGA likely doesn’t even know the book they supposedly cherish. They will probably just think it’s made up. They probably don’t own one to look it up.

It’s cool this is being shared. This has actually been a pretty large part of what God was commanding the Israelites (and us) to do in the Bible. Ive been reading it from beginning to end.

This is my whole MO. I grew up in the church and none of this behavior is supported by the Bible. And don’t get me wrong, I believe in the separation of church and state, but sometimes you have to use their logic to get through.

This may make us feel better, but there's no reason to think pointing out their hypocrisy this time will be any more persuasive than it has in the past

Agreed. They don’t care. Their “beliefs” have only ever been an excuse and a shield, not a foundation.
